Organizations Filed Purposes: THE MISSION OF THE BERKS ARTS COUNCIL IS TO INSPIRE, ENGAGE AND UNITE OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH ARTS EDUCATION, COLLABORATION, AND PRESENTATION.

TO CULTIVATE, SUPPORT AND PROMOTE THE ARTS IN OUR COMMUNITY

BERKS JAZZ FEST IS A SERIES OF JAZZ CONCERTS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTY, INCLUDING SOME WITH NO ADMISSION CHARGE. IT PROVIDES A FORUM FOR THIS ART FORM AND DRAWS PEOPLE FROM OUTSIDE BERKS COUNTY TO EXPERIENCE WHAT BERKS HAS TO OFFER. THIS PROGRAM RECEIVED $63,650 IN DONATED SERVICES. BERKS JAZZ FEST WAS SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 27-APRIL 5, 2020 BUT WAS POSTPONED DUE TO COVID-19.

BANDSHELL CONCERTS - FREE OUTDOOR CONCERTS PERFORMED ON FRIDAY EVENINGS WHICH SHOWCASE A GREAT VARIETY OF MUSIC FORMS. AN INFORMAL PARK SETTING MAKES IT POSSIBLE FOR ANYONE WHO SO DESIRES TO ATTEND. THIS PROGRAM RECEIVED $725 IN DONATED SERVICES. FOUR OUTDOOR SUMMER CONCERTS WERE HELD ON JULY 12, JULY 19, JULY 26 AND AUGUST 2ND. EACH CONCERT FEATURED A LOCAL ORGANIZATION MUSIC FEATURE FOLLOWED BY A NATIONAL/REGIONAL ARTIST. CONCERTS ARE FREE TO THE COMMUNITY. THE TOTAL APPROXIMATE ATTENDANCE FOR THE FOUR CONCERTS WAS 6,000.

OTHER PROGRAMS - VARIOUS WORKSHOPS AND PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO PROMOTE THE ARTS AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES IN BERKS COUNTY. THESE PROGRAMS RECEIVED DONATED SERVICES OF $30,900. EVENTS INCLUDED SPECIAL CONCERTS AND EXIBITIONS HELD THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AND FOR THE HOLIDAY. PPA REGRANTS - PROJECT STREAM AND PROGRAM STREAM GRANTS THAT ARE REGRANTED TO OTHER ORGANIZATIONS THROUGH THE PA PARTNERS IN THE ARTS RE-GRANT PROGRAM. GRANTS AWARDED WERE 23 PROJECT STREAM GRANTS TOTALING $41,556 AND 36 PROGRAM STREAM GRANTS TOTALING $109,382.SEE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON SCH O.FAST LANE ARTS - A JURIED ART COMPETITION FOR LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. IN FEBRUARY 2020, THE SHOW FEATURED 1,103 STUDENTS PARTICIPATING WITH 1,731 PIECES SUBMITTED. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE BCIU, BERKS ARTS JURORS AND COMMITTEE SELECTED 30 PIECES TO BE FEATURED IN A SPECIAL EXHIBIT AND PUBLIC ART DISPLAYS. WITH COVID-19, THE EXHIBIT WAS MOVED VIRTUALLY, AND THE PUBLIC ART WAS INSTALLED ON STREETLIGHT BANNERS AND WINDOW ART THROUGHOUT THE CITY OF READING AND WEST READING. THE PUBLIC ART DISPLAY WILL BE FEATURED FOR 6 MONTHS THROUGHOUT EACH COMMUNITY PROVIDED THE STUDENTS MORE EXPOSURE. THE VIRTUAL EXHIBIT HAD 1,830 ENGAGEMENTS VIA FACEBOOK.ART OF JAZZ: A JURIED ART COMPETITION FEATURING THE THEME OF "CELEBRATE JAZZ" WAS ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED TO BE HELD IN MARCH 2020. THE EXHIBITION WAS LATER HELD IN AUGUST 2020, VIRTUALLY, AT THE GOGGLEWORKS CENTER FOR THE ARTS. FORTY-FOUR ENTRIES WERE SUBMITTED WITH 34 BEING FEATURED IN THE EXHIBIT. THE VIRTUAL EXHIBIT WAS SEEN OVER 1,000 FOLLOWERS ON SOCIAL MEDIA. THE IN-PERSON EXHIBIT VISITS WERE COORDINATED BY RESERVATION ONLY BY THE GOGGLEWORKS CENTER FOR THE ARTS IN COOPERATION OF THE COVID-19 REGULATIONS.PUBLIC ART INSTALLATIONS: IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE GREATER READING CHAMBER ALLIANCE, READING DOWNTOWN IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT, READING PARKING AUTHORITY, AND SOUTH CENTRAL TRANSIT AUTHORITY, BERKS ARTS CREATED SEVERAL OUTDOOR ART GALLERIES FEATURING LOCAL ARTISTS. OUTDOOR GALLERIES FEATURED THE THEME OF HOPE, HEALING, AND COMMUNITY UNITY. THIS PROJECT WAS THE IMPETUS FOR A COMMUNITY ART WALK AND MAPPING PROGRAM TO FEATURE A VARIETY OF PUBLIC ART, SCULPTURE, AND ARCHITECTURE THROUGHOUT THE CITY OF READING. THERE WERE APPROXIMATLEY 80 ARTISTS INVOLVED IN PROJECT.HOLIDAY CONCERT: A PETER WHITE CHRISTMAS SHOW WAS HOSTED ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2019, AT THE MILLER CENTER FOR THE ARTS, READING PA. TWO PERFORMANCES HOSTED 3:00 PM AND 7:00 PM SHOW. TICKETS SOLD FOR $49 EACH. TOTAL TICKETS SOLD: 739GET JAZZED EDUCATION PROGRAMS: THE TONI LYNNE VOCAL DAY HOSTED FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WAS HELD ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 2020 AT EXETER HIGH SCHOOL. GROUP AND INDIVIDUAL SESSIONS WERE HELD FOCUSING ON SOLO AND STYLE; ADJUDICATION AND REHEARSAL; RHYTHMIC FOUNDATION; AND CHOOSING REPERTOIRE. 50 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED. THE AL SEIFARTH INSTRUMENTAL DAY, DOC MULLIGAN DAY, RMF PROJECT PENSKE, AND IN SCHOOL PROGRAMMING CANCELLED FOR COVID-19.ARTS ROUNDTABLE: A BIMONTHLY PROGRAM FOR LOCAL ARTS ORGANIZATIONS AND ARTISTS TO MEET, SHARE IDEAS, DISCUSS CURRENT TRENDS/PROGRAMS AND FUNDING.
