COMMUNITY SUPPORT - THE ASSOCIATIONS COMMUNITY SUPPORT PROGRAMS OFFER HELP TO INDIVIDUALS WITH MENTAL HEALTH/CO-OCCURRING CHALLENGES THAT ENHANCE THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE AND PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR INCREASED PARTICIPATION IN THE COMMUNITY AND LOW-COST ALTERNATIVES THAT HELP INDIVIDUALS AVOID THE MORE RESTRICTIVE, HIGHER-COST SERVICES.THE ASSOCIATIONS COMMUNITY SUPPORT PROGRAMS BENEFIT ADULTS WITH MENTAL HEALTH/CO-OCCURRINGCHALLENGES THAT WOULD LIKE TO:- LEARN MORE ABOUT PEER SUPPORT, PERSONAL MEDICINE, AND SELF-WELLNESS TOOLS- HAVE HELP WITH BUDGETING SSI, SSDI, AND RAILROAD RETIREMENT BENEFITS- HAVE A SAFE AND SUPPORTIVE PLACE FOR RECREATION, EDUCATION, VOLUNTEER AND PEER SUPPORT OPPORTUNITIES.- ACCESS PEER SUPPORT BY MEANS OF A TELEPHONE SERVICE, THE WARMLINE, WHICH OFFERS EMPATHETIC, UNDERSTANDING, RESPECTFUL, AND SUPPORTIVE CONVERSATION, ALONG WITH INFORMATION AND REFERRALS.- IMPART HOPE TO OTHERS WHO ARE LIVING WITH MENTAL HEALTH CHALLENGES BY SHARING PERSONAL RECOVERY STORIES.
ADVOCACY - AT ITS INCEPTION, THE ASSOCIATIONS INITIAL FOCUS WAS MENTAL HEALTH ADVOCACY AND FOR THE LAST 65 YEARS, THEIR ADVOCACY EFFORTS CONTINUED TO BE DEVELOPED TO RAISE AWARENESS OF THE RIGHTS OF INDIVIDUALS WITH MENTAL HEALTH/CO-OCCURRING CHALLENGES AND TO REDUCE THE EFFECTS OF DISCRIMINATION AND STIGMA.THE ASSOCIATIONS ADVOCACY PROGRAMS BENEFIT:- ADULTS WITH MENTAL HEALTH/CO-OCCURRING CHALLENGES AND THEIR FAMILIES THAT HAVE QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS ABOUT BEHAVIORAL HEALTH TREATMENT, PATIENT RIGHTS, HOUSING ISSUES, SECURING ENTITLEMENTS, WELFARE BENEFITS, EMPLOYMENT ISSUES, OR OTHER COMMUNITY SUPPORT SYSTEMS.- FAMILIES IN NEED OF INFORMATION ABOUT THE INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES EDUCATION ACT (IDEA), HELP WITH FINDING RESOURCES, AND/OR SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS AND CONCERNS.- INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES THAT NEED SUPPORT WHEN FILING BEHAVIORAL HEALTH COMPLAINTS AND GRIEVANCES.- BEAVER COUNTY SYSTEM OF CARE BY REPORTING AREAS OF SATISFACTION AND CONCERNS.
