The mission of Via Events, Inc. is to raise funds to advance Via of the Lehigh Valley and the services it provides for people with disabilities. Via Events promotes the inclusion of people with disabilities into a productive community life, emphasizing health and wellness opportunities.Via of the Lehigh Valley is a non-profit agency that provides services for children and adults with disabilities in Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon, Monroe, Pike, Bucks and Berks counties. Operating since 1952, Via serves more than 1,200 people every year.Early Intervention therapists offer physical, occupational and speech therapy to children to advance competencies and reach developmental milestones. Programs for young adults focus on networking with peers and gaining vocational skills in preparation for life after graduation. Services for adults help them to prepare for, attain and retain employment to promote independence. Our staff help individuals of all ages gain life skills, develop friendships and learn how to take advantage of all the community has to offer. In addition to providing a variety of high-quality programs, Via also advocates for inclusion and equal access to community activities.Via Thrift StoresVia Events, Inc. operated two (2) Thrift Stores during the year ended June 30, 2020. Goods sold are donated by the public and converted to cash by sales to the public. Donated goods are also sold to a third party for cash who in turn sells the same items on the international clothing market. Via Events, Inc. uses the cash receipts from these sales (post expense) to further its mission to advance Via of the Lehigh Valley and the services it provides for people with disabilities. People look for value when they shop and want things that are worthwhile at a good price. Via Thrift Stores are value centers in every sense, offering great value to customers while supporting a great cause. When people shop or donate to Via Thrift Stores, they help children and adults with disabilities living in the community. Via Thrift Stores accept donations of clothing, furniture, housewares, electronics, appliances, building materials and more. Drop off locations are located throughout the community. St. Luke's University Health Network Marathon for ViaThe St. Luke's University Health Network Marathon for Via raises funds to support Via of the Lehigh Valley's programs for children and adults with disabilities and is a regional marathon run through Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton, giving the Lehigh Valley the opportunity to attract participants and supporters from the entire northeast. More than 5,500 walkers and runners participate in the Via Marathon supported by 600 volunteers. The 26.2 mile course starts at J.B. Crum Stadium in the City of Allentown and takes runners through the Lehigh Parkway to the Lehigh River Canal Towpath continuing through Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton.Via All-Star Basketball ClassicThe Via All-Star Basketball Classic is an elite sports event featuring the finest high school basketball talent in the greater Lehigh Valley. The event was started in 1976 by the Kiwanis Club of Allentown to promote community basketball in the Lehigh Valley, establish the Lehigh Valley High School Basketball Hall of Fame and raise money in support of LARC, now Via of the Lehigh Valley. Via All-Stars are selected from the 35 high schools in Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon and Monroe counties as well as Phillipsburg High School in New Jersey. In a typical year, the Via All-Star Classic begins with the Via All-Star Basketball Clinic - An Event for Kids with Special Needs and is staffed by Via All-Stars and members of the Hall of Fame. The Via All-Star Banquet recognizes members of the Via All-Star teams, Players of the Year, Teams of the Year, Scholar Athletes of the Year, and inducts members into the Lehigh Valley High School Basketball Hall of Fame. Via Super Saturday is the culmination of the Via All-Star Basketball Classic and features four games between the Via All-Star boys and girls teams. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic this year's event was virtual.
