THE FOUNDATION FOR PEACE IS A 501(C)(3) NOT-FOR PROFIT ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO EDUCATION IN THE UNITED STATES AND TO WORKING HAND IN HAND WITH PEOPLE IN MATERIALLY IMPOVERISHED AREAS OF THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, HAITI, AND KENYA TO PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT, HEALTHCARE ACCESS, ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY AND HOPE. WE WORK TOGETHER AS LONG-TERM PARTNERS IN SOLIDARITY TO ENABLE PERSONAL SUCCESS AND COMMUNITY ACHIEVEMENT. WE BELIEVE THIS WILL RESULT IN SUSTAINABLE AND SUCCESSFUL INITIATIVES THAT RELIEVE THE EFFECTS OF POVERTY, ENCOURAGE PERSONAL GROWTH, AND OVERCOME INJUSTICE.
OBJECTIVE: OUR MISSION TEAMS PUT INTO ACTION OUR MISSION STATEMENT - WE CAN'T DO EVERYTHING, BUT WE'LL DO ANYTHING! FOUNDATION FOR PEACE WORKS HAND IN HAND ON HEALTH, EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY INITIATIVES IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, HAITI AND KENYA. OUR FLEXIBLE PARTNERSHIP APPROACH LETS US SAY "YES" TO COMMUNITIES' GREATEST NEEDS, LEADING TO NEW OPPORTUNITIES AND LASTING RELATIONSHIPS.ACCOMPLISHMENTS: DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, WE ONLY HAD 141 PARTICIPANTS IN MISSION TEAMS IN HAITI AND THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC IN 2020, WITH NO MISSION TRIPS TO KENYA. AS A RESULT, WE SHIFTED OUR ACTIVITIES TO ASSIST THOSE IN NEED IN OTHER WAYS.HAITI:WE CONTINUED WORKING WITH PEOPLE IN THE GANTHIER PROVINCE. TOGETHER WE ACCOMPLISHED THE FOLLOWING:- PROVIDED COVID-19 DISEASE PREVENTION EDUCATION AND MASKS TO MORE THAN 4,000 PEOPLE- PROVIDED OVER 300 HAND WASHING STATIONS- PROVIDED RELIEF AFTER TROPICAL STORM LAURA THROUGH HOME REPAIR AND FOOD DISTRIBUTION - BROUGHT HOPE BY STRENGTHENING EXISTING RELATIONSHIPS AND BUILDING NEW ONES- CONTINUED THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE LA MISSION EVANGELIQUE SANCTUAIRE DE LA GRACE CHURCH IN KWA KOK- CONTINUED TO OPERATE THE MEN NAN MEN PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL IN GANTHIER THAT PROVIDES ENGLISH AND SPANISH LANGUAGE CLASSES AND COMPUTER, TILING, SEWING, ELECTRICAL AND COOKING PROGRAMS- PROVIDED MEALS TO OVER 300 FAMILIES ON 6 OCCASIONS- INCREASED OUR LEADERSHIP ROLE AND INVESTMENT IN THE ORPHANS AT CAD BY PAYING SALARIES FOR ALL STAFF, PROVIDING WELL-ROUNDED MEALS, WATER AND ELECTRICITY REPAIRKENYA:OUR TEAM CONTINUED SUPPORT PROJECTS WITH OUR KENYAN PARTNERS IN THE MATHARE NORTH SLUM. TOGETHER WE ACCOMPLISHED THE FOLLOWING:- COMPLETED A FUND-RAISING EFFORT TO MOVE THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW LIVING WORD CHURCH IN MATHARE NORTH TO A POINT WHERE THEY CAN NOW WORSHIP IN THE NEW SANCTUARY. WE PLAN TO SEND A TEAM IN 2021 TO FINISH THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE SANCTUARY.DOMINICAN REPUBLIC:TOGETHER WE ACCOMPLISHED THE FOLLOWING:- PROVIDED COVID-19 DISEASE PREVENTION EDUCATION AND MASKS TO MORE THAN 1,000 PEOPLE - PROVIDED RELIEF AFTER TROPICAL STORM LAURA THROUGH ROOF REPAIR, FOOD DISTRIBUTION, MEDICAL CARE, ROAD REPAIR- CONTINUED STUDENT SPONSORSHIP PROGRAMS THAT FUND TUITION FOR TEACHER SALARIES, AS WELL AS OTHER NECESSITIES - BROUGHT HOPE TO THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE, BY STRENGTHENING EXISTING RELATIONSHIPS AND BUILDING NEW ONES- CONTINUED CONSTRUCTION IN MULTIPLE SITES INCLUDING CHURCHES, SCHOOLS, AND A COMMUNITY CENTER- CONTINUED SUPPORT FOR MEDICAL AND FINANCIAL NEEDS AT CASA DE LUZ, A HOME FOR PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY HANDICAPPED CHILDREN- PROVIDED MEDICAL CARE AND HEALTH EDUCATION FOR MORE THAN 500 FAMILIES- PRESENTED EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN
EDUCATION PROGRAMSOBJECTIVE: TO PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS THAT SURPASS GOVERNMENT STANDARDS IN AREAS WHERE THERE IS LITTLE OR NO AFFORDABLE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES. THIS IS ACCOMPLISHED IN SEVERAL WAYS: 1) PARTNERSHIPS WITH COMMUNITIES TO BUILD SCHOOLS, 2) STUDENT SPONSORSHIP PROGRAMS THAT FUND TUITION FOR TEACHER SALARIES, AS WELL AS OTHER NECESSITIES AND 3) OPERATION OF THE MEN NAN MEN PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL IN GANTHIER, HAITI THAT TEACHES LANGUAGES, COMPUTERS AND VARIOUS VOCATIONAL TRADES. ACCOMPLISHMENTS: THE LANGUAGE SCHOOL IN GANTHIER, HAITI THAT SERVES 300-500 STUDENTS BY TEACHING ENGLISH, SPANISH, AND COMPUTER SKILLS EXPANDED TO INCLUDE TILING, SEWING, ELECTRICAL AND COOKING EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS. WE CONTINUE TO SUPPORT SEVEN SCHOOLS IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC AND HAITI WITH FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE THROUGH SPONSORSHIP PROGRAMS.
