Apraxia Kids is the leading nonprofit that strengthens the support systems in the lives of children with apraxia of speech by educating professionals and families; facilitating community engagement and outreach; and investing in the future through advocacy and research.
During this period, 51,000 members joined our support groups supporting one another, sharing resources and utilizing our educational materials. We enhanced our website with more downloadable content, allowing for easier access to our free resources with 1.5 million website views. We developed free online education modules for school based speech language pathologists, removing the financial burden and barriers for access.Our annual conference was postponed due to COVID-19. In its place, a Virtual Education Series was created with 21 hours of live and pre-recorded sessions from speakers who would have been part of our in-person conference experience. This free resource with 53,000 views since July, provides education for our entire apraxia community when in-person events were not possible. We continue to find ways to invest in community outreach developing statewide resources for our families. Our national Walk for Apraxia events went virtual in 2020 helping to raise awareness and donations in 87 cities with over 6,000 participants. We continued our speech tablet program, distributing speech tablets and protective cases to children from low to moderate income families. Apraxia kids continues to support research assisting researchers throughout the world to recruit subjects for their apraxia research studies.
