MileUpStudents Run Philly Style added an Associate Director, Youth Diversion Initiative who was charged with managing the new 2020 MileUp youth diversion program. SRPS spent a considerable amount of time working with the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office to design and build the procedures and policies for the MileUp program. Marathon Model teamsMarathon Model teams completed their season with a successful Philadelphia Marathon weekend (over 600 participants across the weekend) for their final races of the season and their longest distances to date. Marathon model teams also had a handful of younger students participate in the Rothman 8K run alongside hundreds of students from the School Year Model teams. Despite Sunday's rainy and windy weather, several students ran personal best times and showed great team spirit. Teams celebrated their accomplishments at the 2019 Marathon Appreciation Event on December 14. To support students in their training, Students Run Philly Style partnered again in 2019 with Philadelphia Runner and the Philadelphia Marathon to co-host the All-City 20/10-Miler on November 2. The program staff recorded times for students at this training run, designed to be students' last long run before Philadelphia Marathon weekend. The program requires students to "qualify" to be registered for the marathon and half marathon by maintaining a minimum of a 15-minute mile pace at the All-City 20/10 Miler. All students participating in the All-City run qualified to be registered for the events. Over the summer, students and leaders had the opportunity to earn entry to the Rock 'N' Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon or 7.76K race by logging a goal number of miles in the program's online enrollment system, CourseMap. More than 120 students and leaders completed Rock 'N' Roll races Sunday, September 15 as part of their training for Philadelphia Marathon weekend. Marathon Model teams also received new Diadora sneakers and shirts shortly after Rock 'N' Roll weekend. Teams also participated an other road races including the Philly Style 8K and the Broad Street Run (over 1000 students completed this race).Number of active teams: 31Number of active students (January - present): 927Number of active Running Leaders (January - present): 237 School Year Model teamsSchool Year Model teams started their season in September and completed their first race of the year at the Rothman 8K. This year's School Year Model enrollment included several new teams, making the group the largest the program has ever fielded at the Rothman 8K at more than 500 youth participating. Students and leaders earned new Diadora shoes in October, and received new Diadora program shirts ahead of their first race of the year. To onboard new and returning teams, the program held team-based trainings for each School Year Model team, led by the Associate Director of Mentoring and Training. Leaders prepared for the season by thinking through how the program's format and guidelines would be applied in their school's setting. Students Run Philly Style's AmeriCorps Up2Us Coach further supported the upstart of new School Year Model teams by visiting new teams and guiding practices in October and November. New teams include groups based at the following schools: Potter-Thomas School, Mastery Harrity Upper Campus, Philadelphia Charter School for Arts and Sciences, Blankenburg Elementary, ASPIRA Olney Charter High School. These teams participated in the Cooper Norcross Run the Bridge 10K on November 3 and the Rothman 8K alongside Students Run Philly Style students. This year marked the largest group of Camden participants in both races, with more than 55 runners in the Rothman 8K and more than 45 runners in the Run the Bridge 10K. The SIRC evaluation is designed to collect information needed for reporting for the PA Department of Health grant, which began in February 2018 and ends in June 2020. SIRC worked with Students Run Philly Style to collect pre-season survey data for the School Year Model in September and October, and post-season survey data for the Marathon Model at All-City 20/10-Miler on November 2. Dr. Jones shared the results of the School Year Model season survey in August and is currently working with the staff to compare the results from both seasons. This fall, the team focused extensively on data collection, obtaining survey responses from 75% of School Year Model participants, which sets the stage for thorough program evaluation at the end of the 2019-2020 School Year Model season. Youth DevelopmentStudents Run Philly Style hosted its annual mentor training in January 2019 in a new format, including an open conference for youth development professionals. This day-long Leader Conference included breakout sessions on topics such as creating safe spaces, mentoring Black and Brown youth, and youth leadership development. Students Run Philly Style also hosted its annual Leadership Summit, a three-day overnight retreat for 100 youth and mentors, in June 2019. The program also hosted a summer series of running workshops around the themes of Reasons Why We Run, including Recreation, Unity and iNspiration.
