Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE YOUNG WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF CARLISLE, PENNSYLVANIA IS DEDICATED TO ELIMINATING RACISM, EMPOWERING WOMEN AND GIRLS AND PROMOTING PEACE, JUSTICE, FREEDOM AND DIGNITY FOR ALL. YWCAS ACROSS THE COUNTRY ARE DISTINGUISHED BY PROGRAMS THAT FOCUS ON THESE MISSION PILLARS. LAST YEAR, THE AGENCY PROVIDED MISSION-FOCUSED PROGRAMS AND SERVICES TO 4,336 MEN, WOMEN, AND CHILDREN WITH THE HELP OF 276 VOLUNTEERS. THE AGENCY'S ADVOCACY COMMITTEE'S EFFORTS TO PROMOTE AWARENESS AND UNDERSTANDING OF ELIMINATING RACISM AND EMPOWERING WOMEN ISSUES RESULT IN EARNED MEDIA, DISPLAYS AND PROMOTION WITHIN THE COMMUNITY, COLLABORATION WITH PARTNERS SUCH AS THE LOCAL LIBRARY AND NEARBY COLLEGES, PUSHING VOTER REGISTRATION TO RESIDENTS, FACILITY LOBBY EDUCATIONAL DISPLAYS AND MUCH MORE CENTERED AROUND THESE TWO MISSION THEMES.
SEXUAL ASSAULT/RAPE CRISIS SERVICES OF CUMBERLAND COUNTY (SA/RCS): WITH A STAFF OF SIX FULL TIME EMPLOYEES, PLUS A CORPS OF VOLUNTEERS HELPING TO STAFF THE HOTLINE CRISIS SERVICE WEEKLY; SA/RCS PROVIDES DIRECT VICTIM SERVICES INCLUDING ACCOMPANIMENT FOR MEDICAL AND LEGAL PROCEEDINGS, COUNSELING SERVICES, TRAUMA THERAPY SERVICES, SUPPORT GROUPS, AGE- APPROPRIATE PREVENTION EDUCATION PROGRAMS AND ADVOCACY/EDUCATION PROGRAMS TO HELP THE COMMUNITY BETTER UNDERSTAND THE DYNAMICS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT. PRESCHOOL: YWCA PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS ARE KNOWN FOR THEIR UNIQUE 4-HOUR PER DAY CLASS TIME AND STRONG CURRICULUM ADDRESSING OUR MISSION PILLARS. NUMBER SERVED: 79 INCLUDING 5 CHILDREN WITH SCHOLARSHIPS.
YOUTH PROGRAMS: YWCA IS KNOWN FOR ITS STRONG YOUTH PROGRAMS INCLUDING TWO LOCATIONS FOR AFTERSCHOOL HOMEWORK CLUBS (ONE LOCATION IN THE SUBSIDIZED HOUSING COMPLEX TO ASSIST WITH HOMEWORK COMPLETION AND ACADEMIC IMPORVEMENT FOR CHILDREN LIVING IN LIMITED SOCIO-ECONOMIC SETTING); GIRLPOWER - AN AWARD WINNING MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM FOR GIRLS WITHIN THE CARLISLE SCHOOL DISTRICT'S CLUB STRUCTURE, ADDRESSING ACADEMIC AND SOCIAL/PERSONAL GROWTH SKILLS FOR GIRLS IN NEED OF ADDITIONAL SUPPORT; YOUNG WONDERS SUMMER DAY CAMP FOR ELEMENTARY AGE CHILDREN HELPING SUPPORT CONTINUED LEARNING THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER VACATION AND LEAD (LEAD.EMPOWER.ADVOCATE.DEVELOP.)
