THE MISSION OF THE CENTER FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING OF CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA IS TO ELIMINATE AND PREVENT BARRIERS THAT PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES EXPERIENCE BY PROVIDING ADVOCACY AND OFFERING INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES.
CILCP'S LIVING WELL WITH A DISABILITY PROGRAM PROVIDES A WIDE RANGE OF SERVICES. USING THE VAST RESOURCES AVAILABLE TO PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES, CILCP'S EXPERIENCED STAFF ASSISTED 95 CONSUMERS NAVIGATE THEIR SERVICE PLANS AND PERSONAL GOALS, WHICH INCLUDES NURSING HOME TRANSITION. IN 2019 OUR STAFF COORDINATED TRANSITIONS FROM THE NURSING HOME TO THE COMMUNITY FOR 32 PEOPLE HOME CARE FOR LIVING WELL IS THE CILCP'S HOMECARE PROGRAM. HOME CARE ASSISTS CONSUMERS BY PROVIDING IN-HOME, NON-MEDICAL DIRECT CARE SERVICES SO CONSUMERS ARE ABLE TO LIVE WELL IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. IN 2019, 68 CONSUMERS WERE SERVED BY OUR DEDICATED DIRECT CARE WORKERS. DEAFBLIND SERVICES FOR LIVING WELL (DBLWS) MATCHED 54 CONSUMERS WITH SUPPORT SERVICES PROVIDERS (SSP) AND TRAINED NEW SSPS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. SSPS AID CONSUMERS WITH VISUAL ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION AND HUMAN GUIDING SERVICES TO BETTER THE ACCESSIBILITY OF COMMUNITY LIVING FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE DEAFBLIND. SPECIALIZED SERVICES IS A STATE-WIDE PROJECT THAT PROVIDES TRAINING, ADVOCACY, COMMUNITY INTEGRATION AND OTHER TANGIBLE SUPPORTS TO ELIGIBLE NURSING HOME RESIDENTS ACROSS PENNSYLVANIA. 357 CONSUMERS RECEIVED SPECIALIZED SERVICES IN 2019. LIVING WELL TRANSPORT-CILCP WAS A LICENSED TRANSPORTATION PROVIDER THROUGH THE PUC IN 23 COUNTIES. 52 CONSUMERS RECEIVED COUNTLESS RIDES IN 2019 THANKS TO THE DEDICATED WORK OF OUR DRIVERS. HOME MODIFICATION AND ACCESS SERVICES ARE DESIGNED TO INCREASE CONSUMER INDEPENDENCE AND PREVENT CONSUMER HOSPITALIZATION OR NURSING HOME ENTRY. STAFF PROVIDE RESOURCES AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT SERVICES FROM START TO FINISH TO MAKE HOMES SAFE AND ACCESSIBLE. IN 2019, 136 CONSUMERS RECEIVED HOME MODIFICATIONS TO LIVE WELL IN THEIR COMMUNITY. CILCP ALSO OFFERS ADA TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND DISABILITY AWARENESS TRAINING. FOR EXAMPLE STAFF AND A VOLUNTEER PRESENTED TO FIRST RESPONDERS OF ALL LEVELS FROM STATE POLICE ARRIVING ON THE SCENE TO THE PEOPLE WHO ANSWER 911 CALLS. TOPICS INCLUDED EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION WITH PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES, TYPICAL DOS AND DON'TS, AND AVOIDING STEREOTYPES. UNIQUE HIGHLIGHTS OF 2019 SERVICES: HOSTING A VISIT WITH TOM OLIN, RENOWNED ACTIVIST PHOTOGRAPHER OF DISABILITY RIGHTS; CELEBRATING THE ADA WITH A VOTING REGISTRATION DAY AT THE BROAD STREET MARKET; WELCOMING OUR INTERN THROUGH THE OFFICE OF VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION, AND WATCHING HER BLOSSOM INTO AN AMAZING ADVOCATE; ENJOYING THE 2019 PICNIC AT LITTLE BUFFALO STATE PARK; EDUCATING CONSUMERS ON COMMUNITY HEALTH CHOICES; AND DEVELOPING OUR 2020-22 STRATEGIC PLAN
