THE MISSION OF THE MENDELSSOHN CHOIR OF PITTSBURGH IS TO ACHIEVE REGIONAL PREEMINENCE AND A NATIONAL REPUTATION FOR ARTISTIC EXCELLENCE AS AN INDEPENDENT, SYMPHONIC ENSEMBLE EXPLORING AND ADVANCING THE CHORAL ART TO ENGAGE AND INSPIRE SINGERS AND LISTENERS OF ALL AGES.

PSO PARTNERSHIPTHE MENDELSSOHN CHOIR OF PITTSBURGH (MCP) HAS A LONGSTANDING AND SUCCESSFUL ARTISTIC PARTNERSHIP WITH THE PITTSBURGH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA (PSO) THAT HAS ENDURED FOR ALMOST 95 YEARS. TOGETHER THEY HAVE BROUGHT THE JOYS OF SYMPHONIC CHORAL MUSIC TO HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF INDIVIDUALS IN THE GREATER PITTSBURGH REGION AND ON TOUR. IN THE 2018-2019 SEASON, MCP PERFORMED 9 CONCERTS OF 22 PERFORMANCES WITH THE PSO FOR A TOTAL ATTENDANCE OF 44,700. PERFORMANCES OF MCP WITH THE PSO ARE HEARD OVER WQED-FM AND LATER BROADCAST BY PUBLIC RADIO INTERNATIONAL (PRI). A VERY SPECIAL CONCERT "PEACE & UNITY" DONE IN REMEMBRANCE OF THE TREE OF LIFE SYNAGOGUE TRAGEDY WAS AIRED NATIONALLY BY THE CORPORATION FOR PUBLIC BROADCASTING AND LOCALLY OVER WQED-TV.

SELF-PRODUCED PROGRAMMINGMCP REACHES AUDIENCES BEYOND THE PSO SYMPHONY HALL THROUGH ITS SELF-PRODUCED CONCERT PROGRAMMING. BOLD PROGRAMMING COMBINED WITH INTRIGUING PARTNERSHIPS WITH ARTISTS AND VENUES IS RE-INVENTING CHORAL MUSIC FOR THE 21ST CENTURY TO BRING NEW AUDIENCES TO THE ART FORM. IN THE 2018-2019 SEASON, MCP PRODUCED TWO PRODUCTIONS (5 PERFORMANCES) REACHING 2,527 AUDIENCE MEMBERS IN THE REGION THROUGH PERFORMANCES IN MULTIPLE PITTSBURGH NEIGHBORHOODS, GROVE CITY, AND MORGANTOWN, WV. ADDITIONALLY, MCP PERFORMED WITH ANDREA BOCELLI IN DECEMBER AT PPG ARENA TO A CROWD OF 18,000.

JUNIOR MENDELSSOHN CHOIR OF PITTSBURGHMCP IS ACTIVELY ENGAGED IN TRAINING THE NEXT GENERATION OF SINGERS BY PROVIDING TALENTED, REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH WITH PROFESSIONAL LEVEL VOCAL AND CHORAL ENSEMBLE TRAINING THROUGH THE JUNIOR MENDELSSOHN CHOIR OF PITTSBURGH (JMCP). FOLLOWING AN INTENSIVE, WEEKLY INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM, THE JMCP GAVE A COMMUNITY CONCERT IN NOVEMBER AT THIRD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (300 ATTENDANCE), AND PERFORMED AS PART OF MCP'S PERFORMANCE OF "LET MY PEOPLE GO" AT EBENEZER BAPTIST CHURCH IN FEBRUARY (871 ATTENDANCE).
