WE ARE A COMMUNITY BASED ORGANIZATION COMMITTED TO EMPOWERING AND SERVING CHILDREN, ADULTS, FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES TO ACHIEVE AND MAINTAIN SELF-SUFFICIENCY THROUGH AN INTERGRATED PROGRAM OF SOCIAL, EDUCATIONAL, AND ADVOCACY SERVICES.
A COMMUNITY BASED ORGANIZATION THAT SERVES VULNERABLE PEOPLE LIVING IN PHILADELPHIA. OUR PROGRAMS INCLUDE A WOMEN'S SHELTER, A SENIOR CENTER, A DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND MEDICAL ADVOCACY PROGRAM, A COUNSELING PROGRAM, A LITERACY PROGRAM, AN INTERGENERATIONAL FARM AND AN AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM.
JANE ADDAMS PLACE IS AN EMERGENCY SHELTER FOR FAMILIES EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS IN PHILADELPHIA, WITH UP TO 30 ADULTS AND 70 CHILDREN ON ANY GIVEN NIGHT. CASE MANAGEMENT AND TRAUMA THERAPY HELPS FAMILIES REBUILD THEIR LIVES AND PLAN FOR THE CHALLENGES OF LIFE AFTER SHELTER. IN COLLABORATION WITH NUMEROUS COMMUNITY PARTNERS, OUR STAFF PROVIDE VARIOUS HEALTH, EDUCATION, HOUSING, AND JOB READINESS PROGRAMS, INCLUDING DIGITAL LITERACY COURSES, RESUME WRITING AND INTERVIEW PREPARATION CLASSES, TEEN GROUPS AND TEEN SPECIFIC FIELD TRIPS, ARTS AND CULTURE CLASSES, PARENTING CLASSES, HEALTH AND DENTAL EDUCATION AND SERVICES, FINANCIAL LITERACY COURSES, MATCH SAVINGS, AND HOUSING SEARCH ASSISTANCE.
THE BILINGUAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROGRAM (BDVP)SERVES OVER 5,000 INDIVIDUALS A YEAR BY PROVIDING FREE, QUALITY SERVICES FOR VICTIMS AND SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC AND DATING ABUSE REGARDLESS OF GENDER OR SEXUAL ORIENTATION, ETHNICITY, AND RELIGIOUS AFFILIATION. SERVICES INCLUDE: A SAFE SPACE FOR IN-PERSON AND OVER-THE-PHONE CRISIS COUNSELING, ONGOING INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP COUNSELING, TRANSITIONAL HOUSING, AND ADVOCACY AND COUNSELING SPECIFICALLY FOR IMMIGRANT POPULATIONS. WE ALSO WORK WITH HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE A YEAR THROUGH PREVENTION AND EDUCATION WORK, INCLUDING STAR (STUDENTS TALKING ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS), OUR SIGNATURE HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP PROGRAM WITH TEENS, AS WELL AS THE MASCULINITY ACTION PROJECT, OUR PREVENTION INITIATIVE WITH MEN. BDVP ALSO HAS SPECIALIZED SERVICES BASED IN LOCAL HOSPITALS, INCLUDING EINSTEIN, CHOP, AND JEFFERSON.
3. LSH 'S SENIOR CENTER HAS PROVIDED SERVICES FOR VULNERABLE AND IMPOVERISHED OLDER ADULTS LIVING IN THE FISHTOWN-KENSINGTON-PORT RICHMOND AREA OF PHILADELPHIA FOR MORE THAN 39 YEARS. OUR SENIOR CENTER OFFERS A FULL SCHEDULE OF PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE FOR BASIC NUTRITIONAL AND SOCIAL NEEDS, AS WELL AS OPPORTUNITIES THAT PROMOTE INDEPENDENCE AND INDIVIDUAL WELLBEING. THE CENTER OFFERS HEALTH AND WELLNESS EDUCATION, ACCESS TO A FULL-TIME SOCIAL WORKER, PEER SUPPORT GROUPS, EXERCISE CLASSES INCLUDING TAI CHI, CHAIR YOGA, AND LINE DANCING, ARTS AND CRAFTS CLASSES, GAME AND MOVIE DAYS, AND DAY TRIPS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. WE ALSO HAVE A FULL-TIME SOCIAL WORKER FOR OUR CARES (CAREGIVERS REDUCING STRESS) PROGRAM, WHICH PROVIDES SUPPORT FOR INFORMAL, UNPAID CAREGIVERS OF OLDER ADULTS. TO MEET THE HUNGER AND NUTRITION NEEDS OF SENIORS AND FAMILIES IN THE COMMUNITY, WE ALSO HAVE AN EMERGENCY FOOD PANTRY, WEEKLY PRODUCE DISTRIBUTION, HOLIDAY FOOD DISTRIBUTION, AND NUTRITION AND COOKING CLASSES.
