Organizations Filed Purposes: TO PROVIDE HOUSING ASSISTANCE TO VETERANS, OPERATE A SERVICE CENTER FOR VETERANS, AND OFFER EMPLOYMENT SERVICES TO HOMELESS VETERANS.

THE TRADITIONAL GRANT PER DIEM PROGRAM MODULE (VA FUNDED GRANT) THAT VETERANS PLACE HAS OPERATED FOR THE LAST 16 YEARS HAS CATEGORIZED THE 48 BEDS INTO 3 PROGRAMS, SITH PROGRAM, BRIDGE HOUSING, AND LOW DEMAND HOUSING. THE MULTIPLE TRANSITIONAL HOUSING PROGRAMS CAN ACCOMMODATE HOMELESS VETERANS FOR UP TO A 24-MONTH STAY, IN ONE OF THE 13 TOWNHOUSES ON WASHINGTON BOULEVARD. VETERANS IN THE PROGRAM RECEIVE RECOVERY SUPPORT, CASE MANAGEMENT, CLOTHING, ACCESS TO AN ON-SITE FOOD PANTRY, FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT, EMPLOYMENT, AND EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE, ALL OF WHICH ARE DESIGNED TO BUILD THEIR SELF-SUFFICIENCY AND INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS, WITH THE CENTRAL GOAL OF ACHIEVING PERMANENT HOUSING. THE CURRENT TH PROGRAM MAINTAINS OVER A 94% FILL RATE ON AVERAGE. VETERANS PLACE IS THE ONLY LOCAL VETERAN GPD TH PROGRAM THAT SERVES WOMEN AND AS SUCH, THE NUMBER OF BEDS AVAILABLE FOR FEMALE VETERANS ARE FLUID BASED ON DEMAND.

VETERANS PLACE RESOURCE CENTER IS ONE OF FIFTEEN IN THE NATION. VETERANS ARE TRANSPORTED FROM SHELTERS ACROSS THE PITTSBURGH REGION TO THE VETERANS PLACE FACILITY ON WASHINGTON BOULEVARD WHERE THEY ARE PROVIDED MEALS, CLOTHING, CASE MANAGEMENT, HEALTH-RELATED REFERRALS, EMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE, AND OTHER SERVICES DESIGNED TO ADDRESS THE ROOT ISSUES THAT CAUSE HOMELESSNESS, INCLUDING CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY AND MENTAL ILLNESS. BY LEVERAGING IN-HOUSE SERVICES WITH A VARIETY OF COMMUNITY PARTNERS, THE SERVICE CENTER OPERATES AS THE FRONT LINE FOR HOMELESS VETS AND A GATEWAY TO OTHER PROGRAMS AND SERVICES IN THE REGION. THE VETERANS RESOURCE CENTER SERVES AN AVERAGE OF 16 VETS A DAY.IN 2019, VETERANS PLACE RECEIVED THE OPIOID RESPONSE GRANT TO OPERATE AN OPIOID SPECIFIC PROGRAM FOR VETERANS STRUGGLING WITH SUBSTANCE ABUSE. THIS PROGRAM CONNECTS VETERANS TO RECOVERY CENTERS AND OFFERS EDUCATION AND SUPPORT TO INDIVIDUALS WITH A CURRENT OR PAST HISTORY OF OPIOID USE. VETERANS PLACE RECEIVED THE GPD CASE MANAGEMENT GRANT THROUGH THE VA TO FILL THE GAP IN SERVICES FOR VETERANS THAT HAVE BEEN RECENTLY HOUSED. THROUGH THIS GRANT, VETERANS PLACE IS ABLE TO PROVIDE FOLLOW-UP CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES. VETERANS PLACE STAFF IS ABLE TO MEET VETERANS IN THE COMMUNITY TO ASSIST THEM WITH REFERRALS AND APPOINTMENTS TO MAINTAIN THE FOUNDATION, WHICH THEY HAVE BUILT FOR A SUSTAINABLE LIFE.

THE HOMELESS VETERANS REINTEGRATION PROGRAM (HVRP) IS AN EMPLOYMENT FOCUSED COMPETITIVE GRANT PROGRAM OF THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR, VETERANS EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING SERVICE (DOL-VETS), AND THE ONLY FEDERAL GRANT TO FOCUS EXCLUSIVELY ON COMPETITIVE EMPLOYMENT FOR HOMELESS VETERANS. VETERANS PLACE HVRP PROGRAM ASSISTS OVER 105 VETERANS A YEAR WITH EMPLOYMENT PLACEMENT, WHILE MAINTAINING A $15.32 HOURLY RATE AVERAGE PER PLACEMENT, IN ALL ACCOMPLISHING AN 85% OVERALL PLACEMENT RATE.OVERALL, VETERANS PLACE SERVES ALMOST 500 VETERANS ANNUALLY AND PROVIDES OVER 5,000 MEALS TO VETERANS IN NEED. VETERANS PLACE IS CONTINUING TO GROW TO ADDRESS THE NEEDS OF THE VETERANS, WHILE MAINTAINING THE QUALITY OF SERVICES PROVIDED.
