STEM (SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERING AND MATH) CAMPIT IS OUR GOAL TO EXPOSE THE STUDENTS TO VARIOUS CAREERS IN THE AREAS OF STEM. WE WILL DO THIS BY FOCUSING ON A DIFFERENT DISCIPLINE EACH DAY, WHILE BRINGING BUSINESSES AND EDUCATION CLOSER TO THE STUDENTS. WE HAVE LOCAL BUSINESS AND GOVERNMENT WHO ARE WILLING TO ASSIST WITH EACH OF THE DAYS. BECAUSE OF THE HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF BRIGHT SIDE OPPORTUNITIES CENTER WE ARE ABLE TO REACH MANY STUDENTS IN UNDER REPRESENTED POPULATIONS WHO DO NOT OTHERWISE PARTICIPATE IN STEM CAMPS OR ACTIVITIES. WE HAD 57 STUDENTS OF COLOR OF THE 60 PARTICIPANTS. WE UNDERSTAND THAT OUR CAMP WILL BE AN ASSET TO THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY AS WELL AS THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AS THE STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO USE THE SKILLS AND LESSONS THEY LEARNED OVER THE SUMMER TO DECREASE THE SUMMER BRAIN DRAIN AS WELL AS OPEN THE EYES AND INTEREST TO A CAREER IN THE STEM FIELD.
