MADLYN AND LEONARD ABRAMSON CENTER FOR JEWISH LIFE AND SUBSIDIARIES ("THE CENTER"), PREVIOUSLY PHILADELPHIA GERIATRIC CENTER, IS A COMPREHENSIVE PROVIDER OF HEALTHCARE TO SENIORS. THE CENTER OFFERS A COORDINATED SYSTEM OF HEALTHCARE AND SOCIAL SERVICES FOR THE ELDERLY AND THEIR FAMILIES. THROUGHOUT THE AGING CYCLE, OUR WIDE RANGE OF SERVICES PROVIDES A CONTINUUM OF CARE IN A VARIETY OF SETTINGS, INCLUDING THE COMMUNITY AND THE INDIVIDUAL'S OWN HOME. THE CENTER PRIDES ITSELF ON THE INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS IT OFFERS AND ITS MISSION TO PROVIDE HEALTHCARE SERVICES TO SENIORS REGARDLESS OF THEIR ABILITY TO PAY. THE CENTER OPERATES 46 PERSONAL CARE UNITS, 2 INDEPENDENT LIVING UNITS, 324 SKILLED LONG-TERM AND TRANSITIONAL CARE NURSING BEDS, AN ADULT DAYCARE CENTER, A RESEARCH FACILITY, HOSPICE CARE, HOME HEALTH CARE, AND COMMUNITY BASED COUNSELING SERVICES.LOCATED ON A SUBURBAN CAMPUS IN HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA., THE CENTER OFFERS A BROAD ARRAY OF LIFE-AFFIRMING CULTURAL, EDUCATIONAL, AND RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES WHICH HELP RESIDENTS REMAIN ENGAGED IN THE WORLD AROUND THEM. IN KEEPING WITH THE CENTER'S HISTORIC COMMITMENT TO SERVING THE ELDERLY OF LIMITED RESOURCES, 63 PERCENT OF THE MEN AND WOMEN RESIDING IN THE ABRAMSON RESIDENCE HAVE NO FINANCIAL MEANS AND RELY ON MEDICAL ASSISTANCE.SKILLED NURSING CARETHE 324-BED ABRAMSON RESIDENCE PROVIDES SKILLED NURSING CARE AND FEATURES ALL SINGLE-OCCUPANCY BEDROOMS, SMALL-SCALE RESIDENTIAL ENCLAVES, AND A RESIDENT-CENTERED MODEL OF CARE THAT NURTURES RESIDENTS' INDIVIDUAL, SPIRITUAL AND SOCIAL NEEDS. THE 324 BEDS INCLUDE 270 BEDS DEDICATED TO LONG-TERM CARE AND 54 BEDS THAT SERVE THE NEEDS OF PATIENTS WHO NEED POST-ACUTE REHABILITATION AFTER DISCHARGE FROM A HOSPITAL STAY BEFORE THE PATIENT IS READY TO RETURN HOME. A BROAD ARRAY OF LIFE-AFFIRMING ACTIVITIES HELP RESIDENTS REMAIN ENGAGED IN THE WORLD AROUND THEM. ABUNDANT GREENERY AND LIVE-IN PETS CONTRIBUTE TO THE HOMEY ATMOSPHERE. KOSHER FOOD, ALONG WITH AN ONSITE SYNAGOGUE, AND A BROAD ARRAY OF JEWISH CULTURAL PROGRAMS AND HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS, HELP TO CREATE A COMMUNITY WHERE OUR RESIDENTS FEEL AT HOME. IN FISCAL YEAR 2020, APPROXIMATELY 113,000 DAYS OF CARE WERE PROVIDED AT 95% OCCUPANCY. THE ABRAMSON CENTER CONTINUES ITS HISTORIC MISSION OF SERVING AS A SAFETY NET FOR ELDERLY JEWS NEEDING LONG-TERM CARE WHO ARE WITHOUT FINANCIAL MEANS. IN 2020, THE CENTER PROVIDED OVER 71,000 DAYS OF CARE FOR RESIDENTS WHO ARE ON MEDICAL ASSISTANCE (MEDICAID), INCLUDING MANY FROM DAY ONE OF CARE. HOWEVER, DECLINING MEDICAL ASSISTANCE REIMBURSEMENT DOES NOT COVER THE ACTUAL COST OF CARE, CAUSING THE CENTER TO STRUGGLE TO FILL AN EVER-INCREASING FUNDING GAP ON THE MEDICAID BEDS, WHICH IS NOW OVER $9.5 MILLION.RESIDENTIAL LIVING WITH PERSONAL CAREMILDRED SHORE INN PROVIDED APPROXIMATELY 16,400 DAYS OF CARE IN 48 SPACIOUS STUDIO AND ONE-BEDROOM PERSONAL CARE AND INDEPENDENT LIVING APARTMENTS. RESIDENTS ENJOYED A RANGE OF ACTIVITIES OFFERED MORNING THROUGH EVENING, MEALS, HELP WITH EVERYDAY TASKS SUCH AS DRESSING AND BATHING, WELLNESS CHECKS, AND MEDICATION MANAGEMENT. OUR COMMUNITY IS ONE OF ONLY A FEW IN THE REGION TO PROVIDE KOSHER FOOD PREPARED ON SITE, A SYNAGOGUE, AND A BROAD ARRAY OF JEWISH