MANNA ON MAIN STREET IS COMMITTED TO ENDING HUNGER IN THE NORTH PENN REGION BY PROVIDING FOOD, FULFILLING SOCIAL SERVICE AND EDUCATION NEEDS, AND CONDUCTING COMMUNITY OUTREACH. THROUGH A FOOD PANTRY AND SOUP KITCHEN, EMERGENCY FINANCIAL AID, COUNSELING AND REFERRALS , AND EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES, WE SERVE THOSE IN NEED WITH THE HOPE "THAT EVERYONE MIGHT BE FED".
MANNA'S MARKET (FOOD PANTRY): INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN OUR SERVICE AREA ARE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE GROCERIES TWICE PER MONTH. LAST YEAR 1033 HOUSEHOLDS OR 2,623 INDIVIDUALS PARTICIPATED; MORE THAN 278 TONS OF FOOD WAS DISTRIBUTED. MANNA EMPLOYS A "CHOICE" MODEL, SO THAT CLIENTS CAN SELECT THE ITEMS THEY WANT. THE AMOUNT OF FOOD THEY RECEIVE IS BASED UPON FAMILY SIZE, AND THERE ARE NO MAXIMUM INCOME EXCLUSIONS. MOST OF THE FOOD IS DONATED BY THE COMMUNITY; SCHOOLS,BUSINESSES,INDIVIDUALS, AND CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS DONATE PERISHABLE AND NONPERISHABLE FOOD. FRESH PRODUCE IS PROVIDED WEEKLY BY PHILABUNDANCE, AND OTHER FOOD IS MADE AVAILABLE THROUGH GROCERS AGAINST HUNGER, A PROGRAM OF FEEDING AMERICA. MANNA ALSO SHARES FOOD WITH THE COMMUNITY NUTRITION COALITION, A CONSORTIUM OF LOCAL FOOD CUPBOARDS. MANNA ALSO SHARES WITH THE MONTCO ANTI-HUNGER NETWORK, A CONSORTIUM OF REGIONAL FOOD PANTRIES IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY.
MANNA'S KITCHEN (SOUP KITCHEN): SEVEN DAYS A WEEK, MANNA SERVES HOT MEALS TO ANYONE THAT IS HUNGRY. MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, TWO MEALS ARE SERVED, AND ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY ONE MEAL IS PROVIDED. 38,902 MEALS WERE SERVED BY A CARING CONTINGENT OF 1,952 UNIQUE VOLUNTEERS SERVING 25,462 HOURS. MANNA ON MAIN STREET IS A SAFE HAVEN FOR OUR CLIENTS, A PLACE WHERE THEY CAN SHARE A MEAL AND FRIENDLY CONVERSATION IN A FAMILY ATMOSPHERE. IN ADDITION TO WARM, NUTRITIOUS FOOD, MANNA PROVIDES A MEANS FOR OUR CLIENTS TO STAY CONNECTED TO THE COMMUNITY AND A CIRCLE OF FRIENDS TO CARE FOR THEIR WELL-BEING.
EMERGENCY FINANCIAL AID: WHEN PEOPLE ARE FACED WITH EMERGENCY SITUATIONS, MANNA IS THERE TO GIVE AID. WE PROVIDE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR RENT, EMERGENCY MOTEL STAYS, UTILITIES (HEATING OIL, ELECTRIC, GAS, ETC.), PRESCRIPTIONS, MEDICAL AND DENTAL AID, OR OTHER VARIOUS NEEDS. FUNDS ARE ONLY PROVIDED WHEN THE INDIVIDUAL IS ABLE TO SUSTAIN THEMSELVES AFTER THE EMERGENCY SITUATION HAS BEEN RESOLVED. WE PROVIDED EMERGENCY FUNDS TO 270 HOUSEHOLDS. THE HOPE FOR THE HOLIDAYS PROGRAM PROVIDES FAMILIES WITH A 75 GIFT CARD PER CHILD TO PURCHASE NEEDED ITEMS DURING THE HOLIDAYS. ANY FAMILY THAT USES MANNA'S MARKET IS ELIGIBLE. DONORS CONTRIBUTE GIFT CARDS.
