Educate and train students with intellectual and developmental disabilities
Shepherds College is the country's leading, fully-accredited post-secondary education program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The college equips students to reach Appropriate Independence through the development of vocational, social and life skills. As a faith-based school, spiritual growth is encouraged through weekly chapel meetings, Bible studies, attendance at local churches, and student-led prayer groups. The school pursues excellence in all its operations, evidenced by its exceptional faculty and staff, the new student housing facilities, customized curriculum, and its investment in impacting the disability community through strategic leadership training. Operations are funded primarily from payment for tuition fees with contributions from Shepherds Foundation.
Shepherds' core values center around the themes of Honoring God and Valuing People. Programming for clients as well as care for the staff is filtered around these values. 4 individuals reside near Shepherds and enjoy year-round community supportive care in their homes. Core values are considered in all that is offered, which includes training in living skills, as well as spiritual and social enrichment. Shepherds has a core philosophy of Appropriate Independence. Bible training, prayer and spiritual values are stressed. Program participants attend Sunday services and Wednesday evening church services on or off campus. These services offer Compassionate Christian Care for the Intellectually Disabled. (continued on Schedule O)The ministry is Bible-based and Christ-centered. Operations are primarily funded by contributions from Shepherds Foundation as the funding from family, guardian and third party sources is insufficient to cover the expenses of this ministry. During the year ended June 30, 2020, Shepherds discontinued the Catalyst Group Home program. This decision was made as part of a strategic direction to focus Shepherd resources on Shepherds College and build a sustainable future. The Catalyst Group Home program included revenue of $88,735 and expenses of $67,870 for a gain on discontinued operations of $20,865.
