Organizations Filed Purposes: the World Meeting of Families ("WMOF") was conceived by Saint Pope John Paul II in 1992 to explore the critical role the family plays in society and to provide families the opportunities to discuss the challenges and blessings that all families share. The primary goal of the WMOF is to strengthen the sacred bonds of family unity across the globe. The first WMOF event took place in 1994, the International year of the family. Every three years since 1994, families from all over the world are invited by the Holy Father to attend this global gathering. At the conference, families share their thoughts, dialogue and prayers, working together to grow as individuals and family units. Families participate in discussion groups of the Christian family's role in the church and society, led by many distinguished speakers. Past WMOF locations have included Rome, Italy; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Manila, Philippines; Valencia, Spain; Mexico City, Mexico; and Milan Italy. Philadelphia, United States, a c
