RESIDENTIAL: THE SHADOWFAX CORPORATION'S RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM TEACHES INDIVIDUALS ABOUT LIVING INDEPENDENTLY IN THE COMMUNITY. EVERYTHING YOU DO IN YOUR OWN HOME IS WHAT OUR STAFF ARE TEACHING THE 76 INDIVIDUALS THAT RESIDE IN ONE OF OUR 26 COMMUNITY LIVING ARRAGEMENTS TO DO. OUR TRAINED STAFF MEMBERS TAKE AN ACTIVE AND SUPPORTIVE ROLE IN THE LIVES OF THE RESIDENTS OF THE HOME. THE INDIVIDUALS LIVING IN THE HOMES RECEIVE ASSISTANCE WITH LEARNING SKILLS, INCREASING CAPABILITIES, AND ACHIEVING GOALS THAT LEAD TOWARD A MORE PRODUCTIVE LIFE. THESE SKILLS INCLUDE PERSONAL HYGIENE CARE, MEAL PREPARATION, HOME MAINTENANCE, BANKING, SAFETY ISSUES AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT. OUR GOAL IS TO HAVE THE INDIVIDUALS LIVE AS INDEPENDENTLY AS POSSIBLE, BUILD FRIENDSHIPS, BECOME PART OF THEIR COMMUNITY, PURSUE THEIR DREAMS AND CHOOSE HOW TO SPEND THEIR TIME. WE ALL HAVE A SENSE OF BELONGING IN OUR COMMUNITY AND THAT IS WHAT WE ARE TEACHING THE INDIVIDUALS - HOW TO MANAGE LIVING IN THEIR OWN HOME AND WITHIN THE COMMUNITY.

DAY SUPPORT SERVICES: THE DAY PROGRAM CLOSED DUE TO COVID-19 IN MARCH 2020, HOPEFULLY IT WILL OPEN AGAIN SOON.EMPLOYMENT SUPPORTS - EMPLOYMENT SPECIALISTS HELP WITH EVERY ASPECT OF DISCOVERY, JOB FINDING AND JOB SUPPORT, SO THAT EACH PERSON FINDS A JOB THAT THEY DESIRE AND CAN SUCCEED IN. EACH PERSON'S INTERESTS, JOB PREFERENCES AND SKILLS ARE EXPLORED AND ASSESSED. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES MAY BE USED TOWARD FUTURE JOB SKILL DEVELOPMENT IN ADDITION TO EXPANDING THE PERSON'S AWARENESS OF JOBS RELATED TO THE VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE. COMMUNITY OUTINGS MAY BE USED TO HELP EACH PERSON TO IDENTIFY AND EXPRESS THEIR INTERESTS. EMPLOYMENT SPECIALISTS MAY SPEND TIME IN SOMEONE'S HOME SETTING, WITH FAMILY OR STAFF, TO COME TO UNDERSTAND EACH PERSON'S ABILITIES, DESIRES AND NEEDS THROUGH THE EYES OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS. WE WORK WITH PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYERS TO BEST UNDERSTAND THEIR PROCESSES AND PROCEDURES, AND WAYS IN WHICH EACH PERSON MIGHT ADD VALUE THROUGH A UNIQUE ENGAGEMENT WITH THAT BUSINESS. AFTER BEING HIRED, EMPLOYMENT SPECIALISTS GUIDE AND SUPPORT EACH PERSON INTO SUCCESSFUL AND SUSTAINABLE EMPLOYMENT. THEY ENSURE OPTIMAL TEACHING AND TRAINING OF NEW JOB SKILLS NEEDED AND GUARANTEE THAT THERE IS GOOD COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE EMPLOYER AND THE EMPLOYEE. EVERY PERSON WILL CONTINUE TO BE SUPPORTED UNTIL THEY ARE WORKING AS INDEPENDENTLY AS POSSIBLE AND BOTH EMPLOYER AND EMPLOYEE ARE SATISFIED WITH THE WORKING RELATIONSHIP. WE ARE PROUD OF OUR ROLE IN HELPING PEOPLE FIND THEIR COMMUNITY, THROUGH EMPLOYMENT, IN THE YORK AREA. THERE ARE CURRENTLY 3 PEOPLE BEING SUPPORTED IN JOBS IN THE YORK COMMUNITY. EMPLOYMENT SPECIALISTS ARE WORKING WITH SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE IN THE DISCOVERY PROCESS. PREVOCATIONAL TRAINING - WE OFFER PREVOCATIONAL TRAINING SUPPORT FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT A COMBINATION OF COMMUNITY AND FACILITY BASED SERVICES AT THIS TIME. THE SHOPS PROVIDE WORK EXPERIENCE IN AN INDUSTRIAL SETTING THAT BUSTLES WITH WORK. SHADOWFAX PARTNERS WITH OVER 20 AREA BUSINESSES AND SPECIALIZE IN HAND PACKAGING AND ASSEMBLY OPERATIONS. THE PROGRAM ENCOURAGES THE DEVELOPMENT OF INDUSTRY COMPATIBLE ATTITUDES/BEHAVIOR, QUALITY CONTROL, PRODUCTIVITY AND WORK TOLERANCE CONSISTENT WITH EACH PERSON'S INTERESTS AND ABILITIES. WORKERS RECEIVE PAY FOR EACH PIECE OF WORK THAT THEY PRODUCE. STAFF ENCOURAGES EACH PERSON TO THINK ABOUT WHAT THEY WANT THEIR FUTURE TO LOOK LIKE. THEY TALK ABOUT A WIDE VARIETY OF VOLUNTEERING AND EMPLOYMENT OPTIONS. WE UTILIZE YOUTUBE, VIDEOS, AND TOURS TO EXPOSE PEOPLE TO JOB POSSIBILITIES. DISCUSSIONS ARE HELD ABOUT WHAT IT MEANS TO GET A JOB AND KEEP IT. PEOPLE LEARN ABOUT WORKPLACE