PIRATES CHARITIES PLACES A SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON THREE CORE AREAS OF HELPING: TO BETTER THE LIVES OF YOUTH THROUGH HEALTH, FITNESS AND EDUCATION INITIATIVES, ASSIST CURRENT AND FORMER MILITARY PERSONNEL AND THEIR FAMILIES, AND SUPPORT THOSE AFFECTED BY CANCER.
STRENGTHEN THE COMMUNITY BY SUPPORTING ORGANIZATIONS AIMED AT IMPROVING YOUTH & ADULT LIVES.
YOUTH BASEBALL. THE PITTSBURGH RBI (REVIVING BASEBALL IN INNER CITIES) PROGRAM INCLUDES MORE THAN 1,000 AREA YOUTH IN COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT THE GREATER PITTSBURGH REGION. IN ADDITION TO PROVIDING PLAYING OPPORTUNITIES TO THESE YOUTH, PIRATES CHARITIES WORKS TO GROW THE GAME OF BASEBALL BY HOSTING SKILLS AND COACHING CLINICS, DONATING EQUIPMENT TO A VARIETY OF LOCAL BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL PROGRAMS, AND IMPROVING PLAYING FIELDS THROUGH THE FIELDS FOR KIDS MATCHING GRANT PROGRAM. FIELDS FOR KIDS PROVIDES FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO IMPROVE YOUTH BASEBALL AND/OR SOFTBALL FACILITIES VIA MATCHING GRANTS TO NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNITS THAT OPERATE BASEBALL AND/OR SOFTBALL PROGRAMS.
YOUTH EDUCATION. PIRATES CHARITIES WORKS WITH LOCAL EDUCATORS TO MAKE LEARNING FUN FOR STUDENTS BY CONNECTING IT TO THE GAME OF BASEBALL. THIS INCLUDES PROVIDING CURRICULUM AND SUPPLIES IN THE CLASSROOM, PARTNERING WITH LOCAL LIBRARIES ON SUMMER READING PROGRAMS, PROVIDING UNDERSERVED CHILDREN WITH BASIC SCHOOL SUPPLIES TO HELP THEM SUCCEED IN THE CLASSROOM, AND EQUIPPING SCHOOL COMMUNITIES WITH TOOLS TO COMBAT BULLYING AND COME TOGETHER AS A TEAM. ADDITIONALLY, PIRATES CHARITIES HONORS OUTSTANDING EDUCATORS THROUGH THE ALL STAR TEACHER PROGRAM WHICH RECOGNIZES TEACHERS WHO ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE AND PROVIDES GRANT FUNDING TO HELP THOSE TEACHERS CONTINUE THEIR OUTSTANDING WORK IN THE CLASSROOM.
YOUTH HEALTH. PIRATES CHARITIES FUNDS A NUMBER OF INITIATIVES THAT SUPPORT YOUTH HEALTH AND CONTRIBUTE TO BUILDING A HEALTHY COMMUNITY IN THE GREATER PITTSBURGH REGION. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH OTHER NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS, PIRATES CHARITIES COMBATS FOOD INSECURITY, PROVIDES HOPE TO FAMILIES DEALING WITH HEALTH CHALLENGES, EXPANDS ACCESS TO HEALTH SCREENINGS IN UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES, AND PROVIDES MEANINGFUL EXPERIENCES FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IMPACTED BY SIGNIFICANT HEALTH ISSUES.
