THE SEMINARY RIDGE HISTORIC PRESERVATION FOUNDATION PRESERVES AND MAINTAINS THE NATIONAL HISTORIC CIVIL WAR PROPERTIES, ARCHITECTURE AND HISTORIC LEGACIES OF GETTYSBURG'S SEMINARY RIDGE AND FOCUSES ON EDUCATION TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC.THE FOUNDATION'S EDUCATIONAL MISSION AND PROGRAMS FOCUS ON:1.THE INTERPRETATION OF ONE OF THE NATION'S MOST ICONIC CIVIL WAR BUILDINGS (THE MUSEUM BUILDING).2.THE DEVELOPMENT OF A COMPREHENSIVE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM FOCUSED ON THE CIVIL WAR, ITS CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES, AND CONTEMPORARY, RELEVANT ISSUES THAT FACE CURRENT GENERATIONS.THE FOUNDATION OPERATES THE GETTYSBURG SEMINARY RIDGE MUSEUM, WHICH OPENED IN 2013 - 150 YEARS TO THE DAY AFTER THE BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG BEGAN. TO DATE, THE FOUNDATION HAS MORE THAN 8,000 FINANCIAL SUPPORTERS AND PARTICIPANTS NATIONWIDE, COMMITTED TO THE MUSEUM PROJECT AND CONTINUED EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING.THE MUSEUM FEATURES 20,000 SQUARE FEET OF INTERACTIVE EXHIBIT GALLERIES AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING TO INTERPRET THREE MAJOR AREAS OF EMPHASIS - NONE OF WHICH ARE THE FOCUS OF ANY OTHER MUSEUM IN GETTYSBURG:1. THE PIVOTAL FIRST DAY OF THE BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG ON SEMINARY RIDGE2. THE CARE OF THE WOUNDED AND HUMAN SUFFERING WITHIN SCHMUCKER HALL DURING ITS USE AS A CIVIL WAR FIELD HOSPITAL3. THE MORAL, CIVIC, AND SPIRITUAL DEBATES OF THE CIVIL WAR ERA.THE MUSEUM PRIDES ITSELF ON OFFERING A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE, COMMITTED TO MAINTAINING PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS WITH VISITORS AND PARTNERS. THE MUSEUM ENGAGES VISITORS WITH RELEVANT QUESTIONS ABOUT NOT ONLY THE BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG AND THE CIVIL WAR, BUT ALSO ABOUT CONTEMPORARY ISSUES AND THE UNFINISHED WORK FOR FREEDOM. THE MUSEUM EXPERIENCE IS DESIGNED TO COMPLEMENT EXISTING GETTYSBURG OFFERINGS. ITS PROJECT'S TWO KEY PARTNERS ARE THE ADAMS COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY AND THE GETTYSBURG SEMINARY. THE MUSEUM SOLD 20,100 TICKETS DURING THE FISCAL YEAR. THE MUSEUM HAS ALREADY RECEIVED NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION. THE BUILDING RENOVATION RECEIVED LEADERSHIP IN ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN (LEED) CERTIFICATION FROM THE U.S. GREEN BUILDING COUNCIL. THE PROJECT RECEIVED AN AWARD FROM THE ASSOCIATED BUILDERS AND CONTRACTORS CUMBERLAND VALLEY CHAPTER AS WELL AS ITS NATIONAL AWARD FOR HISTORICAL RESTORATION. THE MUSEUM RECEIVED INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION IN NOVEMBER 2013 FROM THE BRITISH GUILD OF TRAVEL WRITERS AS AN OUTSTANDING NEW TOURISM PROJECT; NATIONAL RECOGNITION FROM THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF STATE AND LOCAL HISTORY AND A STATEWIDE AWARD FROM PENNSYLVANIA MUSEUMS.THE SEMINARY RIDGE HISTORIC PRESERVATION FOUNDATION (SRHPF) WAS INCORPORATED UNDER THE NONPROFIT LAWS OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA ON APRIL 29, 1999, TO RESTORE, PRESERVE AND MAINTAIN THE NATIONAL HISTORIC CIVIL WAR PROPERTIES, ARCHITECTURE AND HISTORICAL LEGACIES OF SEMINARY RIDGE, AND PROVIDE RELATED EDUCATION AND COMMUNICATION OF THESE LEGACIES FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC. THE FOUNDATION'S SPECIAL PROJECT, SEMINARY RIDGE MUSEUM (SRM) FUNCTIONS AS ONE OF SOUTH-CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA'S PREMIERE MUSEUMS AND TEACHING INSTITUTIONS.THE MUSEUM, HOUSED IN THE REHABILITATED GETTYSBURG LUTHERAN SEMINARY (1832) OPENED IN 2013. SINCE THEN, IT HAS SERVED NOT ONLY VISITORS TO THE GETTYSBURG AREA, BUT ALSO LOCAL AND REGIONAL SCHOOLS BY PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING TO ELEMENTARY, SECONDARY (CURRICULUM ALIGNED) AND POST-SECONDARY SCHOOLS THROUGH IN-PERSON PROGRAMMING AND AN EXPANDING SUITE OF DIGITAL OFFERINGS.
