THE MISSION OF THE ARDF IS TO FUND AND PROMOTE THE DEVELOPMENT, VALIDATION AND ADOPTION OF NON-ANIMAL METHODS IN BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH, PRODUCT TESTING, AND EDUCATION.

THE 'ANNUAL OPEN' GRANT PROGRAM FUNDED PROJECTS AT UNIVERSITIES THAT WILL DEVELOP NON-ANIMAL MODELS FOR BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH, USING BIOREACTORS, BIOPRINTING, CRYOPRESERVATION, IN VITRO CO-CULTURES, AND COMPUTER MODELING. ONE NEW MODEL, USING A MICROFLUIDIC 'CHIP' SYSTEM, WILL REPLACE A COMMONLY USED MOUSE TEST. TAKEN TOGETHER, THESE PROJECTS WILL ADVANCE ANIMAL WELFARE AND HUMAN HEALTH.ARDF ALSO SPONSORED SCIENTIFIC MEETINGS, AND EDUCATION AND OUTREACH ON ALTERNATIVE METHODS TO ACCELERATE UNDERSTANDING AND COLLABORATION.