RULES, WHAT TO WEAR, AND HOW TO ACT. THEY ROLE PLAY SCENARIOS THAT THEY MAY ENCOUNTER ON THE JOB AND LEARN HOW TO HANDLE POTENTIALLY DIFFICULT OR AWKWARD SITUATIONS. WE PROMOTE JOBS THAT ARE AVAILABLE IN OUR COMMUNITY AND ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO THINK ABOUT THE TYPE OF WORK THAT THEY WOULD ENJOY. OUR EMPLOYMENT SPECIALISTS MEET WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE READY TO TALK ABOUT GETTING A JOB. THERE ARE APPROXIMATELY 115 PEOPLE IN THIS PROGRAM.COMMUNITY SUPPORTS - BEING A VALUED, ENGAGED MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY IS MUCH MORE THAN MERELY BEING PRESENT IN THE COMMUNITY. IT IS DEVELOPING FRIENDSHIPS, PURSUING DREAMS, SHARING INTERESTS AND GIVING BACK. COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION SUPPORTS IS A VITAL COMPONENT OF THE SERVICES WE OFFER. WE BELIEVE ALL PEOPLE DESERVE THE SAME OPPORTUNITIES AND ARE ENTITLED TO THE SAME RESOURCES. STAFF ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO PARTICIPATE IN VARIOUS VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES, EXPLORING NEW INTERESTS, DEVELOPING MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIPS AND INCREASING SKILLS IN EVERY AREA OF THEIR LIVES. VOLUNTEER SITES INCLUDE: SOCIALIZING AND PLAYING GAMES WITH RESIDENTS AT NURSING HOMES AND HELPING OUT IN THE DINING AREAS; STOCKING SHELVES AND HELPING NEEDY RESIDENTS OF YORK CITY AT VARIOUS FOOD BANKS AND LOCAL CHARITIES; DELIVERING FOOD FOR THE MEALS ON WHEELS PROGRAMS, VISITING HORSES AT A HORSE FARM; VARIOUS CLEAN UP AND ORGANIZATION AT THERAPEUTIC STABLES; HELPING WITH PLANTING, WATERING, WEEDING, HARVESTING, WEIGHING AND MEASURING, CLEANING AND DISTRIBUTING PRODUCE TO NEEDY FAMILIES IN YORK THROUGH COMMUNITY GARDENS. THEY ARE MATCHED WITH VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES BASED ON THEIR INTERESTS. PEOPLE ARE CONNECTING WITH FRIENDS AT COFFEE SHOPS, COMIC BOOK-STORES, MARINAS, DOG PARKS, SMALL AIRPORTS ETC. THEY ARE MATCHED WITH VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES BASED ON THEIR INTEREST. STAFF EXPLORE NEW INTERESTS WITH PEOPLE BY GIVING THEM THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRY NEW THINGS. THIS INCLUDES EXERCISE CLASSES, VISITING THE LIBRARY, LEARNING ABOUT ANIMALS AND PROPER CARE OF ANIMALS, COMIC BOOK STORES, RECORD CLUBS, SOCIAL ORGANIZATIONS AND MANY MORE. DURING THIS PROCESS, STAFF PAY VERY CLOSE ATTENTION TO FACIAL EXPRESSIONS, AND MANNERISMS TO DETERMINE IF THIS OPPORTUNITY BRINGS ENJOYMENT. AFTER EXPLORING THESE OPPORTUNITIES, PEOPLE BEGIN TO REGULARLY GO TO THEIR PLACES OF INTEREST. INDIVIDUAL PLANS ARE DEVELOPED BASED ON THE NEEDS AND DESIRES OF EACH PERSON. WHETHER IT BE SPA DAY, COOKING CLASSES, IMPROVING FITNESS AND MOBILITY, PLAYING GAMES, OR RELAXING, OUR STAFF ARE COMMITTED TO ENSURING THE PEOPLE WE SUPPORT HAVE A FUN AND FULFILLING DAY. SOME PEOPLE ENJOY SENSORY EXPERIENCES, WHILE OTHERS BENEFIT FROM ENHANCED SOCIALIZATION AND COMMUNICATION EXPERIENCES. PEOPLE ENJOY THESE ACTIVITIES, AND MORE, IN A COMFORTABLE, FRIENDLY, AND STIMULATING ENVIRONMENT. DAILY LIVING NEEDS FOR EACH PERSON ARE MET BY OUR DEDICATED STAFF. CARING AND SUPPORTIVE STAFF ARE WELL TRAINED IN MEETING THE NEEDS OF THOSE THEY SUPPORT FROM PERSONAL CARE TO MEANINGFUL ACTIVITIES TO COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION. WE ARE ABLE AND EQUIPPED TO PROVIDE EXTENSIVE SUPPORT TO PEOPLE WITH MORE COMPLEX NEEDS. WE ALSO PROVIDE PROGRAMS FOR SENIORS WHO WANT A MORE RELAXED AND LESS STRUCTURED ATMOSPHERE. ACTIVITIES ARE SIMILAR TO WHAT WE OFFER IN OUR OTHER PROGRAMS. WHETHER IT'S TAKING A LEISURELY WALK IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD, RECLINING AND WATCHING A WESTERN ON TV, OR DOING CRAFTS, PEOPLE CHOOSE THEIR ACTIVITIES THROUGHOUT THE DAY. SOME SENIORS ARE LOVING LIFE AT SENIOR CENTERS ON A PART TIME BASIS. THERE ARE APPROXIMATELY 72 PEOPLE IN THIS PROGRAM.
