Organizations Filed Purposes: THE MISSION OF 1901 CHURCH, INC. (DBA THE STEEPLES PROJECT) IS TO TRANSFORM HISTORIC, FORMER ETHNIC CHURCH BUILDINGS INTO DYNAMIC VENUES WITHIN THE CAMBRIA CITY CULTURAL DISTRICT OF JOHNSTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA

THE GRAND HALLE RENEWAL PROJECT- PHASE ONE: 1901 CHURCH CURRENTLY IS PRESERVING AND RESTORING THE ARCHITECTURAL SPLENDOR OF ONE OF ITS FORMER CHURCH BUILDINGS - NOW KNOWN AS THE GRAND HALLE ON BROAD STREET. THE BUILDING CURRENTLY SERVES THE PUBLIC AS A CONCERT HALL AND SPECIAL-EVENTS VENUE. A 330,000 ROOF REPAIR PROJECT WAS COMPLETED AS PHASE ONE OF A 500,000 GRAND HALLE RENEWAL PROJECT. A SPECIALTY ROOFER WAS RETAINED TO REPLACE MOST OF THE COPPER VALLEYS, FLASHINGS, SADDLES, GUTTERS AND DOWNSPOUTS; HUNDREDS OF SLATE SHINGLES WERE REPLACED; AND VENTILATION DORMERS WERE RE- SIDED AND PAINTED. THIS WORK SUCCESSFULLY SEALED UP A NUMBER OF AREAS ON THE 112-YEAR-OLD FORMER CHURCH BUILDING'S ROOF THAT WERE LEAKING AND ALLOWING CORRUPTION OF THE DECORATIVE PLASTERWORK AND WALL PLASTER INSIDE. THE PROJECT SET THE STAGE FOR PHASE TWO TO TAKE PLACE IN 2020: A 170,000 INTERIOR RENEWAL PROJECT TO RESTORE THE VICTORIAN GOTHIC ARCHITECTURAL FEATURES OF THIS HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT BUILDING.

THE GRAND HALLE RENEWAL PROJECT, PHASE TWO, WILL RESTORE THE VICTORIAN GOTHIC PLASTERWORK AND RESULT IN THE FULL REPAINTING OF THE MAIN HALL. THIS 170,000 PROJECT WILL BE FUNDED THROUGH AN 85,000 KEYSTONE HISTORIC PRESERVATION CONSTRUCTION GRANT, A 50,000 GRANT FROM THE MCKENNA FOUNDATION OF LATROBE, PA, AND 35,000 THROUGH AN 1889 FOUNDATION CAPITAL- MATCH GRANT.

SCHEMATIC DESIGN WAS COMPLETED ON THE COLUMBA THEATRE ADAPTIVE REUSE PROJECT FOR 1901 CHURCH'S OTHER BUILDING, THE FORMER ST. COLUMBA CHURCH, WHICH HAS BEEN VACANT FOR 10 YEARS. BUILDING UPON AN EFFECTIVE FEASIBILITY STUDY, WHICH WAS PERFORMED IN 2017, THIS PROJECT FEATURES A DESIGN TEAM THAT INCLUDES TWO ARCHITECTS, A STRUCTURAL ENGINEER, THREE THEATRE- DEVELOPMENT SPECIALISTS AND AN ACOUSTICIAN. FUNDING FOR THE PROJECT INCLUDED A 40,000 NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS' ART WORKS GRANT, A 25,000 KEYSTONE HISTORIC PRESERVATION PLANNING GRANT, A 7,750 GRANT FROM THE NATIONAL TRUST FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION AND A 5,000 GRANT FROM THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION FOR THE ALLEGHENIES. SCHEMATIC DESIGN SET UP DESIGN DEVELOPMENT, WHICH IS SCHEDULED FOR 2020.
