PROVIDES QUALITY PROGRAMS AND SERVICES DESIGNED TO SUPPORT AND ENRICH THE COMMUNITY

EARLY EDUCATION - THE EARLY EDUCATION CENTER HELPS CHILDREN AND FAMILIES ACHIEVE KINDERGARTEN READINESS AND SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL WELL-BEING THROUGH AFFORDABLE, HIGH-QUALITY PRESCHOOL EDUCATION. MORE THAN 120 CHILDREN AGES 6 WEEKS TO 6 YEARS OLD ARE ENROLLED IN THE INFANT, TODDLER, PRESCHOOL, EARLY HEAD START AND PRE-K COUNTS CLASSROOMS. PRE-K COUNTS IS A FULL DAY PROGRAM FOR 3 TO 5 YEAR OLD CHILDREN WHO ARE AT-RISK FOR SCHOOL FAILURE. CLASSROOM TEACHERS USE CREATIVE CURRICULUM AND TEACHING STRATEGIES GOLD ASSESSMENT TOOLS TO ENSURE CHILDREN ARE MEETING AGE-APPROPRIATE MILESTONES. CHILDREN ARE ALSO SCREENED USING AGES AND STAGES QUESTIONNAIRE TO DETERMINE ANY EARLY INTERVENTION AND/OR BEHAVIORAL SUPPORT. YW EARLY EDUCATION CENTER IS A KEYSTONE STARS 4 FACILITY. BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT FOR 85 CHILDREN K-6 INCLUDES HOMEWORK HELP AND TUTORING, NUTRITION AND FITNESS ACTIVITES, CREATIVE EXPRESSION, AND STEAM EXPLORATION. AS PRIMARILY AN ACADEMIC-FOCUSED AFTER-SCHOOL CARE, STUDENTS IMPROVE ACADEMIC SKILLS THROUGH HOMEWORK ASSISTANCE, TUTORING TO ENHANCE READING AND MATH SKILLS, AND WORKING THROUGH SCIENCE PROJECTS. THE PROGRAM ESTABLISHES A ROUTINE FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS, PROVIDES TIME AND MATERIALS FOR SILENT, SUSTAINED READING, SUPPORTS POSITIVE LEARNING OUTCOMES, AND DELIVERS A SAFE AND STRUCTURED ENVIORNMENT FOR CHILDREN BETWEEN THE TIME SCHOOL ENDS AND WHEN PARENTS ARE FINISHED WITH THEIR WORK DAY. CAMP ADVENTURES, A FULL-TIME DAY CAMP OFFERED TO CHILDREN AGES 4-12, OFFERS OPPORTUNITIES FOR 100 CHILDREN TO SPEND THEIR SUMMER DAYS EXPLORING, CREATING, AND LEARNING. CAMPERS SPEND TIME OUTDOORS, HIKING AND LEARNING ABOUT THE NATURAL ENVIORNMENT AND THEIR ROLE IN IT, AND ENJOYING BOTH INSTRUCTIONAL AND FREE TIME IN THE POOL. APPROXIMATELY 75% OF FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN IN THE YWCA'S EARLY EDUCATION AND OUT-OF-SCHOOL-TIME PROGRAMS QUALIFY FOR A STATE CHILD CARE SUBSIDY TO SUPPORT INCREASED OPPORTUNITIES FOR FAMILIES TO ACCESS QUALITY EARLY EDUCATION PROGRAMS.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING- THE YWCA'S EDUCATION AND TRAINING CENTER EMPOWERS ADULT LEARNERS TO FIND FREEDOM AND DIGNITY THROUGH EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT. EDUCATION AND JOB TRAINING BUILDS THE FOUNDATION FOR SUCCESS IN THE WORKPLACE. MORE THAN 150 ADULT LEARNERS IN THE TRI-COUNTY AREA FIND WAYS TO STRENGTHEN THEIR EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION AT THE YW EDUCATION AND TRAINING CENTER THROUGH FREE HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY PREPARATION HISET HIGH SCHOOL DIPOLMA TRAINING, ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE, JOB SEARCH ASSISTANCE, AND CREDENTIAL TRAINING. FOR ADULTS WHO HAVE LEFT HIGH SCHOOL, THE PENNSYLVANIA COMMONWEALTH SECONDARY SCHOOL DIPLOMA INCREASES THEIR CHANCES OF EARNING A LIVING WAGE IN ORDER TO SUSTAIN THEMSELVES AND THEIR FAMILIES; THEY WILL ALSO QUALIFY FOR CERTIFICATE AND CREDENTIAL PROGRAMS. ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE CLASSES HELP NEWLY ARRIVED IMMIGRANTS IMPROVE READING, WRITING, SPEAKING AND LISTENING IN ENGLISH, WHICH HELPS THEM OBTAIN JOBS OR CONTINUE THEIR EDUCATION SO THEY MAY WORK IN THEIR CHOSEN PROFESSION IN THE UNITED STATES. STUDENTS ALSO RECEIVE HELP GAINING U.S. CITIZENSHIP. IN 2018-19, THE YW OPENED UP A SECOND EDUCATION AND TRAINING CENTER TO SERVE ADULT LEARNERS IN NORRISTOWN.

