THE CENTER'S MISSION IS TO BUILD A SAFER, STRONGER NEIGHBORHOOD AND COMMUNITY BY PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL, HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS. EVERY YEAR SILVER SPRING NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER, INC. ("SSNC") MAKES A TANGIBLE DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF THE 8,000 PEOPLE THE CENTER SERVES.

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION: 120 CHILDREN, AGES 6 WEEKS TO 12 YEARS, ATTENDED IN FY20. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES HIGH-QUALITY CARE AND EDUCATION FOR LOW-INCOME CHILDREN TO PREPARE THEM TO ENTER SCHOOL WITH AGE-APPROPRIATE SKILLS, AND OFFERS FAMILIES A SAFE AND CONVENIENT PROGRAM FOR THEIR CHILDREN WHILE THEY WORK OR ATTEND SCHOOL.YOUTH DEVELOPMENT: APPROXIMATELY 1,461 YOUTHS, AGES 6-18 YEARS, PARTICIPATED IN THE VARIOUS PROGRAMS. SSNC IS ONE OF THE FEW "SAFE PLACES" FOR AT-RISK KIDS IN NORTHWEST MILWAUKEE TO FIND ACADEMIC SUPPORT, RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES, AND STRONG ADULT ROLE MODELS AFTER SCHOOL AND DURING THE SUMMER. THE TRANSFORMING MILWAUKEE PROGRAM TRAINS UNEMPLOYED INDIVIDUALS WHO DO NOT QUALIFY FOR UNEMPLOYMENT, AND PLACES THEM IN SUBSIDIZED EMPLOYMENT, PREDOMINANTLY IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR, FOR A MAXIMUM OF SIX MONTHS. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES JOB SUPPORT AND COACHING. IN FY20, BETWEEN JULY 1, 2019 AND JUNE 30, 2020, 117 INDIVIDUALS WERE PLACED IN A SUBSIDIZED JOB.ADULT EDUCATION: 150 ADULTS, AGES 18-65+, WERE SERVED FROM JULY 1, 2019 THROUGH JUNE 30, 2020. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH WTCS AND MATC, SSNC PROVIDED INTENSIVE BASIC SKILL, GED PREPARATORY, AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER CLASSES FOR THE NORTHWEST MILWAUKEE COMMUNITY. FAMILY LITERACY, SOFT AND HARD EMPLOYMENT SKILLS, HEALTH LITERACY, FINANCIAL LITERACY, AND COMPUTER LITERACY WERE STRESSED.
