OUR RESULTS-BASED STUDENT PROGRAMS TARGET THE MOST PERTINENT HEALTH RISKS OUR CHILDREN FACE. PROGRAMS ARE PRESENTED BY SPECIALLY-TRAINED HEALTH EDUCATORS WHO ARE MASTERS OF THE TOPICS THEY TEACH AND PROS AT INTERACTING WITH STUDENTS. WRAPAROUND PROGRAMS AND RESOURCES FOR TEACHERS AND PARENTS ENSURE THEY HAVE THE TOOLS TO HELP KEEP THE CHILDREN IN THEIR LIVES HEALTHY AND SAFE. MORE THAN 35 PREVENTIVE HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAMS AND AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS FOR STUDENTS IN PRE-K THROUGH 12 IN CHARACTER EDUCATION, DRUG PREVENTION, GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT, HYGIENE, (CONT.)
THE WELLER CENTER'S MISSION IS TO MEASURABLY IMPROVE CHILDREN'S LIVES BY GIVING THEM, AND THE ADULTS IN THEIR LIVES, THE TOOLS THEY NEED TO MAKE INFORMED AND HEALTHY LIFE CHOICES.
THE WELLER CENTER VALUES PROGRAM EVALUATION AND CONTINUOUS QUALITY IMPROVEMENT. USING PRE- AND POST-TESTS, WE EVALUATE ALL OF OUR PROGRAMS BY MEASURING PARTICIPANTS' CHANGE IN KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDES, AND INTENT TO CHANGE BEHAVIOR BASED ON TOPIC-SPECIFIC GOALS AND OBJECTIVES. EVALUATION DATA FROM 2015-16 INDICATES THAT STUDENTS SHOWED AN AVERAGE OVERALL SCORE INCREASE OF 27% FROM PRE- TO POST-TEST IN OUR MOST IN-DEMAND PROGRAMS. A SAMPLE OF STUDENTS PARTICIPATES IN OUR PRE- AND POST-PROGRAM TESTING USING OUR ANONYMOUS WIRELESS AUDIENCE RESPONSE SYSTEM. WE GAUGE THEIR BASE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE PRIOR TO PROGRAM EXPOSURE AS WELL AS INCREASES (OR DECREASES) IN KNOWLEDGE AT THE CONCLUSION. THIS DATA IS CRITICAL TO ENSURING THAT OUR PROGRAMS ARE CURRENT AND APPLICABLE TO OUR TARGET AUDIENCES. SCHOOL DISTRICT ADMINISTRATORS CAN ALSO USE DATA TO CREATE OR IMPLEMENT SCHOOL POLICIES, INFORM PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT STAFF, CREATE DISTRICT-WIDE PROGRAMMING OR INITIATIVES, SEEK ADDITIONAL GRANT FUNDING, AND GARNER SUPPORT FOR FUTURE SURVEYS.TEACHERS ALSO EVALUATE THE COMPETENCY AND PROFESSIONALISM OF OUR HEALT EDUCATION STAFF AS WELL AS THE RELEVANCY OF OUR PROGRAMMING. SUMMARY DATA FROM 106 TEACHER SURVEYS COLLECTED DURING THE 2015-16 SCHOOL YEAR SHOWS THAT 84 PERCET OF THE TIME TEACHERS STRONGLY AGREED THAT PROGRAMMING WAS DELIVERED BY A WELL-PREPARED AND KNOWLEDGEABLE INSTRUCTOR, THAT PROGRAMMING WAS ALIGNED WITH THE SCHOOL CURRICULUM AND THAT THE OBJECTIVES WERE CLEAR. WE ALSO ASK TEACHERS TO IDENTIFY WHAT THEY FEEL WERE THE GREATEST STRENGTHS AS WELL AS AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT FOR THE PROGRAM. THE WELLER CENTERS USES THIS INFORMATION TO CREATE PROGRAMS THAT ARE RELEVANT AND MEET THE NEEDS OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICTS WE SERVE. A COMBINED 55 PERCENT OF TEACHERS REPORTED THAT THE GREATEST STRENTH OF THE PROGRAM WAS THE ACCURATE INFORMATION PRESENTED AND THE WELLER CENTER HEALTH EDUCATOR. ON AVERAGE, MOST OF THE TEACHERS REPORTED THAT THEY DID NOT FEEL THERE WERE ANY CHANGES THAT NEEDED TO BE MADE TO THE PROGRAM. OTHER COMMON SUGGESTIONS ARE OFTEN OUTLIERS WHICH THE WELLER CENTER CANNOT CONTROL, SUCH AS HAVING THE PROGRAM IN A CLASSROOM VERSUS THE AUDITORIUM, OR TO HAVE LONGER CLASS SESSIONS. ALL OF THIS FEEDBACK IS VALUABLE TO ENSURE THAT WELLER PROVIDES THE BEST PROGRAMS POSSIBLE.
