GOOD SAMARITAN SERVICES GIVES IMMEDIATE HELP TO PEOPLE WHO ARE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS, AND HELPS THOSE AT RISK OF BECOMING HOMELESS, BY RESTORING THEIR LIVES TO STABILITY. WE ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY TO SUPPORT THESE EFFORTS.

CHESTER COUNTY EMERGENCY SHELTER PROGRAM IS A 10-BED SHELTER FOR HOMELESS MEN. PARTICIPANTS RECEIVE A 45-DAY RESIDENCY AND ARE OFFERED THREE MEALS PER DAY. HIGHLIGHTS FROM 2019-2020 FISCAL YEAR: PROVIDED SHELTER FOR 45 MEN, 25% WERE EMPLOYED AT ANY LEVEL WHEN THEY ARRIVED, 60% FOUND EMPLOYMENT WHILE IN THE PROGRAM, PROVIDED OVER 9,000 MEALS TO EMERGENCY SHELTER PARTICIPANTS. ADDITIONALLY, HELPED THE COMMUNITY BY FIELDING OVER 200 PHONE CALLS FROM INDIVIDUALS LOOKING FOR ASSISTANCE. HELPED PEOPLE LOCATE AFFORDABLE HOUSING OPTIONS, THEREBY PREVENTING HOMELESSNESS IN SOME CASES. 100% OF PARTICIPANTS WOULD RECOMMEND GOOD SAMARITAN SERVICES TO A PERSON IN NEED.
HOUSING SUPPORT SERVICES (HSS) OFFERS HELP TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES ACROSS LANCASTER & CHESTER COUNTIES THAT ARE IN THE EVICTION PROCESS, AT RISK OF BECOMING HOMELESS, OR CURRENTLY HOMELESS. 142 PEOPLE WERE SERVED IN HSS DURING THE 2019-2020 FISCAL YEAR. WE PROVIDED OVER $66,000 IN RENTAL ASSISTANCE AND OTHER SUPPORT DURING THIS TIME PERIOD TO HELP INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES ACHIEVE HOUSING STABILITY. IN ADDITION TO RENTAL SUPPORT, OUR STAFF PROVIDES CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES TO HELP THE FAMILIES BUILD STABILITY AND RESILIENCY.
CHESTER COUNTY TRANSITIONAL HOUSING AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING PROGRAMS ARE COMPRISED OF 6 HOMES, SERVING 38 MEN. PARTICIPANTS RECEIVE CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES AND ARE EXPECTED TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE UPKEEP OF THE HOME, IN ORDER TO PRACTICE LIFE SKILLS NEEDED TO LIVE ON THEIR OWN. MANY PARTICIPANTS OF THESE PROGRAMS HAVE MOVED IN FROM THE EMERGENCY SHELTER PROGRAM. HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE 2019-2020 FISCAL YEAR: PROVIDED HOUSING TO 38 MEN, 100% OF PARTICIPANTS WOULD RECOMMEND GOOD SAMARITAN SERVICES TO A PERSON IN NEED, 60% OF PARTICIPANTS LEAVING THE PROGRAM MOVED INTO INDEPENDENT HOUSING, WITH FAMILY, OR WERE PROMOTED TO LIVE-IN STAFF POSITION AT GOOD SAMARITAN SERVICES. PARTICIPANTS OF PHOENIXVILLE EMERGENCY SHELTER, TRANSITIONAL HOUSING AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING PROGRAMS ARE OFFERED HELP IN BUDGETING, CREDIT REPAIR, RESUME WRITING, JOB SEARCHING AND COMPUTER TRAINING. PARTICIPANTS ALSO RECEIVE HELP FROM OUR FINANCIAL STABILITY PROGRAMS (MATCHED SAVINGS AND MICROLOAN).
