Organizations Filed Purposes:
PROVIDING INFORMATION AND REFERRAL SERVICES FOR FAMILIES OF AUTISTIC CHILDREN, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO SERVICE PROVIDERS WORKING WITH AUTISTIC CHILDREN, PROMOTION OF APPLIED RESEARCH, AND ASSISTANCE IN PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT FOR AUTISTIC PENNSYLVANIANS.
THE MISSION IS: PROVIDING INFORMATION AND REFERRAL SERVICES FOR FAMILIES OF AUTISTIC CHILDREN, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO SERVICE PROVIDERS WORKING WITH AUTISTIC CHILDREN, PROMOTION OF APPLIED RESEARCH AND ASSISTANCE IN PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT FOR AUTISTIC PENNSYLVANIANS. PRIOR TO 2012, THE ORGANIZATION WAS A CHAPTER OF THE AUTISM SOCIETY OF AMERICA, COVERED UNDER A GROUP EXEMPTION. IN 2012 THE ORGANIZATION APPLIED FOR AND RECEIVED SEPARATE RECOGNITION OF EXEMPTION FROM INCOME TAX UNDER SECTION 501(C)(3) OF THE INTERNAL REVENUE CODE.
THE OVERALL GOAL IS RUNNING AN ANNUAL SUMMER CAMP TO FULFILL A REGULATORY REQUIRMENT FOR AN EXTENDED SCHOOL YEAR FOR CHILDREN WITH AUTISM. SERVING AN AVERAGE OF 60-90 AUTISTIC STUDENTS PER YEAR SINCE 1974, OUR EFFORT FOCUSES ON IMPROVING AND EXPANDING THE SUMMER CAMP'S PROGRAM FOR EDUCATION, RECREATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF COMMUNITY SOCIAL SKILLS.
THE OVERALL GOAL HERE IS MULTI-FACETED IN THAT IT REQUIRES ONGOING ATTENTION TO BUILDING AWARENESS OF THE NEEDS AND POTENTIAL OF THOSE WITH AUTISM IN ORDER TO INCREASE THEIR ACCEPTANCE AT VARIOUS LEVELS OF SOCIAL AND COMMUNITY LIVING THEIR DIVERSE FUNCTIONING LEVELS MAY ENABLE. TO THIS END, OUR EFFORTS INCLUDE PRESENTATIONS TO PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SCHOOL STUDENTS AND STAFF; INSTRUCTING PARENTS ON HOW TO ACCESS AND BEST UTILIZE EXISTING CARE, TREATMENT, AND ADULT TRANSITIONAL RESOURCES; TRAINING STAFF, PARENTS AND THOSE WITH AUTISM FOR TRAVEL, AND UTILIZATION OF TRANSPORTATION; COLLABORATIVE TUTORING OF AUTISTIC STUDENTS WITH S.T.E.M. SKILLS.
PROMOTING AND ACCESSING WORKSHOPS AND GUIDELINES AND APPROACHES FOR CAREGIVERS, TEACHERS AND TREATING PROFESSIONALS IN INCREASING SOCIAL AND VOCATIONAL COPEABILITY SKILLS; ONGOING EDUCATION OF GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS AND POLICYMAKERS ON NEEDS AND REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS OF THOSE WITH AUTISM; AND FINALLY, FOSTERING ESTABLISHMENT OF A FULL CONTINUUM OF APPROPRIATE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES.
