EMERGENCY RESPONSE AND AMBULANCE TRANSPORT.

WEST END COMMUNITY AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION (WECA) HAS OPERATED AS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION IN MONROE COUNTY SINCE 1955, PROVIDING BOTH ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT AND BASIC LIFE SUPPORT.WEST END COMMUNITY AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION HAS BEEN DESIGNATED AS THE PRIMARY EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES AGENCY IN THE FOLLOWING TOWNSHIPS: CHESTNUTHILL, POLK, ELDRED, AND TUNKHANNOCK, WITH A TOTAL OF 34,676 RESIDENTS. WECA PROVIDES SERVICES TO HAMILTON, AND ROSS TOWNSHIPS, WITH A TOTAL OF 15,023 RESIDENTS. WECA COVERS 154 SQUARE MILES ON A PRIMARY AND FIRST-DUE BASIS. SINCE THE OPENING OF OUR THIRD SUBSTATION IN FEBRUARY 2018, WECA PROVIDES MUTUAL AID SERVICES TO STROUD TOWNSHIP, STROUDSBURG BOROUGH, EAST STROUDSBURG BOROUGH AND AT TIMES MIDDLE SMITHFIELD TOWNSHIP, LEHMAN, AND PIKE COUNTY. THE WECA CALL VOLUME FOR 2018 WAS 4,874.IN ADDITION TO THE 24/7 EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WECA PROVIDES, WECA ALSO SUPPORTS OUR AREA EMS PARTNERS AND LVH-POCONO WITH TRANSPORTS OF BOTH CRITICALLY ILL PATIENTS TO A HIGHER LEVEL OF CARE, AND DISCHARGED HOME PATIENTS.WECA HAS SERVED AS THE PRIMARY EVENT MEDICAL TEAM FOR THE WEST END FAIR FOR OVER TWENTY-FIVE YEARS. IN 2019, AN ESTIMATED 130,000 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE WEST END FAIR. WECA EMPLOYS 31 FULLTIME ADVANCED AND BASIC LIFE SUPPORT PROVIDERS AND 14 PER DIEM PROVIDERS. OUR FLEET IS COMPRISED OF SIX AMBULANCES THAT ARE UTILIZED AT OUR THREE STATIONS. MOST RECENTLY A QRS UNIT HAS BEEN ADDED TO OUR FLEET. THIS ENHANCES OUR RESPONSE TO 911 CALLS BY ADDING ADDITIONAL PARAMEDIC SERVICES.IN ADDITION, WE ALSO PROVIDE CPR AND FIRST AID TRAINING FOR THE CHESTNUTHILL, POLK, ELDRED TOWNSHIP AND TUNKHANNOCK ROAD CREW AND STAFF; PROVIDE RE-CERTIFICATION TO CURRENT CPR HOLDERS; AND PROVIDE AN ADDITIONAL FIRST AID AND BLEEDING CONTROL COURSE FOR THE CHESTNUTHILL, POLK, ELDRED TOWNSHIP AND TUNKHANNOCK ROAD CREW AND STAFF. WE HAVE ALSO PARTNERED WITH THE EASTERN PA EMS COUNCIL IN HANDS-ONLY CPR AND STOP THE BLEED TRAINING PROGRAMS AT ALL SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN MONROE COUNTY. WECA PROVIDES PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE CHECKS, CHANGES SMOKE ALARM BATTERIES, AND PROVIDES SERVICES AND REPLACEMENT PADS FOR AED'S. WECA ALSO PROVIDES ALS/BLS STANDBY SERVICES FOR THE PLEASANT VALLEY AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR FOOTBALL, CROSS COUNTRY, AND COMMUNITY EVENTS INCLUDING 5K RACES AND SMALL FAIRS WITHIN THE WEST END COVERAGE AREA.