CULTURAL PROGRAMS AND HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS. RESIDENT CARE EXCEEDS THE STATE MANDATED REQUIREMENT. OUR BENEVOLENT CARE POLICY PROVIDES RENT SUBSIDIES TO RESIDENTS WHO HAVE OUTLIVED THEIR RESOURCES.HOSPICETHE ABRAMSON HOSPICE, LAUNCHED IN JANUARY 2008, IS A NONSECTARIAN PROGRAM SERVING SENIORS RESIDING ON THE CENTER'S CAMPUS AS WELL AS ADULTS LIVING IN THEIR OWN HOMES OR IN OTHER SENIOR COMMUNITIES, OR IN HOSPITALS. THE ABRAMSON HOSPICE SERVES PEOPLE WITH HIGH-QUALITY, MULTI-DISCIPLINARY HOSPICE SERVICES. WE ALSO PROVIDE BEREAVEMENT SERVICES TO THOSE IN NEED, EVEN IF THEY WERE NOT CLIENTS OF THE PROGRAM. AN IMPORTANT FEATURE THAT SETS THE ABRAMSON HOSPICE APART FROM OTHER HOSPICE PROGRAMS IS ITS MISSION TO PROVIDE SERVICES AND SPECIALLY TRAINED STAFF WHO ARE UNIQUELY INFORMED ABOUT AND SENSITIVE TO THE NEEDS OF JEWISH CLIENTS AND UNDERSTANDING OF JEWISH CULTURE, TRADITIONS, AND OBSERVANCES. HOME CAREABRAMSON HOME CARE WAS ESTABLISHED IN DECEMBER 2010 THROUGH THE ACQUSITION (ASSET PURCHASE) OF AN EXISTING HOME CARE AGENCY BASED IN ELKINS PARK, PA. ABOUT FOUR YEARS AGO, THE CENTER MOVED THE HOME CARE OFFICE FROM ELKINS PARK, PA TO JENKINTOWN, PA BUT THE OFFICE STILL HOSTS THE ADMINISTRATIVE ACTIVITIES OF THE HOME CARE LINE OF BUSINESS INCLUDING SCHEDULING AND BILLING. ABRAMSON HOME CARE IS A NONSECTARIAN PROGRAM SERVING SENIORS RESIDING IN THEIR OWN HOMES. ABRAMSON HOME CARE SERVES PEOPLE WITH HIGH-QUALITY CARE WITH A TEAM OF WELL-TRAINED STAFF INCLUDING REGISTERED NURSES (RN), LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSES (LPN), CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANTS (CNA), HOME HEALTH AIDES, PHYSICAL THERAPISTS, OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS, SPEECH THERAPISTS, SOCIAL WORKERS, DIETICIANS, HOMEMAKERS AND COMPANIONS. ABRAMSON HOME CARE OFFERS SERVICES TO MEDICARE PARTICIPANTS, MEDICAL ASSISTANCE PARTCIPANTS AND PRIVATE DUTY CARE. AN IMPORTANT FEATURE THAT DIFFERENTIATES ABRAMSON HOME CARE FROM OTHER HOME CARE AGENCIES IS ITS MISSION TO PROVIDE SERVICES AND SPECIALLY TRAINED STAFF WHO ARE UNIQUELY INFORMED ABOUT AND SENSITIVE TO THE NEEDS OF JEWISH CLIENTS AND UNDERSTANDING OF JEWISH CULTURE, TRADITIONS, AND OBSERVANCES. HOWEVER, ABRAMSON HOME CARE HONORS THE RELIGIOUS PREFERENCES OF ALL CLIENTS. ABRAMSON HOME CARE PROVIDED OVER 28,000 HOURS OF HOME CARE SERVICES TO CLIENTS WHO QUALIFIED FOR MEDICAL ASSISTANCE.DIALYSISABRAMSON DIALYSIS (FMS ABRAMSON LLC) WAS ADDED IN FY 2014 THROUGH A JOINT VENTURE WITH BIO-MEDICAL APPLICATIONS OF PENNSYLVANIA, INC. AND RENAL ENTERPRISE, LLC. BIO-MEDICAL OWNS 51%, ABRAMSON OWNS 24.5% AND RENAL ENTERPRISE OWNS THE REMAINING 24.5%. THE DIALYSIS UNIT IS HOUSED IN NORTH WALES, PA AT THE ABRAMSON CAMPUS AND FEATURES 8 STATIONS. DIALYSIS IS OFFERED TO BOTH ABRAMSON CENTER RESIDENTS AND PATIENTS FROM THE COMMUNITY. MEDICAL DAY SERVICESTHE CENTER ALSO ESTABLISHED A MEDICAL DAY FACILITY EMBEDDED IN AN AFFORDABLE HOUSING APARTMENT BUILDING IN NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA. THIS FACILITY HAS THE CAPACITY TO SERVE 49 CLIENTS AND IS LARGELY CATERED TO THE NEEDS OF THE MEDICAL ASSISTANCE POPULATION. IN ADDITION TO THE AVAILABILITY OF REGISTERED NURSES, THE FACILITY ALSO FEATURES ACCESS TO A NURSE PRACTITIONER SO THAT CLIENTS CAN RECEIVE ASSISTANCE WITH MEDICAL NEEDS.
