LENDING BY BRIDGEWAY CAPITAL BENEFITED LOW-INCOME PEOPLE AND ASSISTED IN THE FORMATION AND GROWTH OF SMALL BUSINESSES AND NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS IN LOW- TO MODERATE-INCOME COMMUNITIES ACROSS 15 COUNTIES IN WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA. 125 BORROWERS RECEIVED LOANS TOTALING $14.5 MILLION, WHICH LEVERAGED $11.6 MILLION IN ADDITIONAL FINANCING. BORROWERS RANGED FROM ENTREPRENEURS STARTING THEIR FIRST BUSINESS TO ESTABLISHED BUSINESSES EXPANDING OPERATIONS AND DEVELOPING THEIR JOB BASE, TO NON-PROFITS PROVIDING CRITICAL SOCIAL SERVICES AND ORGANIZATIONS FOCUSED ON REVITALIZING DISTRESSED COMMUNITIES. THE ECONOMIC IMPACT OF THIS LENDING IS PROJECTED TO HELP CREATE 774 JOBS. ADDITIONALLY, BRIDGEWAY SUPPORTED BORROWERS DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC BY PROVIDING DEBT RELIEF IN THE FORM OF 238 LOAN MODIFICATIONS AND GRANTS TOTALING $645,811 TO 68 BORROWERS THAT ARE ENTERPRISES OWNED BY PEOPLE OF COLOR, WOMEN, OR LOCATED IN LOW-TO-MODERATE INCOME AREAS.
THE CREATIVE BUSINESS ACCELERATOR (CBA) AT BRIDGEWAY CAPITAL HELPS ENTREPRENEURIAL CRAFTSPEOPLE, MAKERS, DESIGNERS, AND ARTISTS EMERGE AS ALLIES IN REGIONAL EQUITABLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. THE CBA PROVIDES THESE CREATIVE BUSINESSES WITH BETTER ACCESS TO ELEMENTS OF BUSINESS SUCCESS: SPACE, CAPITAL, PEERS, MARKETS, GUIDANCE, AND WORKFORCE. SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 2016, THE CBA FACILITATED OVER $2.5 MILLION IN SALES FOR CREATIVE BUSINESSES AND HELPED BRIDGEWAY FINANCE AND PROVIDE GRANT SUPPORT FOR $3.5 MILLION IN PROJECTS. WHEN THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC HIT, THE CBA INVESTED $332,500 AS LOANS AND GRANTS TO 10 CREATIVE BUSINESSES AND SMALL MANUFACTURERS TO RETOOL AND PRODUCE PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT TO COMBAT COVID-19. WHEN CREATIVE BUSINESSES ACCESS RESOURCES AND OPPORTUNITY, THEIR GROWTH EXPANDS AND DIVERSIFIES THE REGIONAL ECONOMY. THEY CREATE JOBS, REACTIVATE INDUSTRIAL SPACES, REVITALIZE MAIN STREETS, AND ENHANCE PITTSBURGH'S NATIONAL REPUTATION AS A DYNAMIC, 21ST-CENTURY CITY.
BRIDGEWAY CAPITAL EDUCATED AND ASSISTED CURRENT AND POTENTIAL BORROWERS WITH 2,250 HOURS OF ONE-ON-ONE BUSINESS SKILL ASSESSMENTS AND COACHING, TUITION ASSISTANCE FOR INSTRUCTIONAL AND MANAGEMENT SKILLS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS, AND OTHER FORMS OF ASSISTANCE TO HELP THEM MANAGE AND GROW THEIR BUSINESSES. THE EDUCATION HAS HELPED TO IMPROVE BORROWERS' FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT, BUSINESS STRATEGY, AND OTHER BUSINESS OPERATIONS, AND HAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA. BRIDGEWAY CAPITAL ALSO CONTINUED TO PROVIDE PROFESSIONAL REAL ESTATE CONSULTING SERVICES, FREE OF CHARGE, TO NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS SEEKING ADVICE REGARDING THEIR FACILITY NEEDS AND CHALLENGES. IN COLLABORATION WITH THE PA CDFI NETWORK, BRIDGEWAY CAPITAL PROVIDED APPLICATION ASSISTANCE AND FACILITATED OVER $22 MILLION IN GRANTS FOR IN EXCESS OF 1,300 HISTORICALLY DISADVANTAGED BUSINESSES AND MAIN STREET BUSINESSES WITH THE COVID-19 RELIEF PENNSYLVANIA STATEWIDE BUSINESS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM.
