EDUCATIONAL AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES TO CHILDREN, YOUTH, AND FAMILIES.
UNDER PA ACT 89, THE SCHOOL SERVICES DIVISION PROVIDES AUXILIARY SERVICES IN 65 ARCHDIOCESE OF PHILADELPHIA ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS, THE SERVICES INCLUDE EDUCATIONAL SERVICES IN MATH AND READING, PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES, SPEECH AND LANGUAGE SERVICES, AND COUNSELING/GUIDANCE SERVICES. IN EACH OF THE DISCIPLINES STUDENTS ARE ASSESSED TO DETERMINE APPROPRIATE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES TO BE ACCOMPLISHED. STUDENTS' GOALS ARE ACHIEVED THROUGH INDIVIDUAL OR SMALL GROUP SESSIONS WITH PA CERTIFIED STAFF. DURING FY20, THIS DIVISION PROVIDED 25,498 SERVICES TO 14,000 STUDENTS, PROVIDING AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE ENTIRE STUDENT POPULATION TO PARTICIPATE IN ONE OR MORE SERVICES. SPECIAL PROGRAMS, SUCH AS THE PEER HELPER PROGRAM, HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED AND IMPLEMENTED IN SEVERAL SCHOOLS. IN THIS PROGRAM, STUDENTS ARE TRAINED TO BE MENTORS FOR THEIR PEERS UNDER THE DIRECTION OF CORA COUNSELORS. THE CAREER DEVELOPMENT RESOURCE CENTER PROVIDES CAREER GUIDANCE FOR 7TH AND 8TH GRADE STUDENTS, WITH THE GOAL OF PROMOTING CAREER AWARENESS AND AN OPPORTUNITY FOR HANDS-ON CAREER EXPLORATION.
CHARTER SERVICES: IN FY20, CORA PROVIDED 5,429 SERVICES TO 2,425 STUDENTS IN 39 CHARTER SCHOOLS LOCATED THROUGHOUT PHILADELPHIA AND CAMDEN, NJ. RELATED SERVICES INCLUDE PSYCHO EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENTS, SPEECH/LANGUAGE THERAPY, OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY, HEARING SERVICES, AND PHYSICAL THERAPY. A TOTAL PACKAGE OF SERVICES WHICH INCLUDES THE SPECIFIC SERVICES, CLINICAL SUPERVISION, SYSTEM CONSULTATION, AND RELATED SUPPORT SERVICES ARE PROVIDED TO THE CHARTER SCHOOLS.
CLINICAL AND COMMUNITY SERVICES DIVISIONS PROVIDE AN ARRAY OF SERVICES INCLUDING ASSESSMENT, PREVENTIVE COUNSELING/CASE MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS, ADOLESCENT/ADULT SUBSTANCE USE AND MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT AND INTERVENTION SERVICES, CRISIS PREGNANCY, TRUANCY PREVENTION/INTERVENTION AND AFTERSCHOOL SERVICES. CLIENTS INCLUDE CHILDREN, ADOLESCENTS AND FAMILIES EXPERIENCING A WIDE RANGE OF BEHAVIORAL ISSUES, MENTAL HEALTH AND SUBSTANCE USE/EXPOSURE CONCERNS AND FAMILY DISTRESS AS WELL AS THOSE ELIGIBLE FOR SAFE AFTERSCHOOL SERVICES. 928 YOUTH BEHAVIORAL ASSESSMENTS WERE COMPLETED FOR 87 PHILADELPHIA PUBLIC SHOOLS, 15 CHARTER SCHOOLS AND 9 ARCHDIOCESAN HIGH SCHOOLS. 89 FAMILIES WERE SERVED THROUGH FAMILY ADVOCATE PROGRAM. 75 FAMILIES SERVED UNDER THE TEEN INTERVENTION PROGRAM. 191 CLIENTS RECEIVED GENERAL MENTAL HEALTH OR PSYCHIATRY SUPPORT. 258 CLIENTS RECEIVED DRUG AND ALCOHOL TREATMENT AND RECOVERY SUPPORT. 81 YOUTH AGES 10-17 SERVED UNDER INTENSIVE PREVENTION SERVICES PROGRAM. OUT OF ALL CLIENTS SERVED IN FY20, 86% WERE UNDER AGE 18, 5% WERE BETWEEN AGES 18-21; ALMOST 90% ENDED SERVICE WITH POSITIVE SUCCESS RATINGS. MOST ARE SERVED THROUGH CORA INNOVATIVE INTERVENTION SERVICES TO MITIGATE ISSUES THAT WOULD LIKELY REQUIRE MORE EXPENSIVE TREATMENT IF LEFT UNATTENDED. 854 CHILDREN BENEFITTED FROM DHS LICENSED AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS IN FIVE COMMUNITY SCHOOL LOCATIONS AND TWO PA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION 21ST CENTURY COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTERS PROGRAMS. ACTIVITIES INCLUDE HOMEWORK ASSISTANCE, ENTREPRENEURIAL PROGRAMS, LITERACY ENHANCEMENT, STEM PROJECTS, AND SUPERVISED RECREATION AS WELL AS SPECIALIZED TEAM BUILDING AND YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS. 54 YOUTH PARTICIPATED IN THE WORK READY PROGRAM.
