Organizations Filed Purposes: FOUNDED IN 1893, THE YOUNG WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION SOUTHEAST WISCONSIN (D/B/A YWCA SOUTHEAST WISCONSIN) IS A SOCIAL SECTOR SERVICE ORGANIZATION PROPELLED BY WOMEN (AND THEIR SUPPORTERS) OF DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS, AGES AND EXPERIENCES WHO ARE DEDICATED TO THE ELIMINATION OF RACISM AND THE EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN BY PROMOTING PEACE, JUSTICE, FREEDOM AND DIGNITY FOR ALL. NATIONWIDE, ALL YWCAS HAVE THREE PILLARS: ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT, RACIAL JUSTICE AND HEALTH & SAFETY. AT YWCA SEW, WE SEEK TO BUILD A HEALTHY, VIBRANT REGION SO OUR HEALTH & SAFETY PERSPECTIVE IS SHAPED BY A SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH LENS. THAT LENS GUIDES OUR COMMUNITY COLLABORATIONS AND SHAPES THE DELIVERY OF OUR ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT AND RACIAL JUSTICE PROGRAMS, WHICH ADDRESS ROOT CAUSES OF SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH.

THROUGH A SUBCONTRACT WITH A DIRECT PROVIDER OF SERVICES TO THE STATE OF WISCONSIN'S W-2 PROGRAM, YWCA SEW PROVIDED COMPASSIONATE, PERSONALIZED CASE MANAGEMENT SUPPORT TO OVER 1,500 INDIVIDUALS LIVING IN POVERTY AND SEEKING EMPLOYMENT. THAT CASE MANAGEMENT RANGED IN INTENSITY AND TIME COMMITMENT BASED ON THE NEEDS OF EACH CLIENT AND THE SIGNIFICANT AND SYSTEMIC BARRIERS TO EMPLOYMENT THAT THE OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS EXPERIENCED. THE SUBCONTRACT FOR THESE SERVICES WAS COMPLETED IN OCTOBER 2019.

ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMMING AT YWCA SOUTHEAST WISCONSIN FOCUSES ON REMOVING FUNDAMENTAL BARRIERS TO SELF SUFFICIENCY AND ECONOMIC MOBILITY, WHICH IN TURN ARE FOUNDATIONS FOR THE SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH. THROUGH INTEGRATED SERVICES, WE PROVIDE PERSONAL FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT COACHING, JOB READINESS PREPARATION AND A COMMUNITY JOB CENTER; AND ADULT EDUCATION (GED PREPARATION AND AN APPROVED GED TESTING CENTER, A HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY DIPLOMA (HSED) PROGRAM, AND TUTORING/WRAP AROUND SUPPORT). THIS YEAR, OVER 12,500 INTEGRATED SERVICES WERE PROVIDED FROM JOB SEARCH ASSISTANCE/GUIDANCE TO FINANCIAL SKILLS BUILDING, WHICH INCLUDED OVER 1,300 WOMEN WHO RECEIVED APPAREL "SUITINGS- AND/OR INTERVIEW PREPARATION AT OUR RACINE "DRESS FOR SUCCESS" AFFILIATE OR OUR WOMEN'S SPECIALTY BOUTIQUE IN MILWAUKEE. 157 ADULTS SECURED THEIR HSED IN 2019 (WITH 20+ IN PROCESS) AND NEARLY 90% OF ADULT ED STUDENTS (WHO ARE PARENTS) REPORTED MORE CONFIDENTLY HELPING THEIR CHILDREN WITH HOMEWORK SINCE ENROLLING AT YWCA SEW.

OUR RACIAL JUSTICE PROGRAMMING CONTINUED SIGNIFICANT EXPANSION IN 2019. OVER 5,100 PEOPLE FROM SOUTHEAST WISCONSIN PARTICIPATED IN VARIED PROGRAMS FROM WORKSHOPS TO DEEP-DIVE COURSES, FROM EMPLOYER CONSULTATIONS TO COMMUNITY-BASED BOOK DISCUSSIONS. ALL UNLEARNING RACISM: TOOLS FOR ACTION COURSES (45 POTENTIAL STUDENTS; 2 SECTIONS OFFERED SPRING, SUMMER AND FALL) HAD WAITLISTS, AND INCREASINGLY EMPLOYERS SENT COHORTS OF STUDENTS. YWCA SEW'S BRIDGES TO WORK INITIATIVE CONTINUED ITS INDUSTRY-FOCUSED OUTREACH, STRENGTHENING AND BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS IN HEALTHCARE, HOSPITALITY, FINANCE/IT AND MANUFACTURING. RACIAL JUSTICE CONSULTING VARIED FROM POLICY AND PRACTICE REVIEW TO CUSTOMIZED HR WORK WITH AREA EMPLOYERS AND EDUCATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS. PROGRAM EVENTS (STAND AGAINST RACISM IN APRIL AND AN EVENING TO PROMOTE RACIAL JUSTICE IN DECEMBER) HAD OVER 700 PARTICIPANTS, NUMBERS THAT GROW EACH YEAR.
