Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE ARC OF LEHIGH AND NORTHAMPTON COUNTIES (THE ARC) SUPPORTS MORE THAN 1,500 LOCAL INDIVIDUALS WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES (I/DD) AND FAMILIES EACH YEAR. THE ARC PROVIDES A VARIETY OF QUALITY PROGRAMS AND SERVICES TO ASSIST INDIVIDUALS WITH I/DD AND THEIR FAMILIES TO LIVE FULL AND PRODUCTIVE LIVES IN THEIR COMMUNITY. THE ARC OF LEHIGH AND NORTHAMPTON COUNTIES IS AFFILIATED WITH THE ARC OF PENNSYLVANIA, THE ARC OF THE UNITED STATES AND LOCAL CHAPTERS OF THE ARC ACROSS PENNSYLVANIA.
TO ADVOCATE, EDUCATE AND PROVIDE SERVICES AND SUPPORTS FOR PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES AND THEIR FAMILIES.
SPARC:THE SPARC PROGRAM IS A STATE-LICENSED ADULT SUPPORT PROGRAM THAT SERVES INDIVIDUALS WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES (IDD) IN LEHIGH AND NORTHAMPTON COUNTIES WITH BOTH COMMUNITY AND FACILITY-BASED DAY SERVICES. THE PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR PEOPLE WITH IDD TO EXPLORE INTERESTS, DEVELOP SKILLS, AND INTERACT WITH THEIR COMMUNITIES IN A SUPPORTIVE, NONCOMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT. THE NEEDS OF EACH PERSON ARE MET THROUGH A PERSON-CENTERED APPROACH TO DEVELOP DAILY LIVING, COMMUNICATION, SOCIALIZATION, HABILITATION, AND COMMUNITY INTEGRATION SKILLS. PARTICIPANTS OF THE PROGRAM SELECT FROM A VARIETY OF FACILITY-BASED OR COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES BASED ON THEIR PERSONAL CHOICE. THE SPARC PROGRAM IS PARTNERED WITH MORE THAN 20 ORGANIZATIONS AND BUSINESSES THROUGHOUT THE LEHIGH VALLEY THAT AFFORD ITS PARTICIPANTS TO BE ENGAGED IN ACTIVITIES DIRECTED TOWARDS LIFE SKILLS AND VARIOUS THERAPY OUTLETS INCLUDING PET AND MUSIC THERAPIES.
AGENCY WITH CHOICE:THE AGENCY WITH CHOICE (AWC) PROGRAM IS A WAIVER-FUNDED, SELF-DIRECTED PERSONAL CARE SERVICE SUPPORTING INDIVIDUALS WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES (IDD) IN LEHIGH AND NORTHAMPTON COUNTIES. THE AWC MODEL ALLOWS AN INDIVIDUAL OR THE SURROGATE OF THEIR CHOOSING TO HIRE PERSONS OF THEIR CHOICE TO SUPPORT THEM AS NEEDED WITHIN THE INDIVIDUAL'S HOME AND COMMUNITY. THE ARC OF LEHIGH AND NORTHAMPTON COUNTIES ACTS AS A CO-EMPLOYER FOR PAYROLL, TAXES, AND WORKER'S COMPENSATION PURPOSES, HOWEVER, THE DELIVERY OF PERSONAL CARE SERVICES IS MANAGED AND SUPERVISED BY THE INDIVIDUAL AND/OR THEIR DESIGNATED SURROGATE. THE ARC'S AGENCY WITH CHOICE PROGRAM IS BASED ON THE PHILOSOPHY OF SELF-DETERMINATION AND EMPOWERS PERSONS WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES (I/DD) TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF THEIR LIVES. PROVIDING INDIVIDUALS WITH THE OPPORTUNITY FOR CHOICE AND CONTROL OVER THEIR SERVICES AND SUPPORTS ACKNOWLEDGES THAT THEY ARE THE BEST JUDGES OF THEIR OWN NEEDS AND HOW THOSE NEEDS SHOULD BE MET. THIS INCLUDES THE ABILITY TO: CHOOSE AND CONTROL THE SERVICES THEY RECEIVE; RECEIVE ASSISTANCE AND TRAINING ON AN AS-NEEDED BASIS FROM THE ARC TO MANAGE THEIR OWN SUPPORT SERVICE PROFESSIONALS.
ADVOCACY:THE ARC OF LEHIGH & NORTHAMPTON COUNTIES IS ONE OF THE FEW AGENCIES THAT PROVIDES FREE RESOURCE COORDINATION, TRAININGS, AND ONE-TO-ONE ADVOCACY SUPPORT TO OUR COMMUNITY. OUR ADVOCACY DEPARTMENT PROVIDES RESOURCE COORDINATION BY OFFERING DISABILITY-RELATED RESOURCES, REFERRALS, AND TRAININGS ON A WIDE VARIETY OF TOPICS TO INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES, AND PROFESSIONALS. INDIVIDUALS CAN GAIN INFORMATION THROUGH A COMBINATION OF METHODS, INCLUDING OUR ON-LINE SUBMISSION FORM, INTAKE PHONE LINE, AND DIRECT PHONE/EMAIL TO THE ARC. OUR ADVOCACY DEPARTMENT ALSO OFFERS FREE ONE-TO-ONE ADVOCACY SUPPORT BY ASSIGNING A KNOWLEDGEABLE ADVOCATE TO PROVIDE INDIVIDUAL GUIDANCE IN ADDRESSING COMPLEX CHALLENGES. WHILE OUR RESOURCE COORDINATION & TRAININGS MAY BE ACCESSED BY ANY INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP, OUR ONE-TO-ONE ADVOCACY SUPPORT IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO ELIGIBLE INDIVIDUALS WITH A DIAGNOSIS OF AN INTELLECTUAL AND/OR DEVELOPMENT DISABILITY (IDD) AND WHO ARE BASED IN LEHIGH OR NORTHAMPTON COUNTIES.
