THE MISSION OF THE BERKS COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION IS TO SUPPORT THE LEGAL PROFESSION BY PROMOTING PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE, ENCOURAGING COLLEGIALITY AND EXERCISING ADVOCACY ON ITS BEHALF. TO SUPPORT THE LEGAL PROFESSION AND PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR THE PUBLIC
PROGRAMS OFFERED TO THE MEMBERS INCLUDE CONTINUING LEGAL EDUCATION AT NO OR REDUCED COST, LAWYER REFERRAL SERVICE, CLIENT DISPUTE RESOLUTION, BENCH-BAR CONFERENCE ALLOWING FOR DIALOGUE BETWEEN BENCH AND BAR, BERKS COUNTY LAW JOURNAL, SOCIAL EVENTS TO ENCOURAGE COLLEGIALITY AND NETWORKING, PRO BONO SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES, PROVIDING PERTINENT INFORMATION TO MEMBERS VIA THE ASSOCIATION'S WEBSITE, E-BRIEFS ELECTRONIC NEWSLETTER, TWITTER, FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM AND BERKS BARRISTER, ADVOCACY WITH PUBLIC OFFICIALS AND WITH THE PUBLIC BY ADVERTISING THE VALUE OF ATTORNEY REPRESENTATION. PROGRAMS FOR THE PUBLIC INCLUDE, "STEPPING OUT" PRESENTATIONS IN HIGH SCHOOLS, HOSTING THE COUNTY MOCK TRIAL COMPETITION, LAW DAY LUNCHEON PROGRAM INCLUDING AN ESSAY CONTEST FOR 5TH AND 6TH GRADERS, AND FEDERAL LAW DAY PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING FOR THE PUBLIC INCLUDES THE BATDORF LECTURE GIVEN AT ALVERNIA UNIVERSITY AND A COURT INTERPRETER TRAINING PROGRAM TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF CERTIFIED AND QUALIFIED INTERPRETERS AVAILABLE TO THE BERKS COUNTY COURT OF COMMON PLEAS AND MAGISTERIAL DISTRICT COURTS. A TASK FORCE OF THE BERKS COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION CONTINUED IN 2019 TO SUPPORT A FORECLOSURE DIVERSION PROGRAM THAT HAS BEEN HELPING BERKS COUNTY HOMEOWNERS. PRO BONO REPRESENTATION IS AVAILABLE FOR THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO QUALIFY. FOR THOSE WHOSE INCOME IS LESS THAN 200% OF FEDERAL POVERTY GUIDELINES, BUT GREATER THAN 125%, MODEST MEANS REPRESENTATION IS AVAILABLE IN SIX AREAS OF LAW.573 ACTIVE MEMBERS WERE SERVED.
