MISSION STATEMENTNETWORK OF VICTIM ASSISTANCE (NOVA) SUPPORTS, COUNSELS, AND EMPOWERS VICTIMS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT AND OTHER SERIOUS CRIMES IN BUCKS COUNTY AND WORKS TO PREVENT AND ELIMINATE VIOLENCE IN SOCIETY THROUGH ADVOCACY, TRAINING, COMMUNITY EDUCATION AND PREVENTION PROGRAMS.VISION STATEMENTNOVA ENVISIONS A SOCIETY FREE OF VIOLENCE, ONE THAT EMPOWERS INDIVIDUALS AND PROMOTES RESPECT FOR THE PRIVACY, DIVERSITY AND DIGNITY OF ALL PEOPLE. VALUES STATEMENTWE BELIEVE THAT ALL INDIVIDUALS SHOULD BE EMPOWERED TO MAKE DECISIONS ABOUT THEIR LIVES, TO BE SECURE FROM VIOLATION OF THEIR BODIES AND PERSONAL SPACE, AND TO LIVE IN A SOCIETY FREE FROM VIOLENCE. WE FURTHER BELIEVE THAT SOCIETY HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO EDUCATE AND SUPPORT INDIVIDUALS WITH REGARD TO THESE RIGHTS.
THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES 24 HOUR A DAY HOTLINE SUPPORT, CRISIS INTERVENTION, INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP COUNSELING, ADVOCACY, OUTREACH, AND CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES TO HELP VICTIMS OF CRIME EXERCISE THEIR RIGHTS IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM AND RECOVER FROM THE PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL AND FINANCIAL TRAUMA OF VICTIMIZATION. THE ORGANIZATION, THROUGH ITS CHILDREN'S ADVOCACY CENTER PROGRAM, WORKS COLLABORATIVELY WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT, THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY AND CHILDREN AND YOUTH TO HELP ENSURE MULTIDISCIPLINARY INVESTIGATIONS OF CHILD ABUSE. THE ORGANIZATION COORDINATES STATEWIDE CRISIS RESPONSE TO INCIDENTS OF MASS VIOLENCE AND PROVIDES IN-HOME TRAUMA SUPPORT COUNSELING TO THE AREA'S MOST VULNERABLE FAMILIES WHO HAVE DIFFICULTY ACCESSING OFFICE BASED SERVICES. THROUGH OUR SEXUAL ASSAULT NURSE EXAMINER (SANE) PROGRAM, NOVA OFFERS SURVIVORS PROMPT, COMPASSIONATE CARE AND A COMPREHENSIVE MEDICAL-FORENSIC EXAM.
CRISIS SUPPORT AND COUNSELING: LAST YEAR, THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED 42,943 HOURS OF HOTLINE SUPPORT, COUNSELING, AND ADVOCACY TO VICTIMS AND THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS FROM ONE OF THE ORGANIZATION'S THREE OFFICES OR THROUGH ITS MOBILE SCHOOL COUNSELING PROGRAM. SUPPORT AND COUNSELING GROUPS OFFERED INCLUDED THOSE FOR CHILDHOOD VICTIMS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT, TEEN RAPE VICTIMS, FAMILIES OF HOMICIDE VICTIMS, CLERGY ABUSE VICTIMS AND THOSE VICTIMS IN DRUG OR ALCOHOL RECOVERY.
CRIME VICTIM ADVOCACY: IN FY 2019, THE ORGANIZATION'S STAFF PROVIDED THESE SERVICES TO 3,145 VICTIMS AND THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS. OF THOSE SERVED, 53% WERE DEALING WITH A SEXUAL ASSAULT, 53% OF VICTIMS WERE FEMALE AND 26% WERE UNDER THE AGE OF 18. THE ORGANIZATION, THROUGH ITS CHILDREN'S ADVOCACY CENTER PROGRAM, WORKED COLLABORATIVELY WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT, THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY AND CHILDREN AND YOUTH TO HELP ENSURE 291 MULTIDISCIPLINARY INVESTIGATIONS OF CHILD ABUSE.
PREVENTION AND EDUCATION: IN FY 2019, THE ORGANIZATION'S EDUCATORS PROVIDED 1279 PROGRAMS TO 32,152 STUDENTS, TEACHERS, AND PARENTS ON SUCH TOPICS AS PERSONAL SAFETY, BULLYING, CYBER SAFETY AND HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTINUED TO EXPAND ITS PROGRAMMING FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES. AN ADDITIONAL 275 TRAININGS WERE PROVIDED TO COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND PROFESSIONALS TO ENHANCE THEIR SKILLS IN WORKING WITH VICTIMS, UNDERSTAND THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES IN REPORTING ABUSE AND INCREASE AWARENESS OF PERSONAL SAFETY SKILLS AND VICTIMIZATION ISSUES. THE OUTCOMES OF THESE EFFORTS INDICATED THAT 85.7% ACQUIRED NEW KNOWLEDGE AND 91.5% FELT CONFIDENT USING GAINED STRATEGIES TO HELP REDUCE RISK AND VIOLENCE IN THEIR HOMES, SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITIES AND TO PROMOTE EARLY INTERVENTION WITH VICTIMS.
