TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH AN INVESTMENT IN POCONO HEALTH SYSTEM.

AS A RESIDENT OF MONROE COUNTY, IT IS LIKELY YOUR LIFE HAS BENEFITTED FROM THE EFFORTS OF THE POCONO HEALTH FOUNDATION (PHF). THE MISSION OF THE PHF IS TO ENHANCE THE QUALITY OF LIFE AND HEALTH FOR THOSE LIVING IN MONROE COUNTY. THIS MISSION IS ACCOMPLISHED IN A VARIETY OF WAYS.ONE OF THE MOST VISIBLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE PHF IS THE SUCCESSFUL $26 MILLION CAPITAL CAMPAIGN BETWEEN THE YEARS OF 2010 THROUGH 2015 TO BUILD THE EXISTING DALE & FRANCES HUGHES CANCER CENTER. THE HUGHES CANCER CENTER PROVIDES STATE-OF-THE-ART CANCER CARE FOR RESIDENTS IN AND AROUND MONROE COUNTY. MOST RECENTLY THE HUGHES CANCER CENTER ACHIEVED FULL-ACCREDITATION WITH MEMORIAL SLOAN KETTERING (MSK). THIS AFFILIATION, ONE OF THREE IN THE UNITED STATES, ALLOWS LOCAL RESIDENTS WITH A CANCER DIAGNOSIS TO FULL-ACCESS TO THE LIFE-SAVING PROTOCOLS AND CLINICAL TRIALS AVAILABLE EXCLUSIVELY THROUGH MSK.NOT SO OBVIOUS ARE THE MANY OTHER PARTNERSHIPS PHF ALIGNS ITSELF WITH TO ACCOMPLISH ITS MISSION.ONE OF THE MOST UNDERPUBLICIZED, YET IMPORTANT EFFORTS OF THE PHF IS THE ANNUAL GRANT & SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM. OVER THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS PHF HAS AWARDED OVER $200,000 ANNUALLY TO COMMUNITY NON-PROFITS AND STUDENTS PURSUING AND EDUCATION IN HEALTHCARE. THE IMPACT OF THESE GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS ARE UNENDING. AN EXAMPLE OF A RECENT COMMUNITY NON-PROFIT GRANT IS TO POCONO SERVICES FOR FAMILIES AND CHILDREN (PSFC) IN THE AMOUNT OF $5,868 FOR EQUIPMENT TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH LITERACY TRAINING PROVIDED TO THE FAMILIES ELIGIBLE FOR SERVICES PROVIDED BY PSFC. THIS VALUABLE TRAINING TEACHES THE PARENTS OF INCOME-ELIGIBLE FAMILIES IMPORTANT AND SOMETIMES LIFESAVING MEDICAL TRAINING FOR PROPER CARE OF THEIR CHILDREN.HEALTHCARE SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AWARDED TO APPLICANTS BASED ON A COMBINATION OF ACADEMIC MERIT AND A PASSION FOR SERVING THE HEALTHCARE INDUSTRY. THESE MONETARY AWARDS MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIFE OF AN INDIVIDUAL WHO IS COMMITTED TO SERVING PATIENTS. PAST SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS HAVE GRADUATED AND BECOME NURSES, PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS (PA), CERTIFIED REGISTERED NURSE PRACTITIONERS (CRNP), RADIOLOGISTS, PATHOLOGISTS, PHYSICIANS WITH MANY WORKING AT LEHIGH VALLEY HOSPITAL POCONO (LVH-P).THE PHF ACTIVELY SEEKS GRANT OPPORTUNITIES ALIGNED WITH THE STRATEGIC PRIORITIES OF LVH-P. MOST RECENTLY SEVERAL GRANTS HAVE BEEN PURSUED AND SECURED TO MAINTAIN OPERATIONS FOR LVH-P HOSPICE HOUSE OF MONROE COUNTY. IN PAST YEARS, OVER $500,000 IN GRANT FUNDS WERE AWARDED TO PHF TO PURCHASE AND DEPLOY A MOBILE MAMMOGRAPHY COACH TO INCREASE ACCESSIBILITY TO BREAST HEALTH CARE FOR MONROE COUNTY.EVERY YEAR THE PHF ORGANIZES NUMEROUS DONOR RECOGNITION EVENTS TO THANK INDIVIDUALS, GROUPS AND BUSINESSES WHO GENEROUSLY SUPPORT THE PROGRAMS AND PATIENTS AT LVH-P. ADDITIONALLY, WE STRIVE TO KEEP THE DONOR BASE INFORMED OF PHF ACTIVITIES AND THE IMPACT NEW PROGRAMS AND INITIATIVES AT LVH-P HAVE ON THE COMMUNITY WE SERVE.BOTH THE ANNUAL HOLIDAY TREE LIGHTING AND THE CELEBRATION OF EMS HEROES EVENTS PARTNER WITH LOCAL COMMUNITY GROUPS AND BUSINESSES TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY.THE HOLIDAY TREE LIGHTING HELD ITS 28TH ANNUAL