MAINSTAY LIFE SERVICES (MAINSTAY) HAS PROVIDED RESIDENTIAL AND RELATED SUPPORTS TO CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES, AND THEIR FAMILIES, FOR 50 YEARS. CURRENTLY, THE ORGANIZATION IS SUPPORTING 372 PEOPLE THROUGH 24-HOUR FULL-CARE HOMES, SEMI-INDEPENDENT LIVING, SUPPORTED LIVING, HOME AND COMMUNITY SUPPORTS, LIFESHARING, BEHAVIORAL SUPPORTS, EMPLOYMENT SERVICES, AND A SUMMER RESPITE PROGRAM.MAINSTAY OPERATES 39 COMMUNITY HOMES AND 21 APARTMENTS, WHICH SUPPORT 134 ADULTS. THE ORGANIZATION OWNS THE MAJORITY OF THESE RESIDENCES, WHICH INCLUDE SEVERAL SPECIALIZED HOMES DESIGNED FOR THOSE WITH BEHAVIORAL HEALTH ISSUES, PHYSICAL HANDICAPS, AUTISM, AND DIMINISHING PHYSICAL CAPACITY AND INCREASING MEDICAL NEEDS DUE TO AGING. MAINSTAY ALSO OPERATES SIX COMMUNITY HOMES SUPPORTING ADULTS WITH PRADER-WILLI SYNDROME, A RARE GENETIC DISORDER.LIFESHARING OFFERS AN ALTERNATIVE TO TRADITIONAL COMMUNITY LIVING ARRANGEMENTS. THE PROGRAM INVOLVES WORKING WITH FAMILIES OR SINGLE PERSONS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN OPENING THEIR HOMES AND LIVES TO A PERSON WITH A DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITY. IN ADDITION, ONE CAN BECOME A LIFESHARING PROVIDER FOR A FAMILY MEMBER. LIFESHARING ENHANCES AND ENRICHES THE LIVES OF THOSE NEEDING SERVICES AND OFFERS THEM THE CHANCE TO LIVE WITH A FAMILY WHO WILL SUPPORT THEIR NEEDS AND DESIRES FOR AN EVERYDAY LIFE. MAINSTAY PROVIDES BEHAVIORAL SUPPORTS THAT PROMOTE THE BEHAVIORAL, EMOTIONAL AND SOCIAL WELL-BEING OF THE INDIVIDUALS WE SERVE AND THEIR SUPPORT SYSTEMS. MAINSTAY'S BEHAVIORAL SUPPORTS PROGRAM UTILIZES THE PHILOSOPHY OF TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE WITH THE APPROACH OF APPLIED BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS AND POSITIVE SUPPORTS. VIEWING AN INDIVIDUAL THROUGH THEIR TRAUMA HISTORY, EXPERIENCES AND BACKGROUNDS LENDS ITSELF TO MORE PERSONALIZED CARE. IN OTHER WORDS, WE TREAT THE PERSON, NOT THE DIAGNOSIS.MAINSTAY'S SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES HELP PEOPLE FIND A CAREER THAT INCREASES THEIR FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE WHILE ALSO PROVIDING A SENSE OF BELONGING WITHIN THE COMMUNITY. WITH THE SMALL STAFF-TO-PERSON RATIO, EVERY PERSON RECEIVES DIRECT ATTENTION AND GUIDANCE BASED ON THEIR INDIVIDUAL VOCATIONAL INTERESTS. STAFF ENSURES CONTINUED SUCCESS WHILE ON THE JOB THROUGH THE USE OF VARIOUS COACHING TECHNIQUES, AS WELL AS WORKING DIRECTLY WITH THE EMPLOYER. MAINSTAY SEES THE POTENTIAL IN ALL OF THOSE SUPPORTED AND IS COMMITTED TO HELPING THEM FULFILL MEANINGFUL ROLES IN THEIR COMMUNITIES AND IN THE WORKPLACE.THE SUMMER RESPITE AND RECREATION PROGRAM AND HOME AND COMMUNITY SUPPORTS ARE AVAILABLE TO THOSE WHO ARE LIVING AT HOME WITH THEIR BIOLOGICAL FAMILIES, BY THEMSELVES, OR WITH A HOST FAMILY. THE SUMMER PROGRAM SERVES 85 ADULTS ANNUALLY, MEETS A VITAL COMMUNITY NEED AND IS UNDUPLICATED IN WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA. HOME AND COMMUNITY SUPPORTS PROVIDE SERVICES TO 120 ADULTS AND CHILDREN WHO DESIRE TO LIVE IN THEIR OWN HOME OR IN THEIR FAMILY HOME AND NEED ASSISTANCE TO DO SO.ALL SUPPORTS PROVIDED ARE PERSON-CENTERED AND TAILORED TO MEET THE NEEDS OF EACH PERSON AND ALL LEVELS OF DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES. MAINSTAY ASSISTS PEOPLE WITH LIVING MEANINGFUL AND SUCCESSFUL LIVES WHILE HELPING THEM TO LEARN NEW SKILLS, DEVELOP FRIENDSHIPS, AND GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY.
