Organizations Filed Purposes:
TO SUPPORT AND SERVE IMMIGRANTS AND REFUGEES AND OTHER POLITICALLY, SOCIALLY AND ECONOMICALLY MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES AS THEY SEEK TO ADVANCE THE CONDITION OF THEIR LIVES IN THE UNITED STATES.
THE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT FOCUSES ON THE NEEDS OF PHILADELPHIA CHILDREN, YOUTH AND THEIR FAMILIES. SERVICES INCLUDE TRUANCY CASE MANAGEMENT, AFTER-SCHOOL AND SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS, AND YOUTH LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT. GOALS INCLUDE PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS ENGAGING IN PURSUIT OF OPPORTUNITIES WITH SCHOOL ACHIEVEMENTS, EMPLOYMENT, AND COMMUNITY PROJECTS. ADDITIONALLY, THE DEPARTMENT WORKS WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO ENSURE EQUITABLE ACCESS TO RESOURCES AND SUPPORT IN PUBLIC EDUCATION, COURTS, AND THE CHILD WELFARE SYSTEM.
THE HEALTH & SOCIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT FOCUSES ON THE NEEDS OF IMMIGRANT AND REFUGEE ADULTS, SENIORS, AND FAMILIES. IN FY 2019-2020, THERE WERE THREE PROGRAM UNITS WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT: 1) COMMUNITY & FAMILY WELLNESS PROGRAMS INCLUDED: THE SAFE FAMILIES PROGRAM (DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PREVENTION AND SUPPORT SERVICES); ELDERS HEALTH & WELLNESS; PUBLIC BENEFITS/HEALTH INSURANCE ENROLLMENT; AND HEALTH EDUCATION & ACCESS. 2) THE CIVIC ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM FOCUSED ON NONPARTISAN VOTER EDUCATION, REGISTRATION, AND PARTICIPATION, AS WELL AS CENSUS 2020 COMMUNITY EDUCATION AND ENGAGEMENT. 3) ADULT LITERACY & ACCESS PROGRAMS INCLUDED: DIGITAL LITERACY, DIGITAL NAVIGATION; ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE CLASSES; FAMILY LITERACY; AND NATURALIZATION.
THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT AIMS TO BUILD COMMUNITY CONNECTEDNESS, POWER, & PROSPERITY BY IMPROVING AND IMPLEMENTING THE PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT IN SOUTH PHILADELPHIA THROUGH COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, STRENGTHENING BUSINESSES & SHOPPING ON 7TH STREET, CONNECTING TO ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES, PRESERVING AFFORDABLE HOUSING & ENSURING THAT CURRENT RESIDENTS ARE INTEGRAL IN THE DEVELOPMENT & BENEFIT FROM IT. THE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT'S PROGRAMS BUILD LOCAL CAPACITY AND COMMUNITY STEWARDSHIP OF THE PUBLIC SPACES. THE PROGRAM STRIVES TO ESTABLISH A STRONG NEIGHBORHOOD COALITION WITH AN EMPHASIS ON SUPPORTING LOCAL BUSINESSES IN THE COMMERCIAL CORRIDOR TO STRENGTHEN THE NEIGHBORHOODS AS A DIVERSE, SAFE AND WELCOMING PLACE TO LIVE, WORK AND PLAY. SINCE THE PANDEMIC AND SHUTDOWNS HIT, SEAMAAC STAFF WERE ABLE TO MITIGATE SOME OF THE IMPACT ON THE SMALL BUSINESSES ON THE SOUTH 7TH STREET COMMERCIAL CORRIDOR. MANY SMALL BUSINESSES WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO APPLY FOR FUNDING SUPPORT DUE TO LANGUAGE, TECHNOLOGY OR ORGANIZATION WITHOUT A LOT OF HELP FROM SEAMAAC.
