Organizations Filed Purposes: In partnership with the community, to provide people with disabilities opportunities to achieve the highest level of independence. Catholic Charities Bureau Affiliates are organized to maintain, operate and conduct; directly or indirectly; as well as to assist and coordinate activities and Social Services in accordance with the charitable Works and traditions of the Roman Catholic Church. Works are carried out in accordance with Catholic Social teachings.

Black River Industries (BRI) provides vocational and residential training and support services, supported employment, as well as day services/community integration program, to people with disabilities, the elderly, and those with chronic mental illness. BRI provides the largest countywide public transportation system in Taylor County to individuals with disabilities and senior citizens. Our Food Services Industries component provides hot meals to seniors at congregate sites as well as the Meals-On-Wheels program, and individuals at the BRI facility.

Black River Industries served 102 persons with disabilities in 2019 under five program areas; Vocational services, Day Services/Community Integration, Independent living, Residential, Supported employment, and Transportation. We employ an average of 50 staff members to assist in providing opportunities. Our services are mainly provided to Taylor and Price County Residents, however several individuals from surrounding counties also partake in our services. 65 of these individuals used our transportation services to access work and personal needs services. 36 people received supported employment services in the form of job placement, coaching and/or ongoing support. The Day Services/Community Integration program provided caregiving and meaningful community programming to 21 individuals. 30 individuals received in home services to promote independence and safe living skills.

In 2019, BRI's Production Department provided diverse employment opportunities to 49 persons with disabilities. Vocational opportunities in the areas of: light assembly, food packaging, general packaging, collating, confidential document shredding, and commercial sewing were offered to persons with disabilities and others in the community. In addition, custodial and lawn care services were provided to two National Guard armories for the Dept. of Military Affairs, and four waysides within the county for the Wisconsin Dept. of Transportation (DOT). 83,000 pounds of confidential documents were shredded. BRI also operated a commercial lawn care service for private residence and local businesses. BRI's external work contracts employed 6 persons with disabilities.

BRI's Food Services Industries component has been providing meals for seniors and children since 1981. Food Services provides commercial kitchen experience for individuals with disabilities in preparation for community employment. The majority of meals were provided under contract with the Taylor County Commission on Aging at two Senior Centers in the county, as well as the Meals-on-Wheels Program. In addition, our passenger routes for the elderly and persons with disabilities routinely deliver meals to many homebound seniors in outlying areas who would not otherwise be able to access the congregate meal sites. In 2019, BRI prepared and delivered approximately 13,900 meals to over 250 seniors. We provided approximately 1,200 catered meals to local businesses and civic organizations; and over 4,000 hot lunches to clients and staff at BRI throughout the year. BRI also catered meals to over 400 seniors for the annual Senior Health and Wellness Fair. In addition, BRI expanded their kitchen to include bakery sales in our gift store. In 2019 over 6,000 items were sold including: cupcakes, muffins, and cookies.
