THE MISSION OF THE HOMEWOOD CHILDREN'S VILLAGE IS TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF HOMEWOOD'S CHILDREN AND TO SIMULTANEOUSLY REWEAVE THE FABRIC OF THE COMMUNITY IN WHICH THEY LIVE.
YOUTH AND FAMILY SERVICES- PROGRAMS HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED TO SUPPORT CHILD AND COMMUNITY HEALTH, AS WELL AS TO DEVELOP AND MONITOR INDIVIDUALIZED ACTION PLANS AND HELP STUDENTS ACHIEVE EMOTIONAL, ENVIRONMENTAL, FINANCIAL, INTELLECTUAL, OCCUPATIONAL, PHYSICAL, AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT. HCV'S AMERICORPS TEAM AND ADVOCATES PLAY A CENTRAL ROLE IN CONNECTING STUDENTS AND FAMILIES TO SERVICES AND THEY ALSO ENSURE THAT RESOURCES MAKE THEIR WAY TO STUDENTS. THROUGH THE BRIDGE PROGRAM, HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE ENGAGED IN AFTER SCHOOL AND/OR SUMMER PROGRAMMING THAT PROMOTE COLLEGE AND WORKFORCE READINESS AND BUILDS A STRONG FOUNDATION FOR POST-SECONDARY SUCCESS.
EDUCATION- HCV SUPPORTS THE WORK OF THE LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT AND OTHER EDUCATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS. THE EDUCATION TEAM PROVIDES DIRECT AND INDIRECT EDUCATIONAL SERVICES TO ADVANCE THE LEARNING OF STUDENTS IN HOMEWOOD. THIS TEAM ALSO WORKS VERY CLOSELY WITH LOCAL PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS WHO SPECIALIZE IN VARIOUS IN AND OUT OF SCHOOL TIME ACTIVITIES TO INCREASE ENGAGEMENT AND LEARNING. FULL SERVICE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS ARE PART OF THIS WORK; FOCUSING ON IMPROVING STUDENT ATTENDANCE, MONITORING THE INNER WELLBEING OF STUDENTS THROUGHOUT THE DAY, AND TUTORING, MENTORING, AND ADVOCATING ON BEHALF OF CHILDREN. HCV OPERATES IN THE SCHOOLS OF PITTSBURGH FAISON (K-5), PITTSBURGH LINCOLN (PREK-5), AND WESTINGHOUSE ACADEMY (6-12).
RESEARCH AND INNOVATION- THE OFFICE OF RESEARCH AND EVALUATION (ORE) TRACKS AND ANALYZES THE IMPACTS OF HCV CORE SERVICES, THE EFFECTIVENESS OF HCV'S ORGANIZATIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE, AND PERFORMANCE OF HCV'S PARTNERSHIPS. THIS IS DONE THROUGH PROGRAM DESIGN, LOGIC MODEL SUPPORT, AND DATA ANALYSIS AND EVALUATION. THE ORGANIZATION IS DATA DRIVEN ALLOWING FOR ANALYSES TO BE USED FOR PROGRAM DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT, WHICH SPURS CONTINUAL GROWTH. ORE ALSO SUPPORTS THE DATA AND WORK OF MANY OF OUR PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS, ENCOURAGING IMPROVEMENT AND DEEPER IMPACT. THE ORGANIZATION UTILIZES A "SKUNK WORKS(C)" METHODOLOGY TO DEVELOP TOOLS AND APPROACHES THAT HELP REALIZE HOMEWOOD CHILDREN'S VILLAGES GOALS AND TO GENERATE EARNED REVENUES BASED ON COLLABORATIVE INNOVATION.
