Organizations Filed Purposes:
TO PROMOTE AND ENHANCE THE EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES AND SERVICES PROVIDED TO THE STUDENTS OF GIRARD COLLEGE (AN ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL) AND OTHER PHILADELPHIA AREA SCHOOLS BY RAISING FUNDS FROM THE ALUMNI AND FRIENDS FOR THESE INSTITUTIONS.
THE MIDDLE GRADES PARTNERSHIP (MGP) IS A YEAR-ROUND INTENSIVE LEARNING PROGRAM TO PREPARE RISING 6TH THROUGH 9TH-GRADE STUDENTS TO SUCCEED, BOTH ACADEMICALLY AND SOCIALLY IN HIGH SCHOOL, COLLEGE, AND BEYOND. THIS PROGRAM HAS A FOCUS ON DREEAMS (DIVERSITY, RESILIENCE, ENGLISH, ENGINEERING, ARTS, MATH, AND SCIENCE).THE SUMMER SESSION ALLOWS FOR A FIVE-WEEK PROGRAM COMBINING ACADEMIC AND ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES TO PROMOTE HOLISTIC GROWTH. THE PROJECT-BASED CURRICULUM ALLOWS STUDENTS TO GET OUT OF THEIR COMFORT ZONES AND CHALLENGED THEM TO WORK AS A TEAM. INSTRUCTORS WORK TO MAKE CONNECTIONS ACROSS THE CURRICULUM TO PREPARE STUDENTS FOR THE IMMERSION TRIP IN THE FINAL WEEK WHERE STUDENTS LEARN WILDERNESS SKILLS AND NAVIGATION TECHNIQUES WHILE ENCOUNTERING NEW PLACES ON THIS EXPEDITION.WITH DREEAMS AS THE THEME OF THE PROGRAM, STUDENTS ARE ABLE TO BUILD ON LANGUAGE ARTS AND ALGEBRA SKILLS, WHILE INTEGRATING CULTURAL COMPETENCE, CHARACTER EDUCATION, ENGINEERING, ARTS, CIVICS, AND SCIENCE. THE PROGRAM USES THE CONNECTED MATHEMATICS PROJECT (CMP) TO HELP STUDENTS UNDERSTAND THE FUNDAMENTAL IDEAS OF ARITHMETIC, GEOMETRY, DATA, MEASUREMENT, AND EARLY ALGEBRA. THE AFTER-SCHOOL PORTION OF THE PROGRAM ALLOWS TIME TO DIVE DEEPLY INTO MATHEMATICS WHILE FOSTERING VARIOUS APPROACHES TO LEARNING. GROWING STUDENTS' ABILITY TO WORK ON DIVERSE TEAMS AND SOLVE DYNAMIC PROBLEMS CREATES RESILIENCE IN THE FACE OF A RAPIDLY CHANGING WORLD. STUDENTS ALSO EXPLORE SERVICE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AND COMMUNITY EVENTS.
PENNSYLVANIA OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP TAX CREDIT PROGRAM:THE PROGRAM PROVIDES TAX CREDITS TO ELIGIBLE BUSINESSES CONTRIBUTING TO AN OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP ORGANIZATION. BUSINESS CONTRIBUTIONS ARE THEN USED BY OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP ORGANIZATIONS TO PROVIDE TUITION ASSISTANCE IN THE FORM OF SCHOLARSHIPS TO ELIGIBLE STUDENTS RESIDING WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF A LOW-ACHIEVING SCHOOL IN THE COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA TO ATTEND ANOTHER PUBLIC SCHOOL OUTSIDE OF THEIR DISTRICT OR NONPUBLIC SCHOOL. A LOW-ACHIEVING SCHOOL IS DEFINED AS A PUBLIC ELEMENTARY OR SECONDARY SCHOOL RANKING IN THE BOTTOM 15 PERCENT OF THEIR DESIGNATION AS AN ELEMENTARY OR SECONDARY SCHOOL BASED UPON COMBINED MATH AND READING PENNSYLVANIA SYSTEM OF SCHOOL ASSESSMENT (PSSA) SCORES.THE GIRARD COLLEGE FOUNDATION IS AN OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP ORGANIZATION AND USED THESE PROCEEDS TO PROVIDE APPROXIMATELY 70 PARTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDENTS THAT ATTENDED GIRARD COLLEGE DURING THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR.
PENNSYLVANIA EDUCATIONAL IMPROVEMENT TAX CREDIT PROGRAM:THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES TAX CREDITS TO ELIGIBLE BUSINESSES CONTRIBUTING TO SCHOLARSHIP ORGANIZATIONS AND/OR EDUCATIONAL IMPROVEMENT ORGANIZATIONS AND/OR PRE-K SCHOLARSHIPORGANIZATIONS CONTAINED ON A LIST PUBLISHED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. BUSINESS CONTRIBUTIONS ARE THEN USED BY SCHOLARSHIP ORGANIZATIONS AND/OR EDUCATIONAL IMPROVEMENT ORGANIZATIONS AND/OR PRE-K SCHOLARSHIP ORGANIZATIONS TO PROVIDE TUITION ASSISTANCE IN THE FORM OF SCHOLARSHIPS TO ELIGIBLE STUDENTS RESIDING WITHIN THE COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA.THE GIRARD COLLEGE FOUNDATION IS A SCHOLARSHIP ORGANIZATION AND USED THESE PROCEEDS TO PROVIDE APPROXIMATELY FIFTEEN (15) PARTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDENTS THAT ATTENDED GIRARD COLLEGE DURING THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR.
