Code: 611610 Griffon Lessons and Outreach: Midsummer's Music of Door County, the Fine Arts Institute at East High in Green Bay, and St. Norbert College in De Pere launched a ground-breaking project in 2018 to enhance student learning and academic achievement through increased exposure to--and participation in--music. The Griffon String Quartet members currently work with children in northeast WI via the Einstein Series, a highly interactive program for school-age children. Student participate in private or group lessons or educational outreach programs. The quartet visits schools and classrooms to perform and discuss string quartet music, relating it specifically to relevant topics in their studies and their lives. The Quartet's B Double Sharp program presents mini concerts for the aging or disabled as well as their caregivers. Targeting people with Alzheimer's and dementia, in association with the Door County Medical Center and Scandia Village, the quartet creates a welcoming atmosphere where people can share their observations and feelings about the journey of aging and memory loss. Additional community-embedded programs are all-inclusive for families. The community performances strengthen the musical infrastructure by demystifying chamber music and creating an experiential bridge from short presentations to full classical concerts.
