Historic Germantown is a partnership of sixteen historical sites that have come together to protect, preserve and share some of Philadelphia's most prized historical assets. The organization functions as a visitor and community hub and works to incorporate historic sites into the life of the local community. The organization's keys programs include the Germantown Second Saturday Festival, coordinated in partnership with the local CDC; At Home in the Old German Township House Tour; Sustaining our Sites, an initiative aimed at raising funds for exterior repair projects at member sites; Kids Concerts in Market Square Park; Public Author and Reading Series; Elephants on the Avenue - Race, Class and Community in Historic Germantown (2015-2017) - Pew Center for Arts and Heritage funded community program using art as a catalyst for engagement and dialogue around issues of race and class, Culture Keepers Youth Program and a number of art and history public programs. Historic Germantown also assists with the administration of the award winning History Hunters Youth Reporter Program.
The Sustaining Our Site (SOS) fund was launched in 2014 to further the sustainability of all member sites and to draw the consortium sites together in collective development. The fund's mission is to pay for the preservation, repair, and maintenance projects of the members' sites.
On August 14, 2019, Historic Germantown, LLC (LLC), a Pennsylvania single member charitable LLC owned by Historic Germantown Preserved (HGP) was founded by CultureWorks Greater Philadelphia (CWP). On October 1, 2019, Germantown Historic Society (GHS) and HGP signed membership and management agreements with CWP, a Pennsylvania nonprofit. CWP is a community-based management commons that accounting, and human resources. The agreements include transferring HGP's key operating assets under the CWP's common management structure. The period from October 1 and December 31, 2019, was the transitional period to join the CWP's common management structure and GHS and HGP regranted $30,000 to LLC for support for the period October 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019.
