CRISIS CENTER NORTH (CCN) IS A NON-PROFIT COUNSELING, REFERRAL, AND EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE CENTER SERVING VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE (DV),THEIR CHILDREN, AND TEENS INVOLVED IN VIOLENT DATING RELATIONSHIPS IN THE NORTHERN AND WESTERN COMMUNITIES OF ALLEGHENY COUNTY. SERVICES EXTEND THROUGHOUT 26 PRIMARY ZIP CODES IN ALLEGHENY COUNTY TO ANY INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.SERVICES INCLUDE: A 24-HOUR HOTLINE; A TEXT/CHAT LINE; INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP COUNSELING FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN; MOBILE COUNSELING; CASE-MANAGEMENT SERVICES; ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT AND MICRO LOAN SERVICES; COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAMS (TO EMPLOYERS, CHURCHES, AND COMMUNITY GROUPS); PRIMARY PREVENTION PROGRAMS (TO LOCAL SCHOOLS, HOSPITALS, AND LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES); LEGAL ADVOCACY (PROVIDING VICTIM ASSISTANCE IN THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM); MEDICAL ADVOCACY (PROVIDING HOSPITAL ACCOMPANIEMENT AND 24-HOUR ON-CALL SERVICES); MICRO LOAN PROGRAMMING TO HELP VICTIMS ESTABLISH ECONOMIC INDEPENDENCE (THE FIRST PROGRAM FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS IN PA'S DOMESTIC VIOLENCE MOVEMENT); THE PAWS FOR EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM, THE STATE'S FIRST COMPREHENSIVE CANINE ADVOCACY PROGRAM PROVIDING ANIMAL ASSISTED THERAPY AND CANINE COURT SERVICES IN PENNSYLVANIA. CCN'S PAWS FOR EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM WAS RECOGNIZED AS ONE OF THE FOUR MOST INNOVATIVE PRACTICES IN PENNSYLVANIA AND RECEIVED A GOVERNOR'S AWARD FOR PA'S MOST INNOVATIVE PROGRAM IN 2017. IN 2020, THE LEAD CANINE, PENNY, WAS A NATIONAL AMERICAN HERO DOG NOMINEE. LAST YEAR, CCN ESTABLISHED ITS FIRST HOUSING PROGRAM, THE "DV UP" RAPID RE-HOUSING PROGRAM (PROMOTING ACCOUNTIBILITY AND SELF SUFFICIENCY THROUGH PERMANENT AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING). CCN'S SERVICES HAVE BEEN RECOGNIZED ON THE STATEWIDE LEVEL IN 2019, CCN'S ADULT COUNSELOR RECEIVED THE GOVERNOR'S SURVIVOR ACTIVIST AWARD. CCN HAS CONTINUOUSLY PROVIDED FREE SERVICES TO THE NORTHERN AND WESTERN AREAS OF ALLEGHENY COUNTY FOR 42 YEARS, RESULTING IN A PROGRAM THAT IS DEEPLY ROOTED WITHIN THE COMMUNITY. IN FY 19/20, CCN PROVIDED DIRECT SERVICES TO 2,034 SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND THEIR CHILDREN, A 16% INCREASE IN UNDUPLICATED CLIENTS SERVED FROM THE PERVIOUS FISCAL YEAR. INDIVIDUAL CLIENT SERVICE HOURS REACHED 6,079, A 97% INCREASE FROM THE PREVIOUS FISCAL YEAR, WHILE TOTAL SERVICE HOURS FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH INCREASED BY A STAGGERING 275% OVER THE PRIOR YEAR. IN ADDITION, CCN RECORDED A 35% INCREASE IN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE RELATED CALLS RECEIVED THROUGH THE AGENCY'S 24/7 CRISIS HOTLINE, WHILE LEGAL SERVICES (E.G., ASSISTANCE WITH PROTECTION FROM ABUSE (PFA) ORDERS; COURTROOM ACCOMPANIEMENT; AND, FOLLOW-UPS) TO OVER 1,000 CLIENTS. THIS INCREASE IN DEMAND FOR DV SERVICES UNDERSCORES THE CRITICAL NEEDS THAT VICTIMS AND THEIR CHILDREN FACE DURING THE ONGOING COVID-19 PANDEMIC, AS VICTIMS ARE FORCED TO ISOLATE WITH THEIR ABUSERS. IN ADDITION, CCN'S COMMUNITY BASED EDUCATION PROGRAM REACHED 950 COMMUNITY MEMBERS. OUR PREVENTION PROGRAMMING REACHED 12 DIFFERENT DISTRICTS OR PRIVATE SCHOOLS IN THE COMMUNITY, SPREADING THE MESSAGE TO 11,614 STUDENTS. FINALLY, THE ORGANIZATION'S MEDICAL ADVOCACY PROGRAM OFFERED TRAINING TO 2,722 INDIVIDUALS IN THE HEALTHCARE FIELD. CCN'S 24-HOUR HOTLINE AND TALK CHAT LINE STAFFED BY VOLUNTEERS PROVIDES ROUND-THE-CLOCK ACCESS TO CRISIS COUNSELING AND IS A DIRECT CONNECTION TO 24-HOUR ON CALL ADVOCACY SERVICES PROVIDED BY CCN'S ADVOCACY TEAM. CCN PROVIDES ALL SERVICES FREE OF CHARGE TO OUR CLIENTS, REACHING OVER 2,000 CLIENTS ANNUALLY. ADDITIONALLY, THE ORGANIZATION PARTNERS WITH A NUMBER OF LOCAL SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES TO ENSURE THAT ALL CLIENT NEEDS ARE MET BEYOND THOSE PROVIDED BY OUR AGENCY. THE ORGANIZATION PLACES A HIGH PRIORITY ON THE WISE UTILIZATION OF GOVERNMENTAL, FOUNDATION, AND PRIVATE RESOURCES, THUS AVOIDING ANY UNECESSARY DUPLICATION OF SERVICES. CCN HAS BEEN A MEMBER PROGRAM OF THE PENNSYLVANIA COALITION AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE (PCADV), SINCE ITS INCORPORATION. THE COALITION IS A STATEWIDE ORGANIZATION OF 60 COMMUNITY-BASED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROGRAMS. PCADV ENSURES MEMBER ORGANIZATIONS MAINTAIN THE HIGHEST STANDARDS, WHILE PROVIDING PATHWAYS TO SAFETY AND JUSTICE FOR VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN AN EFFORT TO END THE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE EPIDEMIC IN PENNSYLVANIA.
