TO LEAD THE FIGHT TO CURE AND TREAT ALS THROUGH GLOBAL, CUTTING-EDGE RESEARCH, AND TO EMPOWER PEOPLE LIVING WITH ALS IN WISCONSIN, AND THEIR FAMILIES, TO LIVE FULLER LIVES BY PROVIDING THEM WITH COMPASSIONATE CARE AND SUPPORT.
TO DISCOVER TREATMENTS AND A CURE FOR ALS, AND TO SERVE, ADVOCATE FOR, AND EMPOWER PEOPLE AFFECTED BY ALS TO LIVE THEIR LIVES TO THE FULLEST
THE CHAPTER'S CARE SERVICES STAFF PROVIDES SERVICES TO PEOPLE LIVING WITH ALS, THEIR FAMILIES AND THEIR CAREGIVERS, HELPING THEM LEARN ABOUT THE DISEASE, LOCATE RESOURCES IN THE COMMUNITY AND COPE WITH THE CHANGES OCCURRING IN THEIR LIVES. DURING THE YEAR ENDING JANUARY 31, 2020, THE CHAPTER SERVED OVER 400 PEOPLE LIVING WITH ALS IN WISCONSIN. THE FOLLOWING CARE SERVICES PROGRAMS AND SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE TO ASSIST INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES TO MEET THE DAILY CHALLENGES OF ALS AT NO COST: SUPPORT GROUPS; SERVICES AT ALS CERTIFIED TREATMENT CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE AT FROEDTERT HOSPITAL/MEDICAL COLLEGE OF WISCONSIN AND THE CLEMENT J. ZABLOCKI MILWAUKEE VA MEDICAL CENTER; SERVICES AT UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL & CLINICS MDA ALS CLINIC IN MADISON; SERVICES AT A DEVELOPING ALS MULTIDISCIPLINARY CLINIC IN THE NEUROSCIENCES CENTER AT GUNDERSEN HEALTH SYSTEM IN LA CROSSE; EQUIPMENT LOAN PROGRAM; AUGMENTATIVE COMMUNICATION PROGRAM; BRIAN TRINASTIC GRANT PROGRAM TO PROVIDE FINANCIAL RELIEF THROUGH REIMBURSEMENT; CARE AND RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM; CARE PROGRAM FOR YOUNG CAREGIVERS.
OUR CHAPTER WORKS WITH 39 OTHER CHAPTER'S ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO SUPPORT GLOBAL RESEARCH AND OUR EFFORTS ARE FOCUSED TOWARDS A SINGLE VISION OF A WORLD WITHOUT ALS. OUR CHAPTER DIRECTS FUNDS EACH YEAR TOWARDS SOME OF THE MOST PROMISING ALS RESEARCH PROJECTS. THESE PROJECTS ARE ALL RELATED TO FINDING THE CAUSE, A TREATMENT AND A CURE FOR ALS. THE ALS ASSOCIATION IS THE ONLY ORGANIZATION DEDICATED SOLELY TO THE FIGHT AGAINST ALS. THE ORGANIZATION AS A WHOLE FUNDS AGGRESSIVE, CUTTING-EDGE RESEARCH USING THE NEWEST TECHNIQUES WHILE FOSTERING COLLABORATIVE INITIATIVES AMONG GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, THE PRIVATE SECTOR AND SCIENTISTS WHO ARE INVESTED IN TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH.
OUR CHAPTER WORKS TO PROMOTE PUBLIC AWARENESS AND EDUCATION THROUGH ADVOCACY ACTIVITIES AT A STATE AND NATIONAL LEVEL. WE PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING RESOURCES TO PATIENTS AND FAMILIES THROUGHOUT WISCONSIN: BI-MONTHLY PATIENT INFORMATION AND UPDATES; A LENDING LIBRARY OF VARIOUS RESOURCES; BOOKS AND EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG CAREGIVERS; INFORMATION FOR NEWLY DIAGNOSED PATIENTS; INFORMATION ON VA BENEFITS. OUR CHAPTER CONDUCTS EVENTS TO GENERATE GENERAL PUBLIC AWARENESS AND USES TOOLS TO EXPAND THE AWARENESS THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA AND THE INTERNET. THE CHAPTER PARTICIPATES IN ANNUAL CONFERENCES IN WASHINGTON D.C. TO ADVANCE PUBLIC POLICIES THAT WILL BENEFIT PEOPLE LIVING WITH ALS AND THEIR FAMILIES.
