Organizations Filed Purposes:
1) ASSIST LOW-INCOME FAMILIES TO OBTAIN ADEQUATE, SAFE SANITARY HOUSING; (2) HELP LOW-INCOME HOUSEHOLDS ACQUIRE APPROPRIATE WATER AND WASTEWATER SERVICES; 3) ENABLE SMALL COMMUNITIES AND LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS TO MORE EFFECTIVELY ADDRESS THE NEEDS OF THOSE WITH SUBSTANDARD SHELTER; 4) DEMONSTRATE NEW SERVICES AND NEW APPROACHES TO ADDRESS RURAL HOUSING PROBLEMS; AND 5) ALERT THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTORS ABOUT THE HOUSING, WATER AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT NEEDS OF LOW-INCOME RURAL RESIDENTS.
THE FOUNDATION FOR RURAL HOUSING HAS STAYED TRUE TO ITS FIVE BROAD MISSION STATEMENTS IN HARD ECONOMIC TIMES. THE CRITICAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM HAS FOCUSED ON THE FIRST MISSION OF ASSISTING VERY LOW-INCOME HOUSEHOLDS TO SIMPLY KEEP A ROOF OVER THEIR HEADS. THE ORGANIZATION HAS BEEN FURTHERING THE SECOND AND FIFTH MISSIONS BY ASSISTING HOUSEHOLDS WITH WATER NEEDS AND BY ALERTING AND COORDINATING WITH OTHERS TO ADDRESS FUTURE WATER NEEDS. APPROXIMATELY 90% OF OUR WORK IS AIMED AT PREVENTING HOMELESSNESS AND ABOUT 10% OF OUR WORK INVOLVES COORDINATING AND FUNDING HOME REPAIRS FOR SENIORS.
IN 2019, THE CRITICAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM RECEIVED OVER 2500 REQUESTS. THE PROGRAM PROVIDED $283,256 IN DIRECT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO PREVENT HOMELESSNESS. THIS WAS PAID ON BEHALF OF 1448 INDIVIDUALS OR 743 HOUSEHOLDS. THIS INCLUDED HELP WITH FIRST TIME SECURITY DEPOSITS TO MOVE INTO AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR 472 SECURITY DEPOSITS, 178 HOUSEHOLDS RECEIVED HELP WITH DELINQUENT RENT TO AVOID AN EVICTION NOTICE, 16 HOUSEHOLDS RECEIVED HELP WITH PAST DUE MORTGAGE PAYMENTS, 28 HOUSEHOLDS RECEIVED HELP WITH UTILITY EXPENSES AND 16 HOUSEHOLDS RECEIVED HELP WITH PAST DUE PROPERTY TAXES TO AVOID A TAX LEIN BEING PLACED ON THE PROPERTY. ANOTHER 33 INDIVIDUALS RECEIVED MISCELLANEOUS GRANTS TO ASSIST WITH OTHER HOUSEHOLD NEEDS SUCH AS HOME REPAIRS.
