HEALTHY LIVING: The Y is a leading voice on health and well-being in the Greater Philadelphia area, including Burlington and Camden counties in NJ. We bring families closer together, encourage good health, and foster connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. The Y provides a variety of programs to reach all members of our community: LIVESTRONG, a program to support cancer survivors with a 12-week physical activity program designed to get them back on their feet; Safety Around Water program developed to help kids and adults learn water safety because drowning is the leading cause of death for children under age 12.
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT: The YMCA is committed to nurturing the potential of every child and teen. The Y helps young people cultivate the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behavior, better health, and educational achievement. YMCA programs such as Summer Camp, Overnight Camp, After School Enrichment, the 7th Grade Initiative and Youth Sports offer a range of experiences that enrich cognitive, social, physical and emotional growth. The Greater Philadelphia Y is a large provider of Child Care services in Southeastern PA, caring for approximately 1,500 0-5 year-old children each day. The Y offers state-certified and Keystone Star-ranked child care programs at over 90 locations. The summer camp programs care for more the 5,000 children, nearly 2200 of them receiving financial assistance to attend camp. For children with special medical needs, there is Dragonfly Forest. Dragonfly Forest is a summer camp program for children with Autism, 22Q, Asthma, Hemophilia and Sickle Cell disease. Taking place each summer at the Y owned Camp Speers. The 7th Grade Membership Initiative guarantees every 7th grade student in a free one-year membership at any Greater Philadelphia Y. This program allows the Y the opportunity to engage, cultivate and connect with youth at a time that is most crucial to their development. Over 12,000 free memberships to 7th graders are awarded each year.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: The Y takes pride in building stronger communities; listening and responding to our community's most critical social needs. For more than 175 years, the Y programs deliver training, resources, and support that empowers our neighbors to effect change, bridge gaps, and overcome obstacles. Some of the impact programs include: Y Achievers (3,000 members), Youth and Government (YAG) and the Y Model United Nations (UN) program.
