Organizations Filed Purposes: CIVIC THEATRE OF ALLENTOWN IS DEDICATED TO PROVIDING HIGH-QUALITY PERFORMING ARTS TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN THE LEHIGH VALLEY COMMUNITY. CIVIC CARRIES OUT ITS MISSION BY PRESENTING AFFORDABLE THEATRE, MUSIC AND ART-HOUSE CINEMA, AND BY CREATING OPPORTUNITIES FOR ADULTS AND YOUTH IN THE COMMUNITY TO LEARN AND APPLY THE THEATRE ARTS, WORKING WITH PROFESSIONALS AS WELL AS EACH OTHER. IN ADDITION, WORKSHOPS, CLASSES, PERFORMANCES AND AN OUTREACH PROGRAM SUPPORT THE DEVELOPMENT OF YOUNG PEOPLE.

CIVIC'S LIVE THEATRE PROGRAM - INCLUDES FOUR PROFESSIONAL MAINSTAGE PRODUCTIONS PER YEAR AND AN ANNUAL THEATRE SCHOOL PRODUCTION STAGED IN THE HISTORIC 500-SEAT NINETEENTH STREET THEATRE. IN ADDITION, MORE INTIMATE PRODUCTIONS, PLAYWRIGHT EVENTS, AND READINGS ARE STAGED IN THE ADJACENT 92 -SEAT THEATRE 514. PRODUCTIONS RANGE FROM LITERATURE-BASED PRODUCTIONS, PROVOCATIVE DRAMAS, BROADWAY MUSICALS, LESSER-KNOWN OFF-BROADWAY PIECES AND NEW WORKS BY LOCAL PLAYWRIGHTS. PLAYWRIGHT EVENTS AND READINGS COMPLIMENT PRODUCTIONS. LAST YEAR, MORE THAN 50 PUBLIC PERFORMANCES WERE MOUNTED AND 14,000 TICKETS SOLD.

CIVIC'S THEATRE EDUCATION PROGRAM- INCLUDES ITS THEATRE SCHOOL, WHICH OFFERS THREE SESSIONS SPANNING PRESCHOOL THOUGH HIGH SCHOOL AND SERVES A TOTAL OF 300 STUDENTS THROUGH ON-SITE CLASSES EACH YEAR. CIVIC ALSO CONDUCTS AN OUTREACH PROGRAM TO CHILDREN AT ACADEMIC RISK THROUGH LOCAL SCHOOLS, LIBRARIES AND YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS WITH ITS ARTS-INFUSED LITERACY PROMOTION PROGRAM, READING WITH CAT IN THE HAT AND FRIENDS. AN INTERACTIVE DRAMATIC READING BY ACTOR-FACILITATOR IN COSTUME IS FOLLOWED UP BY CLASS ACTIVITES THAT PROMOTE READING AS A LIFETIME HABIT. MORE THAN 80 CHILDREN'S ROLES ARE OFFERED THOUGH OPEN AUDITIONS TO THE ANNUAL PRODUCTION OF A CHRISTMAS CAROL, AN INTERGENERATIONAL PRODUCTION. CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O SCHOOL MATINEES ARE OFFERED TO SCHOOLS AT DEEPLY DISCOUNTED TICKET PRICES. MORE THAN 3,000 CHILDREN ATTENDED WITH THEIR CLASS LAST YEAR. ADDITIONALLY, FREE TICKETS ARE DISTRIBUTED TO LOCAL YOUTH ORGANIZATIONS WHICH HAVE AN INTEREST IN ATTENDING THEATRE PRODUCTIONS. THROUGH THESE PROGRAMS AND FAMILY-FRIENDLY MAINSTAGE PRODUCTIONS, CIVIC SERVES AN AUDIENCE OF MORE THAN 6,000 STUDENTS EACH YEAR.

CIVIC FILM- OFFERS SCREENINGS OF 60 AMERICAN INDEPENDENT, FOREIGN AND DOCUMENTARY FILMS EACH YEAR. THESE NONCOMMERCIAL FILMS EXPLORE NEW ARTISTIC TERRITORY OUTSIDE OF CLASSICAL HOLLYWOOD NARRATIVE AND ENGAGE VIEWERS IN THE UNDERSTANDING OF SOCIETAL ISSUES, THE PERSONAL STRUGGLES AND STRENGTHS OF ORDINARY PEOPLE, AND MANY THAT OFFER INSIGHT INTO THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE. MORE THAN 1,200 SCREENINGS LAST YEAR DREW 23,000 PEOPLE.
