OPERATING THE PORT EXPLOREUM IN THE HISTORIC HENRY AND HILL BUILDING, BUILT IN 1907. THE EXPLOREUM CREATES OPPORTUNITIES FOR INSPIRATIONAL DISCOVERY AND JOYFUL LEARNING THROUGH HANDS-ON EXPLORATION OF THE RICH HISTORY OF THE PORT WASHINGTON, WISCONSIN AREA. USING A VARIETY OF METHODS OF STORY-TELLING, THE EXPLOREUM CONNECTS VISITORS WITH THE PAST WHILE RELATING THAT HISTORY WITH TODAY'S PORT WASHINGTON.
ONGOING RESTORATION OF HISTORIC 1860 PORT WASHINGTON LIGHT STATION. TOURS ARE GIVEN TO SCHOOL AGE GROUPS AND GENERAL PUBLIC, SERVING APPROXIMATELY 2,000 VISITORS PER YEAR. THE LIGHT STATION IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC ON FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY FROM MAY THROUGH OCTOBER, AND STAFFED BY VOLUNTEERS. IN ADDITION, SCHEDULED TOURS ARE CONDUCTED THROUGHOUT THE WEEK. A PUBLIC KIOSK PROVIDING INFORMATION ABOUT PORT WASHINGTON'S NAVIGATIONAL LIGHTS WAS COMPLETED WITH THE AID OF AN EAGLE SCOUT.
ACQUISITION AND PRESERVATION OF ARTIFACTS AND ARCHIVAL MATERIAL GERMANE TO THE AREA SURROUNDING AND INCLUDING PORT WASHINGTON, WI. DISSEMINATION OF HISTORICAL INFORMATION TO STUDENTS, SCHOOLS, ORGANIZATIONS, AND GENERAL PUBLIC (500 + SERVED). THE RESOURCE CENTER IS A NEWLY RENOVATED 1852 HISTORIC BUILDING IN DOWNTOWN PORT WASHINGTON ACQUIRED AND PLACED IN SERVICE EARLY 2013. THE CENTER CONTAINS AN ARCHIVE AREA WHERE VOLUNTEERS CATALOG, MAINTAIN, AND ORGANIZE ARCHIVES SO THAT THEY ARE ACCESSIBLE TO THE PUBLIC.