EVENT AND CONTINUED PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ROTARY CLUB OF THE SMITHFIELDS TO RAISE MONEY AND AWARD GRANTS TO MONROE COUNTY NON-PROFITS BENEFITTING CHILDREN. THE CELEBRATION AND AWARD CEREMONY IS HOSTED AT THE HUGHES CANCER CENTER WITH SEVERAL LOCAL SCHOOL CHORAL GROUPS PROVIDING SEASONAL ENTERTAINMENT. IN FY20, THERE WERE $13,000 IN AWARDS GRANTED TO NINE COMMUNITY NON-PROFIT AGENCIES.THE PHF IS FORTUNATE TO SERVE A VERY GENEROUS COMMUNITY INTERESTED IN SUPPORTING THE PROGRAMS AND PATIENTS AT LVH-P. MANY COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO HAVE BENEFITED FROM THE COMPREHENSIVE SERVICES AND COMPASSIONATE CARE AT LVH-P ARE EAGER TO 'PAY IT FORWARD AND DONATE IN VARIETY OF WAYS. THE PHF FACILITATES MANY OPPORTUNITIES FOR THESE DONATIONS TO BE DIRECTED BASED ON EACH DONOR WISH. IN FY20, PHF RECEIVED $2 MILLION IN PROGRAM AND PATIENT CARE DIRECTED DONATIONS.IN THE SPIRIT OF VOLUNTEERISM AS A WAY TO CONTRIBUTE, THE AUXILIARY OF LVH-P SERVES AS AN EXTENSION OF THE PHF. THE MISSION OF THE AUXILIARY IS TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF SUPPORTING SPECIFIC PROJECTS AT LVH-POCONO. THIS GROUP OF 10-PLUS VOLUNTEERS MANAGE A VARIETY OF FUNDRAISERS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR SUPPORTED BY THE STAFF AT THE PHF. THE TWO LARGEST EVENTS ARE THE AUXILIARY GALA IN THE FALL AND THE AUXILIARY AUCTION IN THE SPRING. THE AUXILIARY OFFERS THE PERFECT FORUM FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO CANNOT GIVE MONETARILY, BUT THROUGH THEIR COLLECTIVE EFFORTS CAN LEVERAGE LARGE DONATIONS FOR A SPECIFIC INITIATIVE AT LVH-P. IN FY20 THE AUXILIARY OF LVH-P RAISED AND DONATED $40,000 TO THE PHF.EVERY DAY, DONATIONS LARGE AND SMALL ARE DIRECTED TO THE PHF FOR A VARIETY OF FUNDS. IN FY20 THE FOCUS TO SUPPLEMENT THE COST OF OPERATIONS FOR LVH-P HOSPICE HOUSE OF MONROE COUNTY HAS RESONATED WITH MANY IN THE COMMUNITY. NUMEROUS COMMUNITY FUNDRAISING EVENTS, FROM COIN JARS TO A TELETHON, HAVE GENERATED A STEADY STREAM OF DONATIONS. THE STAFF AT THE PHF SUPPORTS THESE EFFORTS AND ACKNOWLEDGES ALL GIFTS RECEIVED. IN FY20, CLOSE TO $800,000 HAS BEEN RAISED TO SUPPORT HOSPICE HOUSE. ALTHOUGH IT MAY SEEM MOST OF THE PHF EFFORTS ARE FOCUSED ON RECEIVING DONATIONS AND ALLOCATING FUNDS, ANOTHER FOCUS IS ON EDUCATING THE COMMUNITY ON THE INCREASING NUMBER OF MEDICAL SERVICES PROVIDED AT LVH-P AND THE NETWORK AS A WHOLE. ONE SIGNIFICANT INITIATIVE LAUNCHED RECENTLY WAS THE BOARD OF ASSOCIATES. THIS GROUP MEETS FOUR TO FIVE TIMES PER YEAR AND CURRENTLY HAS A MEMBERSHIP OF 21 AMBASSADORS FOR LVH-P. THE MEMBERSHIP COMPOSITION ENCOMPASSES A CROSS-SECTION OF COMMUNITY LEADERS AND INFLUENCERS; ACADEMIC, NON-PROFIT, PROFESSIONAL SERVICE, SENIORS, PRIVATE-SECTOR BUSINESS, BANKING, RESORTS, RETAIL AND RETIRED. EACH MEETING PROVIDES UPDATES ON LVH-P AND THE NETWORK AND OFFERS A CLINICAL EDUCATION SESSION ON THE MOST RECENT ADVANCES IN MEDICINE AVAILABLE AT THE NETWORK. THESE MEETINGS ALSO PROVIDE A FORUM FOR THE COMMUNITY TO SHARE COMMENTS OR CONCERNS DIRECTLY WITH THE HOSPITAL LEADERSHIP. THE PHF WORKS COOPERATIVELY WITH MARKETING AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS TO ENSURE EACH SESSION IS EFFECTIVE, INFORMATIVE AND CREATES AN 'INSIDER' FEELING FOR THE MEMBERS.THE PHF WORKS DAILY AND TIRELESSLY TO ENSURE THE PROGRAMS AND PATIENTS AT LVH-P ARE SERVED, DONATIONS ARE STEWARDED RESPONSIBLY, AND WE REMAIN COMMITTED TO INCREASING THE QUALITY OF HEALTH AND LIFE TO THE RESIDENTS OF MONROE COUNTY.
