PCDC provides bilingual, culturally sensative assistance and services to clients in Philadelphia's Chinatown neighborhood. PCDC assists community residents and businesses with, housing, youth programs, neighborhood planning and economic development.
Main Street Program - to enhance Chinatown's image as a commercial and tourist attraction, improve the quality of life for all visitors and residents of Chinatown and promote economic development and diversity in our community.
Planning and Devlopment - PCDC has represented Chinatown's neighborhood planning process through matters of zoning and urban renewal since 1966. This program of PCDC currently focuses in improving the physical streetscape in order to provide public space and improve the pedestrian environment. PCDC completed streetscaping efforts in Chinatown northm which included installation of new trees, sidewalks and pedestrian lights from Race to Callowhill Streets. PCDC is currently engaged in the Vine Street Expressway Multimodal Project which will reconnect the Chinatown neighborhoods.
Youth Programs - PCDC;s Teen Club reduces teen dropout rates and engages young people in the local community. The program offers SAT and college prep classes. PCDC also oversees the administration of several youth devlopment programs in the community, funded by the Department of Human Services. These programs include after school programs at the Chinese Christian Church and Center and the Chinatown Learning Center, as well as basketball and dance clubs.
