FUNDRAISING FOR LATROBE AREA HOSPITAL
LATROBE AREA HOSPITAL CHARITABLE FOUNDATIONTHE GOAL OF THE LATROBE AREA HOSPITAL CHARITABLE FOUNDATION (LAHCF) - TO FACILITATE THE VERY BEST IN COMMUNITY-BASED HEALTH CARE AT EXCELA LATROBE HOSPITAL - SUPPORTS THE OVERALL MISSION OF THE EXCELA HEALTH SYSTEM. AND SINCE THE FOUNDATION'S BIRTH IN 1995, THE GOOD PEOPLE OF LATROBE AND BEYOND HAVE LENT GENEROUS SUPPORT FOR THE BETTERMENT OF LATROBE HOSPITAL AND THE COMMUNITIES IT SERVES. CONTRIBUTIONS HAVE GONE TO EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS THAT HAVE BEEN FAR REACHING AND COMPREHENSIVE. SERVING AS THE STEWARD FOR ALL CONTRIBUTIONS RECEIVED ON BEHALF OF EXCELA LATROBE HOSPITAL, THE FOUNDATION ALSO SUPPORTS THE HOSPITAL BY ADMINISTERING NUMEROUS DONOR-SPECIFIED CONTRIBUTIONS TOWARD PROJECTS SUCH AS CARDIAC REHABILITATION, CHILDHOOD OBESITY NUTRITION PROGRAM, ADOLESCENT BEHAVIORAL HEALTH, EPIC REHAB AND THE NEW HOME FOR THE EXCELA HEALTH LATROBE FAMILY MEDICINE RESIDENCY, AMONG OTHERS. THROUGHOUT ITS HISTORY, THE LAHCF HAS SUPPORTED MANY INITIATIVES, SO THE MESSAGE AND PRACTICE OF GOOD HEALTH, DISEASE PREVENTION AND WELLNESS REACHES COMMUNITY MEMBERS OF ALL AGES. FISCAL YEAR 2020 FOUNDATION PROJECTS/PROGRAMS FUNDEDTHANKS TO THE GENEROSITY OF A LOCAL DONOR, THE FOUNDATION INVESTED $500,000 IN SUPPORT OF PURCHASING A NEW SURGICAL ROBOT TO REPLACE THE CURRENT SURGICAL ROBOT, DAVINCI ROBOT XI, FOR LATROBE HOSPITAL. THIS REPLACEMENT CONSISTED OF SPECIFIC FEATURES THAT ENHANCED THE PERFORMANCE OF THE EQUIPMENT AND INCREASED EFFICIENCY. CURRENTLY, MANY SERVICES USE THE ROBOT FOR SURGICAL INTERVENTION INCLUDING GYNECOLOGY, UROLOGY AND GENERAL SURGERY WITH INTENT TO USE IN FUTURE ROBOTIC PROCEDURES BY THORACIC AND PULMONARY SERVICES. ROBOTIC SURGERY IS LESS INVASIVE AND SHORTENS THE PATIENT'S LENGTH OF STAY. ROBOTICS IS NOW A STANDARD IN MODERN SURGERY AND WILL BE THE AVENUE THROUGH WHICH MANY MINIMALLY INVASIVE PROCEDURES WILL OCCUR PRESENTLY AND WELL INTO THE FUTURE. THIS UPGRADE SIGNIFIES THE FOUNDATION'S COMMITMENT TO MAINTAINING CUTTING-EDGE SERVICES FOR OUR PATIENTS. TO REMAIN COMPLIANT WITH FEDERAL PHARMACY REGULATIONS AND THE JOINT COMMISSION, THE LATROBE HOSPITAL PHARMACY NEEDED TO MAKE IMPROVEMENTS AND RENOVATIONS. THESE RENOVATIONS INCLUDED INSTALLATION OF NEW AIR EXCHANGERS FOR AIRFLOW, TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY MANAGEMENT, CONSTRUCTION OF A NEGATIVE PRESSURE SPACE FOR HAZARDOUS DRUGS AND OTHER PHYSICAL CHANGES AS MANDATED, IN ADDITION TO A LARGER WORK SPACE FOR EMPLOYEES. THE FOUNDATION PROVIDED $500,000 TO THIS CRITICAL PROJECT COSTING MORE THAN $1.5 MILLION. THE PHARMACY RENOVATION PROJECT IS IMPORTANT FOR OUR PATIENTS WHO DEPEND ON MEDICATIONS FOR THEIR MEDICAL PROCEDURES AT LATROBE HOSPITAL AND FOR THE WELL-BEING OF OUR COMMUNITY. THE PHARMACY'S RENOVATIONS WILL BE COMPLETED BY EARLY FEBRUARY 2021. THE FOUNDATION ALSO SUPPORTS THE HEALTH NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY THROUGH A PROGRAM CALLED HEALTHY HABITS. FOR MORE THAN A DECADE, A LOCAL REGISTERED DIETITIAN HAS PROVIDED HEALTH AND WELLNESS EDUCATION AND INFORMATION TO THE COMMUNITY RELATED TO HEALTHY AND NUTRITIONAL FOODS AND BEVERAGES AND HOW TO MAINTAIN A HEALTHY, ACTIVE LIFESTYLE. IN SPITE OF THE CHALLENGES OF THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC, SHE REMAINS COMMITTED TO EXCELA HEALTH AUDIENCES THROUGH BLOGS AS WELL AS INTERACTIVE COOKING DEMONSTRATION VIDEOS FOR THE EXCELA HEALTH MALL WALKERS COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAM, SO SHE CAN CONTINUE TO SHARE HEALTHY HABIT EDUCATIONAL MESSAGES. THE FOUNDATION CREATED THE PANDEMIC RESPONSE FUND AT THE ONSET OF THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC IN RESPONSE TO THE NEED FOR ADDITIONAL SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT TO BEST TREAT PATIENTS. THE GENEROSITY OF THE LOCAL COMMUNITY HELPED TO SECURE EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES NEEDED TO TREAT COVID-19 PATIENTS BY PURCHASING PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT, SEWING FACE MASKS, DONATING MEALS TO EXCELA STAFF AND OFFERING MONETARY GIFTS TO EXPAND EXCELA'S CAPABILITY IN TREATING THE MOST CRITICALLY-ILL PATIENTS. THE FOUNDATION IS MOST GRATEFUL TO THE OVERWHELMING CARING AND CONCERN OF THE COMMUNITY. THE LATROBE AREA HOSPITAL CHARITABLE FOUNDATION MADE A GIFT OF $150,000 TO THE PANDEMIC RESPONSE FUND IN RESPONSE TO LATROBE HOSPITAL'S NEED TO CREATE NEW, HIGHLY SPECIALIZED NEGATIVE AIR PRESSURE ROOMS TO TREAT PATIENTS WITH COVID-19.
