Organizations Filed Purposes:
THE MISSION OF THE RIVER CITY BRASS IS TO PROPAGATE AND PERPETUATE MUSICAL CULTURE, PRIMARILY AMERICAN MUSICAL CULTURE, ACROSS A BROAD SPECTRUM OF THE PUBLIC THROUGH THE PRESENTATION OF BRASS BAND PERFORMANCES, EDUCATION PROGRAMS AND THE PRODUCTION OF RECORDINGS. THE RIVER CITY BRASS HAS AS ITS CENTRAL OBLIGATION SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA.
THE MISSION OF RIVER CITY BRASS IS TO ENTERTAIN, ENGAGE AND EDUCATE AUDIENCES OF ALL AGES BY SHARING AMERICAN MUSICAL CULTURE IN THE PITTSBURGH REGION, NATIONALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY.
THE CENTERPIECE OF RIVER CITY BRASS'S PROGRAMMING IS AN ANNUAL CONCERT SERIES. THIS SERIES HAS SEVEN CONCERTS, EACH OF WHICH IS PERFORMED IN FIVE DIFFERENT VENUES ACROSS THE REGION. THESE 35 PERFORMANCES ARE ACCESSIBLE, AFFORDABLE AND WELCOMING AND, LAST SEASON, WERE ATTENDED BY OVER 19,000 INDIVIDUALS. BECAUSE OF COVID 19, THERE WERE 24 PERFORMANCES IN FIVE DIFFERENT VENUES THIS SEASON. THROUGHOUT THE SERIES, THE BAND PLAYS A VARIED REPERTOIRE OF MUSIC INCLUDING BROADWAY HITS, CELTIC, BLUE GRASS, JAZZ AND ROCK N' ROLL AS WELL AS CLASSICAL BAND TUNES.
THE BAND HAS A LONG HISTORY OF TOURING PERFORMANCES EACH YEAR IN PENNSYLVANIA, ACROSS THE NATION AND OVERSEAS. IN THE LAST SEASON THERE WERE 28 SUCH CONCERTS ATTENDED BY 20,750 PEOPLE.
PART OF RIVER CITY BRASS'S MISSION TO EDUCATE INCLUDES A SCHOOL OF BRASS THAT SERVES MINIKIDS IN GRADES K-3, AND A JUNIOR BRASS BAND FOR STUDENTS IN GRADES 4-7. THESE PROGRAMS ARE HELD IN THE PENN HILLS SCHOOL DISTRICT'S HIGH SCHOOL AND PROVIDED TO STUDENTS FROM THAT DISTRICT FREE OF CHARGE THROUGH GRANT FUNDING. THE MINIKIDS AND JUNIOR BRASS BAND INITIATIVES ENROLLED 48 STUDENTS LAST SEASON. A RIVER CITY YOUTH BRASS BAND HAS ALSO BEEN IN OPERATION SINCE 1987 FOR 7TH THROUGH 12TH GRADE STUDENTS. SINCE ITS INCEPTION, OVER 4,800 STUDENTS HAVE BEEN EDUCATED THROUGH THIS PROGRAM. LAST SEASON THE RIVER CITY BRASS BAND ENROLLED 49 STUDENTS AND WAS HELD AT THE AVONWORTH HIGH SCHOOL. RIVER CITY BRASS PROFESSIONAL PERFORMERS ARE THE MUSIC INSTRUCTORS FOR THESE EXTRACURRICULAR EDUCATION PROGRAMS.