HEALTHY PATHWAYS PROJECT IS A MULTI-PRONGED HEALTH AND WELLNESS PROGRAM FOR ADOLESCENT YOUTH AND THEIR FAMILIES. EMPOWERING YOUTH TO CHOOSE WISELY, TO BUILD HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS AND TO FIND THEIR VOICES CREATES A FOUNDATION FOR YOUTH TO SUCCEED IN SCHOOL, IN THEIR FUTURE CAREERS, AND IN RELATIONSHIPS, AND TO THRIVE INTO ADULTHOOD. YW'S HEALTHY PATHWAYS PROJECT (HPP) WORKS WITH MORE THAN 400 YOUTH AND THEIR FAMILIES TO BUILD LIFE SKILLS, EMPOWERING YOUTH TO MAKE THE HEALTHY CHOICES THAT WILL FOLLOW THEM THROUGHOUT THEIR LIVES. WHAT BEGAN AS SIMPLE NUTRITION AND FITNESS EDUCATION FOR GIRLS, HPP HAS GROWN TO INCLUDE CAREER EXPLORATION, YOGA AND MINDFULNESS, LEADERSHIP, AND EMPOWERMENT FOR GIRLS, INTERACTIVE COOKING CLASSES FOR FAMILIES, AND FITNESS AND NUTRITION EDUCATION FOR PRESCHOOL CHILDREN. A VITAL COMPONENT OF YWCA TRI-COUNTY AREA'S MISSION IS THE EMPOWERMENT OF GIRLS. HEALTHY CHOICES FOR GIRLS PROVIDES MENTORING AND LEADERSHIP ACTIVITIES FOR ADOLESCENT GIRLS WHO ARE COMING OF AGE, DISCOVERING THEIR SELF-IDENTITIES, CHALLENGING PARENTS AND TEACHERS AND FORGING NEW RELATIONSHIPS. HEALTHY CHOICES GUIDES GIRLS IN DEVELOPING LEADERSHIP SKILLS, ESTABLISHING HEALTH AND WELLNESS HABITS, AND BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH PEERS AND ADULTS. IN 2018-2019, HEALTHY CHOICES EXPANDED TO SERVE MORE GIRLS IN MORE LOCATIONS AND BROUGHT 100 GIRLS TOGETHER FOR THE ONE-DAY ALL GIRL! LEADERSHIP AND WELLNESS CONVENTION, DESIGNED TO ENRICH AND ENERGIZE GIRLS IN GRADES 4-12 ON TOPICS OF NUTRITION, FITNESS, AND LEADERSHIP. PARTICIPANTS CHOOSE FROM FOUR AGE-APPROPRIATE INTERACTIVE BREAKOUT SESSIONS FACILITATED BY PROFESSIONAL WOMEN. HEALTHY CHOICES FOR GIRLS HAS DEMONSTRATED POSITIVE IMPACE ON GIRLS' LIVES EACH YEAR, HELPING THEM BUILD THE CONFIDENCE, SELF-ESTEEM, AND WELL-BEING TO ACHIEVE IN PEER, FAMILY AND SCHOOL RELATIONSHIPS, IN ACADEMICS, AND IN FUTURE EDUCATIONAL AND CAREER PURSUITS. SUPPORTED BY PRIVATE FOUNDATIONS, YW CHAMPS INTRODUCES FITNESS AND NUTRITION CONCEPTS TO MORE THAN 250 PRESCHOOL CHILDREN AND EXPLORES HEALTHY LIFESTYLES WITH SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES. YW CHAMPS STRIVES TO REDUCE HEALTH RISK FACTORS IN YOUNG CHILDREN BY OFFERING MOVEMENT, STRESS REDUCTION, AND NUTRITION EDUCATION THAT CAN EASILY BE REPLICATED AT HOME, AND BY OFFERING COOKING AND NUTRITION EDUCATION TO FAMILIES, FOCUSING ON MAKING HEALTHY FOOD CHOICES WHILE STAYING ON A TIGHT BUDGET. FUN FOOD FRIDAYS SHOW BOYS AND GIRLS THE VARIETY OF HEALTHY FOODS AND SNACKS AVAILABLE TO THEM.
